  1. They already him in their system and they traded him. Sam Fuld is not worth 1st rd. Money. Isnt Ty Wright pretty much the same guy anyway?
  2. Keep in mind Dempsters horrific start to the year and the fact that weve been starting a minor leaguer, a middling relief pitcher, and a 50 year old in place of what should have been a more than solid 4-5. Unfortunately, I dont see Rodrigo Lopez, Ramon Ortiz, Russ Ortiz, Shawn Estes, Julian Tavarez, or which ever late 30s guy who was mediocre at best in their prime they decide to dig up next as being much of an upgrade.
  3. Can we please take a series from the [expletive] Pirates here?
  4. I guess my scoreboard was a bit behind. Looks like he's finally recovered from that TJS and could be making his way onto at least our top 20.
  5. Bour with another HR. More impressively, Rhee with 9k with only 1 BB through 4 IP with ER on a solo shot.
  6. Wasn't Lopez supposed to be good at one point? while I have nothing against sending Berg down, I'm kind of surprised it wasn't Coleman.
  7. Will McNutt be ready for AAA any time soon? Also, maybe they can stretch Carpenter out to start again and send him back up, and hopefully Coleman will be able to help them soon.
  8. Still, if we were to move Aramis, Pena, and Fukudome wed have a decent shot at a top 3 pick.
  9. How crazy is it that I don't think it's quite over yet. Get healthy, get lucky, get hot, and we could still squeak out this awful division. There's 71% of the season remaining, so of course it's possible if they get lucky and hot. But their crappy division leader still has the 3rd best winning percentage among the leaders. They already have 4 teams to jump and are on pace for a 90 loss season. The Cubs need to win at a 90 win pace the rest of the way just to get to 85 wins. STL has to play to 1 game under .500 the rest of the way to get 85. It's a huge uphill battle and they already went into the season needing nearly everything to go right to contend. Somebody has to pitch (and play) for the rest of the season. It could get real ugly if the Cubs sell Ramirez, Dempster, and Pena at the deadline. At that point, it doesn't matter anymore and were playing for draft picks.
  10. Even in this scenerio, its not like they sign Pujols and no more free agents for the next few years. Anything they cant build through the farm, they should still be able to add free agents around them.
  11. I dont know if Id say hes been on a tear, but rather hes been consistant, and not the Soriano-esque feast or famine type hitter hes been the past 2 years.
  12. That's a terrible reason. Realizing where the player is likely going to be in conjunction with the team's progression isn't a terrible reason. When your a big market team with a group of good young players like Castro, Soto, Barney, Garza, Cashner, and Marmol, Marshall and a decent farm system, theres no reason not to be able to build a perenial contender around the best player in the world. If they cant manage that, there are a lot of people that need to be fired. If Pujols leaves the Cards, their likely done. When Fielder leaves the Brewers, they might be competitve for another year or 2 until Greinke and Marcum leave, and then their empty farm system leaves them in trouble. After that, I could really see the NL Central coming down to the Cubs, Reds, and Pirates for the next several years.
  13. Cause he knows it won't be coming off. But it's still just one game and it wasn't like the Cubs were threatening to take the lead or took the lead that inning and had the runs taken off the board because the rain came. Shortened games happen and it seems excessive to go crazy because of it. Its probably just an intense rage thats been boiling inside him for the past 2 months and its finally coming out on an umpire because he delayed a game during a downpour when Scott Maine probably would have given up another 5 runs anyway.
  14. That's some kind of hot streak. What's more, he's walked 6 times and struck out none. This guy is dialed in right now. Maybe hes taking the Geo Soto rout, and randomly exploding after several years of nothingness in the system. Or maybe hes just off to a good start. Simalarly, Jonathon Mota, whose only 23 despite being in the system since the early 90's seems to be doing OK after years of nothingness as well.
  15. I like to think that Cubs fans wouldnt be fooled enough by any smoke screen a 30 year old career minor leaguer would put up to feel that hes a viable alternative to Albert Pujols or Prince Fielder. However, I do think that hed be able to give us similar offesnive production to what Penas given us so far with less walks.
  16. But you cant deny that when these guys first come up, they give us a great month or 2 before pitchers learn how insanely full of holes their swings are. Because hoffpauir did that? Lahair played 45 game with Seattle and ops'ed a robust .661. and Jake Fox. and Tyler Colvin. When the deadline rolls around, and were 12 games out and we trade Carlos Pena for a few prospects, theres a good chance we'll be seeing a few months of Brian LaHair. Hes not going to fool anyone into not going after Fielder or Pujols, but it will be interesting to see what he does. More than likely, he'll hit a few home runs and strike out a bunch, but he'll have eanred the call up.
  17. LeMahieu 2/4 with 2 doubles. Vitters went 2/4 with a double - his BA is above .270 and his OPS should finally clear .750. Luis Flores with 2 HRs. Dont forget Rebel 3/5 with an HR and Nelson Perez with a PH 2B.
  18. Nice outing by Nick Struck. 6 IP 0 ER 8 K 0 BB 7 H Oh, and the Smokies are beating on another opponent. Why cant our big league team be that damn good.
  19. 1B Blake DeWitt 2B Darwin Barney SS Augie Ojeda 3B Ryan Freel RF Reed Johnson CF Tony Campana LF Sam Fuld C Koyie Hill Managaer: Eric Byrnes
  20. For what its worth, I aksed on MLBTR live chat who Tim saw as the Cubs 2012 corner infielders, and this was the response Reynolds would be an interesting option. A big fat no thank you to the other options.
  21. But you cant deny that when these guys first come up, they give us a great month or 2 before pitchers learn how insanely full of holes their swings are.
  22. At that point, we may as well say [expletive] it and empty out the farm for Ichiro and King Felix as well.
  23. This was actually pretty clever. I have my moments here and there.
  24. He just fits the mold of one of those guys who go to Japan and hit a million home runs.
  25. Yeah . . . but who plays third next year? Someone along the lines of Blake DeWitt, Jeff Baker, Marquez Smith, Josh Vitters, or Ryan Flaherty. Or someone else.
