  1. I get the feeling that Freel will have one of those blink and you miss it Cubs careers and in 5 years we'll see him in Spring Training for the Nationals and ask wasnt he a Cub at one point?
  2. Maybe someone gave this team a collective offensive enema.
  3. Hopfully Dempsters inability to find the K zone didnt cost us the game, but it wouldnt surprise me if it did.
  4. http://sportsroids.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/kimbo-slice-sportsroids-fighter-mma.jpg Kimbo likes the cut of your jibe
  5. He sure is making the most of of his off the DL stint.
  6. Trying often leads to succeeding. Maybe not tonight, but soon.
  7. I dont know bout yall but im hopin for Heilman The only thing Im hoping for Heilman is for him to be DFA'd. We have far more deserving relief pitchers that deserve to be DFA'd besides Heilman. Cotts and Patton come to mind. All 3 can go away for all I care.
  8. Yuck. Reed as the "cleanup hitter" and Micah as the 6th hitter? I think Lou is trying to put out a forfeit lineup. At this point, he may as well pull the Billy Martin pull names out of a hat. That's about as sorry a line up i've seen in my 20 plus years of watching the Cubs I take it 2006 wasnt one of your 20 plus years.
  9. Yes. Ive never actually seen Fox play is he really that bad in the field? I think its pretty obvious that hes "that" bad in the field or else hed be up by now. Ive officially conceeded that if he were to be brought up, it would have been done by now. Also, they have him playing 1B pretty much every game lately, so theyre clearly not grooming him for 3rd. I think he'll have a solid career as a DH. I just hope we get at least somethig for him.

  11. Yuck. Reed as the "cleanup hitter" and Micah as the 6th hitter? I think Lou is trying to put out a forfeit lineup. Reed's hit just as many out as Big Papi Not a good enough justification to put Reed in a "run producing" spot in the lineup. Hes produced more runs than anyone in over a week, so there you go.
  12. The playoffs are a crapshoot, anybody can win the World Series. The Mariners clinched in like August so they were resting their players for a month and it probably affected them in a negative way when they lost in October. Of course I'd tell you the Mariners had the better chance to win the World Series though. Ill agree if what you're trying to say is that sometimes, that end game momentum can carry you further into the playoffs than an early clinching.
  13. I don't know about you but I'd rather be a fan of the 83 win Cardinals team. 116 wins no ring is just depressing. And hey look, Lou was the manager of that team. You didn't answer the question. I didn't ask which you'd rather be a fan of. The goal in Spring Training isn't to win the most games in the regular season and fizz out in October. It's to win a World Series. So yes 2006 Cardinals>2001 Mariners. During the regular season, yes, the Mariners fans probably had a lot more fun, and the Cards fans probably weant through an often frustrating roller coaster ride. Hoiwever, in the end, The 2006 Cardinals got the desired results. So yes, the Mariners fans of 2001 had a better 6 month ride than the 2006 Cardinals fan, however, the 2006 Cards fans will always have a fond memory of that team, while Id assume that the majority of Mariners fans still have a bitter taste in their mouth from the end game. Id also assume that The passengers of the Titanic enjoyed a more memorable experience than those on a charter bus from Minneapolis to Chicago, however, when all is said and done, those who took said charter bus probably got home with much fonder memories of their trip than those on the Titanic. In the end, the question is, would you rather have a fun time that will last you the duration of the ride itself and ultimately leave a bitter taste in your mouth, or a roller coaster ride that will leave you with much fonder memories that will leave you smiling for years to come.
  14. why are we blaming Lou and Hendry and even Perry for this load of rubbish? Theres really nothing they can do at this point. If we were losing a bunch of 6-4 or 7-5 games being blown by poor bullpen management or leaving a starter in too long, then that would be one thing, but right now, the only people to blame are the players, more specificly, the offense. They're simple not doing anything. Its not like were some 1990'sesque garbage lineup, we have capable bunch of hitters . Even teams like the Pirates and Natinals can scrape up a few runs. These guys arent, and its been 6 straight games. Its a slump. An awful slump, but a slump, and I like to think that good ole Wrigley will wake em up, especially facing a legitamately bad team.
  15. I find it funny that the Sacramento roster still has Gallagher in his I Cubs hat. Couldnt they have at least used an A's pic?
  16. Iowa facing off against Sean Gallagher.
  17. You throw around the name "Miles" and ".280 hitter" like this is some sort of scenario that's likely to occur before Ramirez comes back. It's not. Fontenot is OPSing .650 (and falling) and Miles is just above .500. How is this an acceptable scenario when we may not see Ramirez take the field until August and we have several other black holes in the lineup that cannot be moved? You don't need a team full of sluggers, but you need a capable offense when you have a Brewers and Cardinals rotation that seems to pitch well no matter who they pick up off the scrap heap and a couple of offenses that are capable of putting runs up on the board like they are. You need a capable offense when you have a bullpen whose top three guys are Marmol, Gregg, and Heilman. You can't have a couple of extra Mendozas in your lineup when you already have a couple of albatrosses on the right side of the field that can't be moved, a guy behind the plate that may not hit all year, a third baseman who might not be able to produce to his potential even after he returns to the lineup, and a center fielder who may all of a sudden decide to turn back into a pumpkin just like he did last year. Scales has been getting a few walks lately, but his initial hot streak is clearly over. Id rather go with the guy who at least has some kind of track record as a singles hitter if I have to chose between the garbage. none of these guys are going to make up for what our main guys are doing now. A trade is necessary, but I havent heard any news. That doesnt mean its not going to happen.
  18. Im saying give him a chance to go out and be Aaron Miles if were not going to aquire a better option.
  19. It'd be a temporary fix at best. Given how Kouzmanoff is doing this season and given his track record, you'll be just as frustrated watching him as you are with Miles. And honestly, Scales is still OPSing .861. He likely won't keep it up, but I'd much rather have him in the lineup than Kouzmanoff until he actually does drop off. Actually, the real problem right now is the Fontenot/Miles/Scales trio. Soto was recently hitting pretty well and Bradley is a certainty to significantly improve on his current numbers. The 2B/3B conundrum is easily our biggest problem and we currently have a relative unknown (Font), a complete unknown (Scales) and a proven bad hitter (Miles) filling those spots. We need help at those two spots and if Fontenot doesn't start hitting and Aramis doesn't come back for a long time, that help will need to come from outside the organization. I don't see any evidence that Kouzmanoff is that help, though. Huff, Beltre, and Blalock would be the best choices, all of whom are probably going to be available sooner than later. I just mentioned Kouz because its the closest thing to a trade rumor Ive heard thus far. In a pderfect world, all we need is a temporary fix and Ram is back after the ASB. However, we cant gamble on that happening, which is why Im all for seeing what some of these options are going to cost ASAP. Sometimes you just have to take whats available the time of need, as evident by Phil Nevin in 2006. Granted, he didnt do much good despite 12 HRs and an .832 OPS, and was traded before the end of the season, but still. As I mentioned in another thread, Id like Miles at 2nd Font at 3rd if no trade happens. If we can get Miles usual .280 avg, hed be just fine as an 8 hitter, and you dont need a team full of sluggers to get to the playoffs when you have the pitching we do.
