  1. how depressing is it that the Cubs have only outscored them by 2 runs in that time frame :(
  2. Prado is a backup IF with the Braves and probably will remain a backup IF with the Braves. I agree that Johnson alone probably wouldn't do it, but adding cash and/or a prospect might get it done. The Braves OF situation is pretty desperate. Blalock/Beltre/Mora might be cheaper to acquire (in players), but would cost more in money. Also, Blalock/Beltre/Mora might not be able to succeed in a backup role once Aram returns while Prado could back up everywhere in the IF. We already have enough backup middle infielders that were tyring to use as starters and it isnt working out. Martin gas respectable stats for a backup, but as a starter, hes probably Omar Infante at best. My point is that I think Prado is definitely an upgrade to Miles/Freel/Scales (and right now Fontenot). Let's not forget that he a backup to some pretty good players (Jones, Escobar, and Johnson). He does have experience at 3B and some at 1B, along with the MI. It wouldn't be an earth-shattering acquisition, but he looks to be a capable fill-in for Ramirez immediately and a solid role player for the future. Blalock/Mora/Beltre is trying to catch lightning-in-a-bottle for two months and then they would serve no purpose and might cause problems with being considered a backup. We need the lightening in a bottle. The 2 monts back up is what they need. After that, they can be a pinch hitter for all I care. Even if Ramirez does make it back by July or August, he'll need a day off here and there. My point is, Id rather get someone we know can be an upgrade over what we have, not someone who might be.

  4. Well we did face 2 CY Young award winners and another that will be a perenial contender as long as he syays healthy. Pineiro was a bad, unexcusable performance. I really dont see this guy shutting us down.
  5. It really cant hurt to try. There are a lot of guys who would be better loogys than Cotts. As long as its understood by Lou that hes no more than a Loogy, Id be all for the experiment.
  6. Josh Greer should be a guy we can come to life against. Hes your typical #5 starter/swingman type of pitcher. The problem is we got shut down by the likes of Piniero, which was demoralizing enough and then were fed into a buzzsaw of 3 straight ace caliber pitchers. I honestly belive we score some runs today, as long as our guys realize that this is not the place to play long ball.
  7. A veteran like Blalock, Beltre, or Mora would probably come cheaper than a 25 year old who hasnt hit his ceiling, and we surelt wouldnt get such a player for a package revolving around a career 4th outfielder on a 1 year contract.
  8. maybe we can get some sort of frankenstein's monster right fielder. babe ruth's left arm and andre dawson's right arm and adam dunn's eyes (not because he's good at walking, just because they're dreamy) and barry bonds's steroids and so on. If that type of technology was available, surely Kerry Prior would have won a few Cy Youngs by now.
  9. I think a lot of us are at the point where we want to make a trade, any trade not necessarily to make this a better team, but were tired of looking at the same mugs. Why not let Jake Peavy throw a wasted gem or Hank BLalock dribble a weak grounder to 2nd to end a fake rally. Surely Aubrey Huff can hit a lazy pop up just as good as Milton Bradley or Mike Fontenot.
  10. Either way, lately these games and the threads are about as depressing as those save a pet comercials.
  11. I really wish we had one of those Japanese managers who beat their players when they suck.
  12. he really hasnt had the opportunity. If theres a close play that we get the wrong end of the call on, then yeah, he can throw a tantrum, but its just been bad offense. He cant go kick dirt on the ump over a routine pop out or grounder. i'm not talking about bad calls, i'm talking about him expressing that the way the cubs are playing right now is not acceptable. burning down the locker room should get that message acros. with our luck, everyones horribly burned and only Aaron Miles escapes.
  13. can't say miles stole the money we willingly gave it to hiim and he's doing exactly what I expected him to do its just another in a line of "Give blanco a few million here, give neifi a million there, give aaron miles a few million here" moves that Hendry does just to anger us If somebody offers you 5 million dollars guaranteed to do something you're not very good at for 2 years, you'll take it too.

  15. With solid pitching performances against bad teams, the Cubs offense sure chose an inopportune time to take a week off.
  16. I predict a shot to shallow center that the camera will make look like it has a chance, game over. I hate fake rallys.
  17. As opposed to the teams that look pumped and excited during a losing streak? As opposed to guys who aren't making millions of dollars to play a game...thanks for playing though. Either Im really tired or thats confusing and more importantly irrelevent.
  18. Oh good, another fake rally. Please just end this.
  19. The way the Cubs are playing, the "another 1 bites the dust" CD is going to be worn out by the end of the series.
  20. This is normally a fake rally spot, but I expect nothing short of a 5-7 pitch 1-2-3 inning.
