  1. Im not sure if that was so much a nice escape job by Bush, or yet another choke job by the "heart of our lineup".
  2. Now hopefully the offense can stop playing like its October.
  3. Now theres the guy we spent 42 million dollars on. Hopefully he sticks around the whole season this time.
  4. I do agree with moving Lee, but I wouldnt consider Bradleys 1-11 tearing the cover off the ball. He's probably the most impressive 1-11 hitter I've ever seen. I wont disagree, but Ill be a lot happier when he starts putting the bat one the ball.
  5. Im bettign that the Ms would do what the Marlins did with Josh Becket and Mike Lowell, and knowing that teams will want Bedard, thed try to force Beltre or Washburn on whoever they send Bedard to.
  6. I do agree with moving Lee, but I wouldnt consider Bradleys 1-11 tearing the cover off the ball.
  7. I cant see them tradin him to us, especially considering we really dont have much to offer them. Theyd want at least a number 2 or 3 type starter. However, he would be a nice off season signing, even though Im not one of the Theriot haters.
  8. escobar is definitely ready this season then? They seem to think so. Even if he isnt this year, Hardys on a 1 year deal, and I doubt they'll re sign him next year, so theyd probably lik to get something in return. These guys really need pithing, and they have a god enough lineup that they coul move Hardy and get a decent pitcher in return, certainly better than 4 of their 5 starters. If they were willing to move Fielder and trust Gamel at 1st, they could get something much better, but I dont think they're quite ready to do that.
  9. Im shocked that The White Sox arent even exploring the option of Pierre. Every time I turn on the score, they complia about no leadoff hitter and no center fielder. Pierre could fill those spots. Granted he isnt what he once was, but he can still hit .280-.290 and more importantly steal 50 bases, which is something that team lacks big time. Besides, he must have some relatinship with Ozzie from their Marlins days. He wants out of LA. LA wants him out of LA. Just trade him for Brian Anderson and Mike McDougal and call it a day.
  10. Cubs are going to dominate this one as sure as JJ Hardy is going to be traded mid season.
  11. Say what you will, but he called Hawk out on his BS tonight. Sox pitcher made a blatent balk, and wa called and Hawk did his usual grumbling about it, and Stone totally called him out on it, and all Hawk could say was well I thought he stepped toward first and not the plate.
  12. Very strange. I would have expected 130 minimum from him.
  13. We didn't handle Bush so well last year...... CUBS AB R H 2b 3b HR RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS BABIP P/PA IsoD RBI% vs Suppan 67 14 25 5 0 4 11 4 8 0.373 0.408 0.627 1.035 0.382 4.04 0.035 0.200 vs Bush 72 15 13 3 0 6 13 9 11 0.181 0.294 0.472 0.766 0.127 3.75 0.114 0.241 vs. Milw 568 94 158 31 3 21 90 65 118 0.278 0.355 0.454 0.809 0.319 3.93 0.077 0.220 CUBS 5690 861 1577 336 21 185 815 642 1210 0.277 0.353 0.441 0.794 0.324 3.88 0.076 0.195 That was then. Besides, hopefully the mental image of Ricky Weeks slamming his helmet is all our guys need to drop double digits.
  14. I wouldn't say they're meaningless. A game in April counts the same in the standings as a game in September does. This won't be our only tough loss of the season, nor will it be our worst. But if we're ever at the point where we're wishing for an extra game or two on the Cardinals or whoever, we can point back to games like this that should have been won. If you want to look at it that way, we're actually even with the Cardinals on games blown - they were up two but gave up four in the ninth on Monday to lose. That being said, I do agree that this was a tough loss. It's one thing if your starter gets rocked or if you get shut down by a good pitcher or even a decent one. But to lose a game like this that they should have won is tough. Cubs still have the advantage with the pitching matchups in the last two games, so win those and you're fine. Bush and Suppan are guys who we can really torch.
  15. Actually, when Vizcaino entered the game, I had flashes of Alfonseca and Rojas. I know it all comes down to options and finances, but I'd much rather see the Shark in our pen over Viz or Gregg. Id take Chad Fox over the bunch.
  16. That's half right. Cubs and the Mets didn't pay outlandish prices for Harden or Santana, but he's wrong in thinking Peavy should go for similar because Harden and Santana were effectively in the last, or next to last years of their contracts, whereas Peavy is locked in for another 4 years. That's why Peavy is gonna go for top talent instead of mid to high grade talent, because whoever he goes to will control him for 4 years. Plus Santana would only agree to be traded if he got an extension, which drove his price way down. Harden had an option year and a laundry list of injuries. Peavy, while IMO not as good as those two pitchers, is in a whole different league when it comes to trade value because of his relatively durable career, top tier pitching talent, and an in place long term contract Well you can count us out then. And Peavy is right up there with Santana and Harden. Say what you will about Peavy pitching in a very pitcher friendly park, as Johan pitched in the Metrodome, which is just as pitcher friendly as Petco.
  17. .089/.389/.333/.721 Interesting line. How many guys with a sub .100 avg. have an OPS above .700?
  18. Whats up with Ascanio starting for Iowa? Looks like he got the job done as they won 6-2, but has he ever stated before?
  19. Yeah, not to mention the bullpen probably looked worse then than now. An excellent point. Woody blew his first save against the Brewers too. That wasn't a blown save Woody was usually pretty shaky with 1 run leads. With 2 or 3, he was lights out, but with a 1 run, he was pretty scary.
  20. Soriano isn't a defensive liability. The best move for the team is probably to pull Bradley and move Fukudome to right... if you absolutely feel the need to use a defensive replacement. I wouldn't. I didnt understand the point to begin with. Is Gathright even a good enough outfielder to warrant the move 2 games in a row?
  21. Miles was the right choice. he should have bunted with Soriano on deck.
  22. Before I foget, why is nobody questioning Lou using a defensive replacement for Fukudome when Soriano is by far the bigger defensive liability?
  23. I think everyone is on board with you here. I'm not really sure how I'd do it. All three of the options you mentioned sound pretty good. Soriano Fukudome Ramirez Bradley Soto Fontenot Lee Theriot That's probably how I'd do it. My ideal: Theriot Fukudome(as long as hes producing, I wouldnt move him) Soriano Ramirez Bradley Lee Soto Fontenot P More logical Soriano(if he were to moved out of leadoff, it would have already hapened) Fukudome Ramirez Bradley Soto Lee Fontenot Theriot P Lets focus on the positive here: would we rather get a win with Harden looking like he did in spring training and have a week of worrying about him? He dominated. He looked like he did when we first got him. If we win the next 2, like we should, we wont remember this one, but if Harden looked shakey and got the win anyway, wed be worrying about him all week.
