  1. He was on our 40 man and became available when we tried to take him off. Fundamentally, I think he is the casualty required to get Brendan Ryan onto the 40 man. Why would we want to do something like that? Ryan is likely to be the backup infielder if we trade Javy for pitching. Shall we shed a tear for Mendy?

  3. Other: We invoke the rarely used Just Kidding Clause in Lackey's contract and then trade for Rays pitcher and stock up on reclamations. But in all seriousness, we should be able to find takers for Hammel, Wood, or Coghlan if it came down to it. And I'd be ok with all or any of them if it's what it takes.
  4. Kind of surprised that Cespedes name hasn't been brought up. Cheaper than Heyward and probably similar cost to Gordon.
  5. You've inspired me to assemble to official "2011 Who?/I Completely forgot He was a Cub" Team. So enjoy and you're welcome. 1B Anthony Recker. 2012. 9 games. .167/.286/.389. 2B Alberto Gonzalez. 2013. 11 Games. 26PA/23AB. .217/.269/.391. Joe Mather. 2012. 243PA/225AB .209/.256/.324. RF. Darnell McDonald. 2013. 25 games. 57PA/53AB. .302/.351/.434. C JD Boscan 2013. .222/.300/.333. SP Doug Davis. 2011. 9 G. 6.50 ERA. 1.861 ERA SP Scott Baker. 2013. 3 Games. 3.60 ERA/0.867. BP Henry Rodriguez. 2013. 5 Games. 4.50 ERA/2.500 WHiP. BP Manny Corpas. 2012. 48 games. 5.01ERA/1.414 ERA. That did happen, didn't it? BP Hisanori Takahashi. 2013. 3 games. Ok, now B-Ref's just making guys up.
  6. Johnny Cueto’s Agent On Cardinals, Market https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/12/johnny-cueto-dodgers-cardinals-diamondbacks.html Doesn't sound like much at this point, but Cueto to the Cards really isn't something we need to happen.
  7. Those first 3 might be enough for a rehabbing Cobb? I'd be surprised if that's enough for McGee or Odorizzi Anything of use in return for that trio would be immense. Villanueva and Vogelbach could have productive big league careers. But it won't be with us. As for Szczur; remember when Keith Law comped him to Juan Pierre and it was taken as a bad thing?
  8. With Wood, Cahill, and Richard, we'd have no shortage of back end/emergency depth. And nobody ever toe-tagged the Baez/Rays talks. Maybe Teheran, depending on how dedicated the Braves are to their rebuild. And there's always the option of dumpster diving. Brandon Beachy would be an interesting Bosio project.
  9. With Shelby Miller, Archie Bradley, Rubby De La Rosa, Randall Delgado, and Robbie Ray, the D Backs rotation certainly has the potential to be something special.
  10. I'm just wrapping my head around the potential opening day depth chart: (*= non big league roster) 1B Rizzo (L) 2B Zobrist (S) LaStella (L) SS Russell ®, Baez ® 3B Bryant ® LF Schwarber (L), Coghlan (L) CF I really have no idea, Baez, Bryant RF Soler ® C Montero (L) Ross ®, Schwarber SP Arrieta ® Lester (L) Lackey ® Hammel ® Hendricks ® Warren ® Wood (L) Cahill ® Richard (L) Bullpen Rondon ® Strop ® Grimm ® Brothers (L) Ramirez ® Warren ® Wood (L) Cahill ® Richard (L) And damn, depending on who's in CF, this team could be anywhere from awesome to epic. Needless to say, Javy or Soler could still be traded. And I can't imagine starting the season with 13 pitchers, so it's hard to tell who's going to be the odd man out. Ramirez seems like the logical choice, but there's also an awful lot of left handedness going in in there too, so Wood, Richard, or Brothers could easily be traded by the spring.
  11. It's called haggling. We agreed to take stupid Brent Lillibridge, or whatever the hell his stupid, white name is off their hands.
  12. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the most tenured Cubs are now: 1. Travis Wood 2. Anthony Rizzo 3. Hector Rondon 4. Pedro Strop 5. Jake Arrieta
  13. So out are Dexter Fowler, Starlin Castro, Fernando Rodney, and Jonathan Herrerra. Possibly Jorge Soler in the near future. In are John Lackey, Ben Zobrist, Adam Warren, Rex Brothers, and Brendan Ryan. I feel as though there's a trend here, but I can't quite put my finger on it.
  14. In related news, even Theo has forgotten that Arismendy Alcantara exists.
  15. I don't think we so much want him as the Yankees were all "hey, do you guys want this, cause we're just going to toss it." And we were all "uh, yeah, sure. I mean we don't really need it, but if you don't have any use for it, sure. Worst case scenario, we give it to goodwill for a tax deduction."
  16. For something that's been talked about for almost a year, it's all so sudden. It's like that good friend who's been going on about about moving across the country for years, and you think nothing of it. Then one day they're all Ok, I'm shipping off tomorrow. Help me pack and you can have my stereo. And you're all WTF, nobody expected you to go through with it. Have a nice life. Dick.
  17. Wow. Been hearing about it all day, but the confirmation made me suddenly very sad, and I'm not even joking.
  18. Surprised that Betences name isn't being mentioned. It would fit with the reports that we were exploring a trade for a top closer.
  19. I know that people far smarter than I like Zobrist. And I don't hate the idea, but I'd just as soon let the Mets and Nats fight over him, go all in for Heyward for CF or Heyward in RF and dive into the Fowler/Bradley/Jackson/Span/Gardner pool to fill CF if they still insist on trading Soler for pitching.
  20. Anybody else notice that Justin Upton's name has yet to come up, like at all?
  21. Basically, they want him for RF if Soler's traded for pitching. Which is ok for me, because I kept having horrifying visions of Swisher and his contract coming over with Shelby Miller.
  22. The thing is, I doubt this was orchestrated by Bryant or even Boras, so much as the players union as a whole. Though they probably didn't have to twist Boras' arm very hard.
