  1. The Phillies only hope may be to drill Carpenter in the elbow with a 95 mph fastball.
  2. Indeed a sad day for out of work failed Cubs prospects.
  3. Has Carpenter even thrown 60 pitches?
  4. My best memory of Yadi is Ted Lilly taking him out and sending him to the DL. I miss being good.
  5. [expletive] you camera man.
  6. If only the Phillies hitters were as well.
  7. I just want what's best for the world. A massive tornado-quake* to hit Miller Park during game 1 of the series. *a hybrid of a tornado and an earthquake.
  8. See I can't agree there. As a Cubs fan, I hate the Cardinals because I'm bred to. However, the rivalries never been as personal for me because I don't know any Cards fans to fan those flames. With The Brewers, on the other hand, I know plenty of those cheese balls, and they have some kind of one sided rivalry with Chicago when it comes to pretty much anything. they already won the last Super Bowl and will probably win the next. They don't deserve that much happiness. Filthy creatures they are. as opposed to this guy... http://cdn.stripersonline.com/4/4e/4e77b7ed_get-a-brain-morans.jpg Yeah, but the poor bastard probably has to go home to a 600 pound wife that barely fits in their trailer, so you have to somewhat feel for him.

  10. They're teams that aren't as good tend to achieve more. And they are on fire right now. So are the Brewers. brewers are a sub .500 team on the road. All you really need to do is steal a game or 2 from them at Miller. Fine, then just flat-out root for the Cardinals, you spineless [expletive]. I'm rooting for the Phillies, but if it comes down to Cardinals/Brewers, I'm rooting for a natural disaster.

  12. If the Phillies lose, they may very well have to thank their own manager for treating last Fridays game like game 7 of the World Series.
  13. Kirk Gibson will forever regret not bunting Hill in the 9th. It's not like the D Backs will make the playoffs again anytime soon.
  14. Just out of curiosity, why the hell wouldn't Gibson have had Hill bunt with guys on 1st and 2nd and 0 out? That could prove quite fatal.
  15. I thought that it was an unwritten rule that teams with Willie Bloomquist in their starting lineup were banned from the playoffs no matter their record.
  16. Maybe Ricketts requested permission to speak with both. That could be the big holdup. Either: A. Epstein comes to the Cubs, Cherington Boston GM B. Epstein extended as GM, Cherington to Cubs C. Epstein promoted to higher poition with Boston, Cherington Bostons GM, Ricketts to plan C Option C seems unlikely, imo. What would happen with Lucchino? Hopefully you're right. What it comes down to is that if the do extend Epstein as GM, theres little incentive for Cherington not to accept an offer from Ricketts. Similarly, if they want Ricketts to stay on the last year of his existing contract without an extension, he'd likely prefer go with Ricketts if he's willing to offer him a long term deal.
  17. This is because it is the opinion of people around the game, likely other teams execs and such. I highly doubt that any of them are in contact with Henry or Ricketts at this time. It's all opinions.
  18. Of course, you realize, that will not stop us from doing so. Largely because most of us have nothing better to do. Welcome to the world of people on an internet message board.

  20. From all indications, Ricketts is prepared to offer Theo the moon to come here. Not only that, Henry said he would not grant permission to the Cubs if it were a lateral move. right, but I guess I missed the part where Boston actually gave Ricketts permission to talk to him. If they were told no, we would have found out by now. I don't know if that's quite true, but I think that there could be a lot more going on. They could be discussing both Epstein and Cherington. Like I said, unless they move Epstein to a higher ofice and give Cherington their GM job, there's no reason that they would extend Theo as GM and not let Cherington pursue the GM job with us. This is a huge opportunity, esepcially for a first time GM, and if Epstein doesn't get it and keeps the GM job, Cherington must have some interest.
  21. http://articles.latimes.com/2011/jun/19/sports/la-sp-crowes-nest-20110620 Are the White Sox sending compensation? They offered Adam Dunn and Alex Rios but they refused.
  22. My worry about no news is that they're working on a Theo extension in Boston. So if they do extend Theo, and it's not to a higher role, then doesn't that make Cherington the top candidate? If they do extend Theo, and Ben is then offered a GM job with The Cubs, I doubt they's have a problem with letting him come over.
  23. Oh [expletive] it, let's just get Cherington.
  24. You're just noticing this?
