  1. Love how causally you group Fernandez in with Teheran. Not sure what the hang up is. I'm not saying they're the same guy, but they're both young, stud pitchers with multiple years of team control. Fernandez is certainly the sexier option, but he hasn't pitched a full season since 2013. Teharen has, and some quite good ones. So yeah, one guy could potentially be a legend whereas the other is more likely to end up very good, but my point is I'd take either. Or both.
  2. Billy's going to always try and do business with whoever gives him the best return. And judging by our FO's track record, that probably won't be us. Especially if we intend to use him as a reliever, while other suitors are going to be in the hunt for starting pitching. And Hill's looking to be one of the best options on the market, at least in terms of rentals. Shields, Fister, and maybe Cashner are the only other options I can think of off the top of my head. I'd just as soon pony up for Teheran or Fernadez and let the White Sox, Dodgers, and Rangers duke it out for the rentals.
  3. Ugly outing from Steele. Speaking of which, I'm starting to lose track of the lower level pitching prospects. Can someone update me on who to be following in terms of Steele/Sands/Kellogg/Twomey, and I forget who else.
  4. He's 19 years old and in low A, so it's not like there's any urgency to move him. Yeah, if he's going to land us somebody like Fernandez or Tehran, in which case he'd be a secondary or tertiary piece of the package, then fabulous. If not, it will be very easy to keep him.
  5. There's always the irrational fear that a return to Wrigley sparks bad memories and he goes back to walking everything in sight. But in all seriousness, I have to wonder if Billy's going to try and do business with a GM who he has a better chance of fleecing since his other trade chips are broken.
  6. To anybody with insomnia and the MLB Network, at 9:15 this evening, it will be former Cubs top prospect vs. former Cubs top prospect when Jeff Samrdzjia and the Giants take on Andrew Cashner and the Padres.
  7. Because while the rest of the world hates him, Sox ownership loves him.
  8. That's really not worth losing sleep over. It would be one thing if they were actual prospects, but other than Williams who's been decent and the mostly injured Johnson, they're a bunch of AAAA filler. It'a no secret that our upper levels in general are devoid of starting pitching. But it seems as though our idea of developing pitchers is to have Bosio repair other team's failures. And it seems to be working out pretty well.
  9. It's felt like this teams been in a collective slump since the Cole game, but it really hasn't. Over the past 7 games: We've got 2 guys in beast mode- Zobrist: .429/.484/.607 Miggy: .357/.526/.500 Some respectable but not spectacular stretches- Fowler: .241/.371/.448 Bryant: .250/.364/.571 Heyward: .269/.367/.385 Soler: .238/.333/.476 And some vomit inducing slumps: Rizzo: .074/.194/.074 Russell: .083/.154/.125 Baez: .105/.105/.105 (there's something impressive, if not majestic about that, even at such a SSS.) And we've had very solid starting pitching other than Lester the other night. Put it all together, and it's not so much a slump as it is a string of baseball is stupid type close games that didn't go our way.
  10. What we could really use is some kind of Bryan LaHair/Jake Fox type beast to emerge and mindless crush fastballs for a few weeks and then galumph off into the sunset.
  11. I think that what we can all agree upon is that the past week and a half of baseball has been thoroughly unenjoyable to watch. And when in the thick of a stretch like this, it begins to feel like it's gone on lot longer than it has, and that it's going to go on for a lot longer than it will. And while it is possible that it goes on for the rest of the season, it would defy all odds and logic. Then again, so would an entire baseball season without a few rough patches.
  12. Sobering thought that it's probably going to be in the next year or 2 that the first players born in the new millennia start to pop up in the Rookie leagues.
  13. Nothing much going on tonight...I'm running with a dead arm period for Kellogg, another bad outing with BBs and a HR. Others did stuff but it's May and none of this really matters. Actually scratch that - Underwood continues to confirm that he sucks. I'm really hoping that Underwood's struggles are more ring rust than anything. On an unimportant note, they should probably bury that Alex Sanabia fellow back in the same hole from which they dug him out.
  14. Angels Designate Al Alburquerque For Assignment https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/05/angels-designate-al-alburquerque-for-assignment.html Any interest in bringing him back home?
  15. Why, can he catch? Gee, I can't fathom why the Cubs would carry an extra catcher to back up and old man and a guy with a bad back for the time being. He's a waste of a roster spot. He can't hit worth a damn, and if the need for a back up-back up catcher arose, we could pick up another 10 of Fedorawhatsit on a moment's notice. Besides, isn't there supposed to be an emergency catcher on every roster? One of the bench guys who could survive a few innings behind the plate in the even that the other two are out of the game?

  17. Who knows what will ultimately become of Neil Ramirez, but I have to assume that whatever potential he had left is more valuable than Koyie Hill v. 2.0 continuing to exist for no good reason.
  18. I've been speculating the lack of promotion has something to do with being able to trade he or Happ already. Might as well keep them at levels where it is sure they won't kill any positive perceptions. If Happ is struggling in High A, not sure Dewees wouldn't struggle worse as he is the less powerful hitter. I'd tend to think the opposite; that his lack of promotion could raise a red flag. It's not like anybody's going to be fooled by his numbers as a 22 year old in Low A.
  19. I know Donnie DeWees isn't as sexy as Eloy, but when does he get promoted? 19 and raw, there's no rush for Eloy. But DeWees is 22 at the lowest level possible. And while he did crash back to earth after his red hot start, he's quietly rebounded to the tune of .256/.348/.462 over the past 10 games. And it's not like there's anyone really blocking him at the next level.
  20. I need to take a fist full of Vicodin just reading that.
  21. In a hypothetical world where The Cubs could make one key acquisition between now and the deadline, which would you prefer (assuming any could be had at a reasonable cost)
  22. Dhalsim, because he was kind of the Sub Zero of the game, in that he had a lot of long range attacks that could be repeated over and over, sending more experienced and strategic opponents into fits.
  23. Josh Reddick Suffers Fractured Left Thumb https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/05/josh-reddick-suffers-fractured-left-thumb.html Expected to miss 4-6 weeks.
  24. I very much like our chances with Arrieta vs. Peavy and Lester vs. Cain. Hendricks vs. Mad Bum; not so much. On a side note, if all healthy and in their prime, the Giants rotation (Mad Bum, Peavy, Cueto, Cain, Shark) would be one for the ages.
