  1. I'm not sure how serious a bone spur is, but it sounds like something that might want to be resolved prior to pitching again.
  2. 1st we make the Reds hitting look good. Then we make the Reds bullpen look good. Now we make Jay Bruce's defense look good? What is this world coming to?
  3. In Votto's MLB.com headshot, I can't tell if he's going for threatening or seductive.
  4. http://www.bleachernation.com/2016/06/29/report-yankees-plan-to-move-on-if-cubs-wont-trade-kyle-schwarber-for-andrew-miller/ If that's the case, we move on very quickly. But if they're willing to send us Betances for Schwarber, is that enough to move back? Betances' 3.7 WAR in each of the past 2 seasons is dangerously close to Mariano Rivera territory. And Schwarber's bat is great and all, but assuming that the boat on him as a catcher has sailed and been blown up by that of Willson Contreras, we're looking at a sub replacement level defensive OF. The question is, if both are in the prime of their career, do you trade a poor man's Ryan Braun/richer mans Jay Bruce for Trevor Hoffman with a chance of Mariano Rivera?
  5. Last year, Grimm-Strop-Rondon was as dominant a bullpen end game as any. And once Schlitter and Coke were gone, Wood, Rodney, and Richard eventually rounded out a reliable bridge to get there when needed. The plan heading into the season was Wood-Warren-Grimm-Strop-Rondon, with some combination of Ramirez, Cahill, Richard, and Edwards rounding out a solid pen. But that hasn't quite happened. Strop-Rondon are still doing their thing. Grimm has not. Wood has been decent enough in that spot, but now we have nobody in his or Warren's spots. And until now, we'd been too spoiled by long, dominant SP performances and large leads for it to become evident. Which brings me to my point; is a return to form by Grimm something that can realistically happen? He doesn't seem to have any less velo since last year. Is there some mechanical issue that can be be re-Bosioed?
  6. Do we really need to go all in for a reliever? Wood-Strop-Rondon is an effective end game. What we need is a better bridge to get there in case the SP has a short game, which until recently didn't happen often. I'm not saying we need nothing. Just that we don't necessarily need to go all in for what would be more want than need. I'd be ok giving up something of value for a guy like Doolittle, Miller, or Betances who are under control for a few more years. But in terms of overpaying for rentals, I'd rather overpay for someone like Fernando Rodney than Aroldis Chapman, assuming overpaying for Fernando Rodney costs something along the lines of Zagunis and change while overpaying for Chapman costs at least one of our top tier prospects.
  7. Not gonna lie, I woke up around a quarter to five half expecting to see the Cubs and Reds trudging through the umpteenth inning.
  8. Speaking of A's relievers, Ryan Madson doesn't seem to be falling off just yet. Though he is due over $15mm over the next two years, despite being a 35 year old relief pitcher who dropped off the face of the earth for 4 years.

  10. Throwing a baseball overhand really horsefeathering hard, 100 times a day, 2 days a week.
  11. started by Hazelbaker, who was undoubtedly shouting "I WAS IN THE SHOW' repeatedly during the melee [tweet] [/tweet] But I dare anyone to deny that that was the most gangsta' bat flip ever.
  12. I wonder how sustainable Happ's current AA line is.
  13. Makes sense: potential 2017 opening day depth chart: 1B: Rizzo, Contreras 2B: Zobrist, LaStella, Baez SS: Russell, Baez 3B: KB, LaStella, Baez LF: Schwarber, Soler, KB CF: Almora, Heyward RF: Heyward, Soler C: Contreras, Montero (I guess,) Schwarber P: It won't matter.
  14. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/images/players/head_shot/543424.jpg This guy looks like somebody who has to introduce himself door to door when he moves into a new neighborhood.
  15. Javy must be dipping into Jake's supply now, because...oh, wait. That was supposed to be at my expense.
  16. Back when guys like Doug Davis, Manny Corpas, Scott Hairston, Julio Borbon, Cody Ransom were making their way through the revolving door of bad.
  17. Smith didn't bring up the accusation. Someone else (no clue who) did, and Jake shrugged it off. Then Smith said that whether or not it was true, due to his sudden rise, it wasn't smart to just shrug it off, and Jake pretty much went off on Smith. see, you keep making it sound like there was a specific accusation that started the whole thing No, I think it was a crock of horsefeathers, and it started out by my making what was apparently a bad joke in response to somebody else's bad joke (I think it was intended as a joke) and it spiraled out of control. Now if it's ok with everyone else, I apologize, and I'd like to move on with my evening, which will likely culminate in cursing every member of our bullpen.
  18. This has no business being a close game. horsefeathers everything and trade for the entire Yankees bullpen.
  19. Smith didn't bring up the accusation. Someone else (no clue who) did, and Jake shrugged it off. Then Smith said that whether or not it was true, due to his sudden rise, it wasn't smart to just shrug it off, and Jake pretty much went off on Smith.
  20. I honestly don't believe it in the slightest. But hypothetically, the accusation would absolutely be enough to get somebody to stop. Say less things. So you honestly believe that hypothetically, if a star player who had been accused of PED shut down his accuser in the manner that he did, he would continue to use them? Look, I'm not saying that he did, because I don't think he did, as he always had the strength and the velo. I'm arguing that a guy who was openly accused of usage would be enough to get them to stop.
  21. No, not really. But if these struggles continue much longer, you know that chatter's going to resurface. makes total sense. he got on PEDs to be awesome at baseball, used them for a couple of years, then just decided to stop using them and become bad at baseball again. I honestly don't believe it in the slightest. But hypothetically, the accusation would absolutely be enough to get somebody to stop.
  22. No, not really. But if these struggles continue much longer, you know that chatter's going to resurface. Who cares? I'm preparing myself for the possibility of life after Jake, dammit. Let me have this.
  23. How dare you say what other people are trying to avoid thinking? Whut. No, not really. But if these struggles continue much longer, you know that chatter's going to resurface.
