Heres an idea for fair compensation if they insist on a player: Marlon Byrd. He's not that expensive, not part of our post 2012 plans, and while there would be some interest in him for trade, nothing great. For the Red Sox, he'd be a cheap option for RF, and could platoon with Josh Reddick without doing what they usually do and sign another 10mil/year free agent. While he has no business at the heart of any lineup, when your the Red Sox, he's a great option for 7-8.
