  1. Now that De La Rosas season is over, Im surprised that the Rockies arent on the phone with the Twins as we speak. Sloweys probably the best available starting pitching option at this time.
  2. My current, short sighted top 10 list, mainly pertaining to perfomrance so far this year 1A. Brett Jackson 1B. Trey McNutt (when dealing with a top pitching and PP prospect, its tough to decide whose 1 and 2) 3. Ryan Flaherty-I will be criticized for this one, but the guy has looked great this year 4. Rob Whitenack 5. Josh Vitters 6. Matt Szcur 7. David LaMehieu 8. Jae Hoon Ha 9. Aaron Kursz 10. Justin Bour
  3. It seems that Japan seems to love 1 dimensional american sluggers, Matt Murton, Larry Bigbie, Micah Hoffpauir, Randall Simon, and Tuffy Rhodes to name a few. In turn, we seem to have an intrigue in their young players. Would they ever consider trading players with Japan? AAA teams across the league are filled with these guys, and maybe they could start seeing if theyd be willing to make trades with Japan. Obviously, the players on both sides would need to consent to it, but it would be a great opportunity for a career minor leaguer. Obviously, we arent going to get guys like Ichiro, Fukudome, Daisuke or Darvish for the likes of Brad Snyder or Brian LaHair, but Japanese teams could be interested enough in these guys to send over some young players who want the chance to play in the US.
  4. I dont want to see the Indians win the world series for simple petty reasoning. Since our near miss in 2003, 7 of the last 8 series winner has been either another long suffering franchise, or one known for failure: Red Sox('04, '07) Phillies('08), Giants('10), a bitter rival Cardinals('06) or both White Sox ('05). We need someone to share in our misery.
  5. The Cubs have scored 9 runs or more 5 times this season. Each time, they lost the next game. They scored 1 run or less in 4 of those games. Lets buck that little trend. Cubs up, Gee down.
  6. They need to seriously consider sending 1 of Ridling, Spencer,or Flaherty to Iowa. With Montanez called up, theres a spot open.
  7. I just thought that Id mention that when Lou Montanez was drafted to be the Cubs shortstop of the future, the Cubs actual shortstop of the future was a 10 year old boy using a milk carton as a glove.
  8. Except for the whole best pitcher to the DL part. Doesn't sound like he'll be out too long though. I hope.
  9. Per Bruce Miles, Geo is set to start a rehab stint in Tenn, and could be activated by saturday.
  10. Bruce tweets that Garza is indeed hitting the DL with an elbow bone bruise retroactive to 5/17. It doesn't sound all that awful, and certainly better than a torn or strained something or other. Hopefully he only misses another start or 2 at most.
  11. Was he even on the radar before this year, and is he an actual prospect or one of those guys who will be mashing away at Iowa or some other teams AAA affiliate well into his late 20s?
  12. I didnt know Wayne Gretzky had a kid in the draft. Shawon Dunston too. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20110524&content_id=19486034&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb
  13. Great days for both Lake and Bour. Juan Serrano seems to be be doing well. We signed him at the same time as Rubi Silva, right?
  14. Yeah, but looking back at that 1st round in 2000, aside from Baldelli(6), Utley(15) and Wainwright(29), its not like we missed out on much. Missing out on Utley is the definition of missing out on much. That I know. What Im saying is there were 12 teams that ended up with duds between A Gon and Utley, not counting Baldelli as a dud, and then another 14 that ended up with duds between Utley and Wainwright.
  15. Yeah, but looking back at that 1st round in 2000, aside from Baldelli(6), Utley(15) and Wainwright(29), its not like we missed out on much. Maybe if A Gon(1) had fallen a few spots, wed be looking at a different story. http://www.mymlbdraft.com/2000 I was trying to find the 2000 draft day scouting report on Montanez, but couldnt. Anyone know where I could?
  16. They just keep winning even with Hafner and Sizemore on the DL. The fruits of the Sabathia and V mart trades seem to be ripening as well. Masterson, Carrasco, Talbot, White, and Tomlin could be a very good young pitching staff for several years to come and Faustos been solid too.
  17. You know what I mean. When someone signs him, and Im sure they will. He must be at least a type B. It's pretty damn unlikely they'd offer him arbitration. yeah, I flaked on that part. Still, hes a guy they'll get decent value for at the deadline. I mean weve gotten some OK fringe guys for the likes of Neifi Perez, Todd Walker, and Mike Fontenot. Id think that Cuddyer would bring in at least what we got for D Lee if nothing else due to his versatility. And who knows, maybe if he does go to a new team, Ill fianlly be able to tell him apart from Jason Kubel.
  18. Has anyone heard anything on Garza? I suppose no news is good news, but then again, we didnt have a clue anything was wrong with Wells until we hear and oh, by the way, hes going to the DL too.
  19. You know what I mean. When someone signs him, and Im sure they will. He must be at least a type B.
  20. I think it's a given that an outfielder will be called up before tomorrow's game. Calling up a pitcher to replace Byrd on the roster was a move for one game, to provide bullpen depth behind Russell. It would be an interesting story if it is Montanez: Former Cubs' #1 draft pick makes Cubs' debut more than a decade after being drafted after first spending time in the ex-Cubs' rest home in Baltimore. :D I dont mind calling up Montanez. Or LaHair or Snyder, who are all pretty much interchangeable, but I wonder of that 1 bad slide came between Brett Jackson and a callup. I wonder if their will be any correspoinding roster moves for Iowa, Tennessee, and Daytona, or if Iowa will jutst stick with an extra pitcher.
  21. Thats good news aside from the lingering soreness.
  22. Soto. Is he still around? Here and there. When Koyie Hill isn't being awesome. I thought they sent him to the Orioles for a 27 year old AAA outfielder.
  23. Unless your talking about a team in financial turmoil, they're not going to dump the guy for salary relief. They could get a solid prospect package for him, and that's more valuable than the cash. Even if they don't, the draft picks or pick they get for him if he leaves as an FA would be valuable as well. You can forget about getting him for Grabow and cash. Besides in the position were in, it doesn't make sense for us anyway. Wed only need him if we moved one of our outfielders or Pena, in which case, wed be in sell mode anyway, in which case we would not be picking up any salary.
  24. Maybe Colvin and a young pitcher with some hint of value (Coleman/Jackson/Carpenter) would get us Slowey. Maybe not. As far as the Grabow/Cuddyer part of the deal, why? When was the last time 2 non contenders made a trade for random expiring contracts? No team, much less a well run team that happens to be miles away from contention will have any use for Grabow, nor will they want to send Cuddyer out of town for table scraps when they could get some decent prospects for him at the deadline.
