  1. The Red Sox initially asked for Cubs starting pitcher Matt Garza, and at one point proposed the Cubs take pitcher John Lackey's contract as part of the compensation, according to a major league source. Lackey has three seasons remaining on a five-year, $82.5 million contract. He was 12-12 with a 6.41 ERA in 28 starts for the Red Sox in 2011. But the expected agreement will include Cubs minor leaguers, although not top prospects Brett Jackson, Trey McNutt and Matt Szczur, the source said. Cash will not be part of the compensation. I know this thread monster is difficult to dig through, but somewhere along the way after that was posted, they say McNutt may well be a part of it.
  2. McNutt will sting, but if we can get continued progress from Rhee, Struck, and or course a comeback from Whitenack, it will sting a lot less. I'm not saying we should have to give him up, but I guess if that what it takes for a guy who can architect us into the kind of team a big market, big money team should be, so be it. Not happy about it though, but whatever. It's not like he's Strasburg.
  3. You mean the deal that isnt supposed to be announced until tonight or tomorrow and they probably dont want the media breaking it sooner?
  4. But he has about 46 mil remaining on his contract. How much of that does it make sense for us to pay for him to pitch for the Padres? For that kind of money, we should let them have McNutt and sign a starter who's already at his ceiling.
  5. Cagney will not be pleased.
  6. I live in the northern suburbs.
  7. Yes. That's a weird thing. You are weird. Why? You'd have to ask yourself that. You just are. But there's only a 37% chance of it.
  8. Aside from some of this years picks, who they couldn't take anyway, there's nobody else I'd really be devestated over losing. I don't think we should have to give up any top guys but if that's what it takes, so be it. He didn't mention Vitters though. Beliveau either.
  9. Yes. That's a weird thing. You are weird. Why? It's been pretty much a given for a few weeks that Theo was coming and that Hoyer or Byrnes for a few days. What hasn't been clear is what we'll be sending over.
  10. Am I the only one who's far more interested in learning the compensation than with hearing and reading media guys differently wording what we've know for several days?
  11. Speculation or supposed rumor? Bigggggg difference. Message board speculation = a b2b trade proposal Supposed rumor = big bird B2Bs eyes just shot wide open and he burst out of bed not knowing why. In all seriousness, if we were to absorb most of Lackeys contract, I'd just as soon see what he can do for us. Would taking on 45+ mil for a guy who won't pitch for us really be a better option than giving them McNutt and a lower level guy? I'm going to say no on that.
  12. holy [expletive], this is an embarrassing article, even for that guy Might be the most clueless article I've ever seen by any sports writer....EVER! http://thechive.files.wordpress.com/2010/05/haters-gonna-hate-2.jpg?w=500&h=642
  13. Assuming the deals done and the paperworks signed, sealed, and deleivered, why would they have to wait until they make the announcement before they get to work on the planning?
  14. I'll take Lauras word for it. Unless Kyle changes his post to something I want to hear.
  15. Meh. I certainly dont want Ryno, though not as passionately against him as many people here. However, if we're going to accept Theo and his team as our lord and savior and his deciples and kiss the ground that he walks on, we should probably assume that he just might know a thing or two that we don't. Can't orgasm over the guy coming over(no pun intended) do to his track record and then blast his first move. I'm not saying that it's for sure going to happen (The Sandberg part) but if it does that's my take.
  16. Somebody becoming the owner of the Chicago Cubs is pretty big [expletive] news, man. But not the kind that would have made the World Series take a back seat. Maybe if it had been Mark Cuban, that would have been that type of a story. Besides, the 2009 Series was Phillies/Yankees and didn't have to worry about Laverne & Shirley re-runs on TV Land beating it in the ratings.
  17. The Cardinals are probably going to win the World Series, and I couldn't care less. Enjoy, were coming for you. It might take a few years, but the division...nay...the league will be ours.
  18. Are they really going to let the Cubs announce this tomorrow? I doubt it. Ricketts was introduced as the chairman of the Cubs on October 31, 2009. Same day as Game 3 of the World Series. Nobody outside of Chicago knew who the hell Ricketts was. To most, He was basically just another billiomaire buying a sports team. This is huge. Epstein is one of the most well known, recognizeable, and highly regarded non player personel in the game.
  19. With the announcement likely coming by the weekend at the latest, lets make a little game out of it. plain ad simple post who/what you think the compensation will be. No explanations, no dicsussions. Go! My picks: Jeff Baker, Jay Jackson, and Marwin Gonzalez to Boston, cash to San Diego.
  20. Any relation to Richard?
  21. Are they really going to let the Cubs announce this tomorrow? I doubt it. Under the condition that it has to be announced during the series, in hopes that people outside of St. Louis and Texas might actually watch it.
  22. Their '06 team was pretty bad. Can't leave the '05 White Sox out of that discussion either.
  23. I feel that the battle hymn of the republic should be playing in the background.
  24. Very cool thanks for the video. Lake looks/reminds me a lot of Castro at the plate seeing that video. Everything from his stance and swing all the way to his body type. I don't know, he kind of makes Castro look like Steroid Era Barry Bonds.
  25. I like our fanboy owner more and more every tweet.
