    McNutt and Kurcz both with solid outings. As for Bour, it cant be too far down when he gets sent to Tenn with Spoencer, Ridling, or Flaherty to Iowa.

    No, but he could definitely be a replacement for DeWitt or Baker in the future.

    He was at 3B two games ago (Friday's game; he had Saturday off). With Spencer, Ridling, Flaherty and LeMahieu around, there are too many players and not enough IF spots. They all move around. Yeah, they seem to move these guys all over the field. The wise thing to do might be to make some of the I Cubs go away, and send Flaherty, Ridling, or Spencer up. Would anybody really miss Matt Camp, Bobby Scales, or Scott Moore? If they want to keep these guys around for one reason or another, more power to them, but at this point, theyre holding back guys with actual potential. I think that Flaherty, Ridling, and Spencer are easily ready for the next step. Id keep LeMahieu in AA for a bit due to his age. Brian LaHair, Brad Snyder, and some of those guys might want to try their hand in Japan. They seem to love those 1 dimensional sluggers. OT: Is Japan even having a season this year? If so, anyone know how Micah Hoffpauirs doing?

    That depends on how long Byrd will be on the shelf. If its the 15 day minumum, it wouldnt make sense to start Bretts clock for a 2 week stint. However, if Byrd will be out for an extensive period of time, it would be interesting to see them call him up.

    I feel like they are our big market clone. Lots of high priced aging talent. Except they have Reyes and Wright and we have Castro and....Brett Jackson? Oh and also they are broke and we are just frugal (for now). They've also got Davis and Beltran rockin' it. Isnt Davis on the DL?

    I think we can expect around 70 pitches from McNutt today. I'm excited to see how Beeler does. And Kurcz has been coming of late, so I'm interested there, too. Who? I was talking about Bibens Dierks. Duh :D

    Colvin was sent to Iowa on May 16, so it'll be another 4 days until he's in the minors long enough to be recalled. I'm not sure on the specifics of the exception, so I don't know if Berg's callup negates the use of the exception for Colvin or not. I have to assume it would negate it. The transaction bringing up Colvin would be him replacing Berg. Probably right. That would be the most logical thing. If Baker joins Byrd on the DL, Colvin can replace him. Not sure who would replace Berg though. Marquez Smith seems like a possibility. Ryan Flaherty would be an interesting option as well. Hes played pretty much every position in AA but C and P. However, my money is once again on Bobby Scales, whose always my default guess. Hes one of those gritty white guys the Cubs love, minus the white part.I really hope its not Fernando Perez. Theres no excuse to have him and Campana on the same team.

    Aside from the Ks to walks, Junior Lake seems to be getting really good, at least offensively. Doesnt he have some serious defensive issues though? Any chance that they convert him to something else, as Castro will likely be holding down SS for many years to come? And its good to see Szczur back. Any word on Jacksons return? I dont know which of these guys will be stars, everyday players, journeyman, or even ever get a cup of coffee, but following guys like Lake, Flaherty, LaMahieu, Ridling, Sczur, Bour, Ha, Crawford, Cerda, and sometimes Vitters is at least a decent escape from the fact that our big league team kind of sucks.

    Well, considering I could care less if any our crap middle relievers or Quade get suspended for any amount of games, I hope we throw at one of their guys nice and hard.

    Sorry I didn't post a link, Bruce Miles tweet. Not official, likely though as Berg is in Boston. I understand them wanting an extra reliever, even a bad one with tonight being a bullpen game, but hopefully a real player gets called up tomorrow. Any chance that Brett is close enough to returning that it could be him? Otherwise, Colvin is a likely option, especially with the chance for more PT.

    What better way to replace one of your more consistant hitters than with a crappy relief pitcher. Too bad Brett Jackson is still hurt. This could have been his time.

    That was a pleasant surprise. Now hopefully Garzas elbow tightness will be just that and he'll make his next start.

    Yes, by all means we should start the loogy who has proven that he has no business starting against one of the top offenses in baseball. Quade keeps getting better and better.

