  1. Man that nightmare June schedule has been as advertised as we're 9-18 so far. My guess is that with Lincecum on the mound, the L-L-W trend will be ending this evening.
  2. Nothing earth shattering. Hes basically saying, for the next 3 months or so, Im a Brewer and playing 1B. After that, Im following the money, and lots of it.
  3. This would definitely be the time to sell high.
  4. Going by this season alone, Flahertys one of our top 3-5 prospects, and thats not really a good thing. that's why people don't evaluate prospects like that. Yes, I know, which is why Brian LaHair isn't our top prospect. As for Flaherty, is it safe to say his ceiling is Mark DeRosa and his floor is Aaron Miles?

  6. Close game your problem? Dont have time for extra innings? Scared to lose ground in the fecal league? Well we've got the product for you. Introducing John Grabow, and for the low, low price of $7.5 million, he can be yours.
  7. Heard it on the radio this afternoon that it happened after game one. Not sure if DJ was sent to Iowa or Tenn, but either way, its best he get everyday PT. Basically a move to get an extra arm for the pen for the double header. Ill assume another bat will be called up sooner than later and some pitcher, be it Mateo, Davis, or Lopez go away.
  8. I could care less about the score, but Castros 0-4 saddens me.
  9. Even after today's terrible outing, Davis has still been better than Coleman this year. May as well try Jay Jackson or Alberto Cabrera for shits and giggles.
  10. I'm not worried. We have Rodriigo Lopez pitching tonight :(
  11. Pat Burrell seems to always kill us. Im not denying that Doug Davis is bad though.
  12. Looks like Doug Davis is doing that thing where he remembers hes Doug Davis.
  13. As much as I like what Penas giving us, hes going to have to do a lot more to fool me into not wanting Fielder or Pujols. He might end up getting himself a nice 3 year deal though from someone if hes willing to wait until those 2 are off the table.
  14. I remember they had this debate on MLB network when there was a rumor, and Mitch Williams said he would hesitate to trade Howard for Pujols straight up. Of course, Williams is a moron, but still. I initially read that as "Mitch Richmond" and was really confused as to why they were talking to him on the MLB Network. Mitch Richmond, one of the more underrated NBA players of the 90's.
  15. Carlos Pena is pretty much given us what we would have expected from Adam Dunn+defense.
  16. Please let the Cards trade Shelby Miller for Heath Bell.
  17. Bruce Miles tweets that Mike Quade will be taking Riggs spot on the NL All Star teams coaching staff. Apparently, all other NL managers had plans that night.
  18. Denial - Denial - Denial. Jackson's performance has dropped like a stone in a wishing well after the first 6 weeks of the season. I don't know if the reason is lingering effects from his hand injury or he is pressing to fulfill his personal time table to reach the majors. His drop in production and rise in strikeouts parallels with Marlon Byrd's injury (along with his injury). Remember, he dropped in the draft because he pressed the last year in college to hit more HRs to impress the scouts. And I will throw out a left field thought: Matt Szczur. Szczur is the new darling of the online scouting media (example: BA). Jackson might be pressing to keep his talent status within the Cub organization while Szczur is being talked about as the new stud CFer (and we can't forget HA's rising status). Players are keenly aware of the competition, from across the dugout to teammates. I still think Jackson will be an everyday MLB player, however, he needs to mature past his history to impress on his terms. Ha seems to be in a bit of a slump himself.
  19. But how much savings are really that realistic? It's difficult to see a scenario where moving Soriano isn't essentially just paying him to play somewhere else. Seems like it would be a PR move for the meatballs and the Kaplans of the world more than anything. Trust me, I'd love to watch Soriano have the game-winning hit to win a title just so Kaplan would hopefully kill himself, but I don't think it's impossible to find a taker for him at 3/27. I know he's a glaring exception, but Vernon Wells had his entire horrific contract absorbed. If we could find a sucker as the Blue Jays always seem to, Id be thrilled. Even if Soriano can sustain the numbers his putting up now, I cant imagine anyone taking him without us having to eat at least half of his salary, which I wouldnt be opposed to if we could get some quality prospects out of the deal. However, I dont know what team is going to pay that kind of money AND give up good prospects. If we do give away Soriano, even if we do sign Fielder or Pujols, I dont know how good of a team wed have.
  20. Exactly. People irrationally hate Soriano because of how much money he makes, so much so to the point that they can't (or refuse to) see that dealing him just to deal him creates yet another hole in the lineup that they would have to fill. Just cut him when he stops being useful. I think a good deal of the hatred of Soriano is completely rational. It's the need to have him gone at all costs that is irrational. A lot of Cubs fans seem to believe that theres no middle ground between superstar and bust.
  21. Wasnt David Price the 1st pick that year? If only the 2006 Cubs could have sucked just a bit more.
  22. Thats what Im saying. As long as he can keep doing what hes done the past 2 years, even if he never gets back to his '07-'08 numbers, which I wouldnt expect him to, Id rather he do it for us, and if he turns to crap when hes 37-38, cut him a check and waive good bye. Even if we do sign Pujols or Fielder, were going to need more bats in the lineup, and we really dont have anyone in the minors capable of Sorianos numbers, at least immediately. Even if we do sign a free agent for say 8-10 mil to put up decent numbers, considering wed still be paying Sori 9 mil, were still paying 17-19 mil for left field.
  23. He was also BA's #1 GM candidate last March. Count me as in. Yeah, Hahn's been pretty well regarded around baseball for a while now. I'd be a big fan of getting him. I definitely like the fact that he grew up a Cubs fan, assuming he hasnt been corrupted by 11 years in the White Sox organization. What Cubs fan wouldnt want to be the guy to end the biggest drought in American sports history. I say American because apparently theres some Soccer or Rugby team somehwhere in Great Britain with something like a 130 year drought.
