  1. Is that the batting order? Please...no. I dont know, didnt billy Martin used to draw names out of a hat to make his lineups too? It worked pretty well for him.
  2. I'd like to see this, I think: Soriano Lee Bradley Ramirez Soto Fontenot Fuku/Johnson Theriot Id like to see: Soriano Theriot Ramirez Soto Bradley Lee DeRosa Fukudome/Johnson The fact is, between Furcal, Roberts, and Peavy, I will never believe another done deal until the involved player is at the press conference wearing his Cubs hat holding up his Cubs jersey.
  3. I dont know, with a deal this big, between rotoworld and mlbtraderumors, had they heard a rumor from Jim Hendreys nephews, best friends, mothers, boyfriends, dentists, bookies, cousins, dog sitter, it would have been posted instantly, and neither of those 2 sites mention anything about Peavy.
  4. At the winter meetings, it seemed like it would be a huge offseason with deals going on everywhere, and now, nadda.
  5. I don't see Vizcaino with the Cubs for 2009. I think the Cubs flip Vizcaino to another team for a average prospect. Hard to tell. the guaranteed pen spots will go to Marmol, Gregg, Gaudin, Wuertz and Cotts. Guzman will too if healthy. Marshall is likely in the rotaion if things remain as is. However, the question mark is Samardzjia. Will the have him start the seaso in the pen, or perhaps keep him loose as a starter in Iowa as a backup for Harden.
  6. My question is what will the salary swap look like? The Rockies arent the type of team that would make that kind of trade and take on half of Marquis salary plus Vizcainos as well. If they were to do that, and free up enough to get Bradley, more power to JH, but if its just to get an unhappy Marquis out of town, its not worth it.
  7. Has anyone else moticed ther lack of Milton Bradley talk in general since the reports that The Cubs cant do anythign until ther sale? Could it be that since they are each other first choice, they have a deal with him to wait until mid January whennthe sale is projected, and if they cant make it happen, he should look elsewhere? Its not like i he waits until mid January he wont be able to find work.
  8. I know hes lost a step or 2, but surely I thought hed warrant a major league deal from someone. Granted, hid defensive skills leave much to be desired, but hes better offensively than a lot of catchers out there.
  9. http://www.heroestvshow.com/wp-content/uploads/Image/MasiOka.jpg Maybe he could take us back in time to before this thread got out of hand.
  10. What good? Do his HR's not count if they're hit with nobody on base? They certainly count for more runs with guys on base. Maybe Soriano isnt the problem. He gets on base plenty, and Theriot is usually good at gettign on as well, as long as he doesnt commit some boneheaded base running blunder. Its their job to get on base, and the number 3 and 4 guys should drive them in. The problem comes when that number 3 hitter rolls the ball directly into the short stops glove with dead aim. Lee is just not a number 3 type. Hes always been an .800something OPSer, and then he had that ridiculous 2005, which made everyone believe he was going to do that again. Hasnt happened, wont happen, and we should accept him as a .280/.370/.475 type of player, which isnt bad by any stretch, but not quite a number 3 hitter. If we could get a number 3 guy, Soriano would be just fine at leadoff. Aramis would be a great #3 guy, but Lou never saw it that way. This is why, with Soriano, Theriot, Ramirez, and Soto as the 1-4, we could use a nice number 5 guy, and put Lee 6th.
  11. It may be boring from a hot stove perspective, but when you win 97 games to pace the NL, it's best not to dramatically overhaul your lineup. This team had the talent to win it all last year, they just choked in the playoffs. Nobodys looking for a dramatic overhaul. Just that one bat to place somewhere in the middle of the lineup. I do agree that this team does have what it takes to go all the way as is, but the guys that have been discussed, Abreu, Bradley, Nady, Hermida etc. are not the kind of players that would re shape the team, more so the kind of guys that can hopefully be that final piece to bring the puzzle together.
  12. Seriously, a lefty RF would be nice, but does anyone out there truely believe that if it came down to it, this team couldnt do it as is? I refuse to believe that Fukudome cant make a simple adjustment, namely not swining at every freaking pitch he sees. Between Johnson, Pie, and Gathright, we have a CF, not to mention a number 8 hitter that a lot of managers would kill for. We've got the power. We've got the speed. To be the best in the national league.
  13. they are the opposite of the cubs. instead of flaws being exposed in the postseason, they have special abilities that don't show up until the playoffs. that's just straight up awesome GMing from coletti And what happened to said abilites the next round vs. the Phils? The fact is, 2 years in a row, the Cubs not only got swept, but flat out embarassed by teams that were pound for pound inferior, and were quickly disposed of themselves the next round by teams that werent much better in both cases. Theres something about this team that when the time comes, they just arent ready for playoff baseball.
  14. is Theriot Lee Ramirez Soto Soriano Early Season Fukudome DeRosa Johnson/Pie/Gathright too much to ask for?
  15. I read that to. If it's true, lets hope that Dempster ends up being worth it.
  16. If due to the sale of the team, we were unable to sign someone, I wouldnt be opposed to trading for Nady, depending on what the Yankees want. I know hes a righty, but still, hed be a nice addition.
  17. I dont know about the rest of you, but what Im getting from a lot of non Cubs fans, including Brewers and White Sox fans(I dont know any Cards fans) is that while they do enjoy our misery, part of them is just sick of hearing about it, and Cubs fans wearing the 100 year thing on thier sleeves like some kind of badge of honor and wish that they would just win the damn series and be done with it. Besides, it's not like we lost anything of substance this off season, aside from Wood, and maybe Edmonds. We have the same team that dominated the NL for the majority of the season aside from a few dry spells in July and early September. Lou still has a damn fine team to work with here, and maybe he wont get a new toy and will have to work with what he has, and the first step could be to work Soriano into the middle of the lineup and get someone else at leadoff.
  18. So theyd be like Shingo. Someone for Kosuke to hang out with during spring training and then never be seen or heard from again.
  19. If they really want to be a threat, they're going to need tpo add more than Edger Renteria to their offense. Prince Fielder would be a nice fit, and they could probably pry him away from the Brewers for Cain or Sanchez.
  20. Hes all yours. enjoy.
  21. It seems that every year since the A Rod aquisition, the Yankees make that move or moves that make the baseball world think wow, now they'll be unbeatable, and every year, they end up being quite beatable, so we'll see what happens.
  22. Just about as necessary as this comment. Pretty poor comparison I'd say. I'm not a Jim Hendry fan but I don't understand why we have to give him crap for signing a bench player. I really don't care if you like Jim, or think its a good signing. Its the fact that your bringing it up in a thread about Garrett Anderson that makes it completely unnecessary. So that, in fact, does make it a solid comparison. You're right. I guess I should have posted it in the "Discuss Westside Rooter's avatar and sig here" thread. My fault. I don't know what I was thinking anyways... ruining a groundbreaking thread arguing whether or not Garrett Anderson sucks really bad or just sucks pretty bad. I really dont know why Im even answering to this, but I have nothing better to do. To be honest, I dont really have anything against Gathright, its just the fact the he represents the fact that we're giving up on Pie prematurely.