    I think Samardjzia would have to be the guy unless they call up someone from Iowa. Aside from last night, hes been very good, at least when he can find the strike zone. Russells emphatically proven that he has no business pitching more than an inning at a time, and I don't know what the other options are. I don't even want to think about what happens if Garza has to hit the DL. All the Iowa starters have been bad. I guess Jackson would be the best option, because of the bunch, Diamond, Mathes, Bibens-Dierks, and Ortiz, Jax has the most potential to not be awful. Or do they just say [expletive] it and start the clock ticking on McNutt?

    If we would luck out like the Blue Jays did with Wells, that would be super, but its not realistic to think that the team is going to eat that much money to let a productive player play elsewheren especially considering that we don't have anyone in the minors who could equal his production.

    Im sure everyone is going to want in. However, like I said, unless some team like the Mariners or Blue Jays blow everyone else out of the water, and all offers are similar, the best business decision is to go with a big market team like Cubs, Yanks, Red Sox, Dodgers, Angels, or Mets. I know baseball players arent as marketable as basketball players, but Pujols could become a serious brand in the right market with the right exposure.

    I agree with Hill. Davis is a fill in. IM on the fence with Johnson. As for Soriano, hes going to hit .250-.260, OPS in the .800s and hit 20-25 home runs. Whether hes doing it for the Cubs, Orioles, Blue Jays, Newark Bears, or whoever, the Cubs are going to be paying him to do it. This being said, I cant see us pulling someone off the street to duplicate those numbers, so if we have to pay him anyway, may as well be to play for us. A salary dump for his production would be meaningless and foolish and not going to happen.

    As good as Pujols is, it would be an awful lot of money for a team to pay to fill a need they dont have. Its not like the Yankees and Red Sox are struggling for offense. Im sure theyd love to have him, as any team would, but would it be realisitc for them to sign the guy, considering all the money they already have tied into those teams if its not something they truely need? If they get back on their feet financially, Id still bet on the Mets or Dodgers to be our strongest competiton aside from the Cardinals. As for dark horses like the Nationals or Blue Jays, unless they offer something ridiculous, and blow everyone else out of the water Im sure his agent would prefer he land in a bigger market team if the offers are similar..

    It's nice when your team really hasn't had any kind of a hot streak and you are still in the race. Then again, I don't really see how this team is going to pull off a hot streak. After were through with The Red Sox, or rather theyre through with us, we have a nice little stretch vs. the Mets, Pirates(who were do to beat), and Astros before a very rough June featruing the Cards, Reds, Brewers, Yankees, White Sox, Giants, Royals, and Rockies, all of whom are .500 or above, aside from the White Sox and Brewers, both of who are better than what theyve shown so far. This is actually the ideal time for such a stretch, as it should determine what the plans are for the deadline.

    I think Pujols prefers to play first base, so the Red Sox (Gonzalez) and the Yankees (Teix) would have to either move their current first basemen to DH or sell Pujols on DHing. Obviously, but that's relatively incidental compared to being able to effectively give him whatever he wants when it comes to years and money. And I don't think it would be too hard to convince either guy to move to DH if it means they get Pujols on their team. Dont be so sure. A lot of guys want to play defense, and its not like A Gon and Teix are a couple of 35 year old wash ups, theyre in their prime, and I beleive pretty good 1Bs.

    Yeah, I dont know what the hell happened to Carpenter. As for Spencer, both him, Flaherty, Jackson and maybe LeMahieu and Ridling are likely ready for the next level, however, Iowa seems like more of a purgatory than anything, and if the time were to come, they could probably be called up straight from Tenn. However, unless there were a fore sale, and we started trading guys, may as well let them do what theyre doing and give em a look at ST. However, if an opening were to appear in Iowa, Id be all about sending them. Is it wrong to be as optimistic about these guys as I am? Theyre not a bunch of 28 year olds facing 35 year old junkballers, but then again, theyre not MIke Trout or Bryce Harper, and arent they in a more pitcher friendly league than Iowa?

    I just checked the standings for the first time in a while and was quite surprised learn that we were only 5.5 games back. It's not like the Reds and Cards have been bad either.
