    No kidding. Well yeah. When your main objective is winning as many games as possible. Sadly, it appears as though that will not be our objective so much as continuing to stock the farm system. So who's the odd man out? Jackson: would like to see him heat up. He's also not as likely to be on an inning count. Wood: he's been out best pitcher so far. Certainly don't want him to lose momentum, and would be nice to see how long he keeps it up, and if not, how far he'd fall. Feldman: the only reason for him to be removed from the rotation is if he's traded when decision time comes. As of now, nobody's going to be fooled into giving up anything of value for him. Give him another month or 2 and we just might. If he falls off a cliff, all we lose is the pair of fringe prospects we'd likely receive if we traded him now. Villanueva: sure, he could be moved to the pen. That not only hurts his trade value, but if the plan is to keep him I'd prefer see what happens if he finally gets a full season as a starter. This leaves our best pitcher. If between now and when Garza returns, we somehow resemble a fringe contender, obviously you want him on the mound. If not, then let him take a break. If he's on a leash as far as innings, why not now instead of August?

    Yes. Why? When Garza returns, someone's going to be booted from the rotation spot. It shouldn't be one of the guys we could be showcasing for trade value. Shark clearly still has the stuff he's had all along, but he's been wilder his past few starts. Seems to be more mental than physical. Maybe it has something to due with frustration over lack of run support.

    Would it be the worst thing in the world for Shark to develop a minor "injury" just in time for Garza's return, thus allowing both Villanueva and Feldman to remain in the rotation building trade value, and heel up once one of the three is traded? I figure if social anxiety disorder is a legit reason to use the DL, why not mental break?

    I figure he may wind up getting some major league time, just not for us. If he could manage to take at least a bi-annual BB, I'd feel a lot better about him.

    David DeJesus is 32 with a 6.5MM team option for 2014. Nate Schierholtz is 29 and arb eligible in 2014 and a free in 2015. I can't see us resigning a 31 year old Schierholtz in 2015, and I can't see DeJesus falling off a cliff in 2014. Assuming that neither are in the post-2014 plan, as of now, could Schierholtz generate a better return than DeJesus and then pick up DeJesus' 2014 option?

    I don't know how quick the Royals will be to come out of any of their pitching prospects. Even if Ervin Santana's not an injury waiting to happen, he's a free agent after this season, as is James Shields. Starting Pitching's been a problem of theirs for a few years now, so in order to give up one of their top pitching prospects, they'd likely want a big league starter with a few years of team control. At this point, I'm not sure I'd give up Wood without more of a sure thing in return, but they might bite if we offered them DeJesus and DeJesus for a prospect package including Ventura.

    We'll likely receive something similar to what we sent the Padres for Hoyer. And how did we find a taker for this non-descript, noodle bat middle infielder but we can't pay anyone to take Ian Stewart.

    Is there any intel on John Andreoli? He's been putting up a pretty strong slash line since last year. The power just isn't there. It would be easy to lump him with Tony Campana or Sam Fuld if it weren't for the fact that he's 6'1 215 lbs.

    Like Davell said, being part of the core doesn't make you untouchable, you are just a major part of the teams success and should either cost a ton to acquire or be someone of value to your team as a player or trade chip. Call it what you want, but that bunch of players under team control that helps you win games is what we should be aiming for. As of now, we have Castro, Rizzo, Samardzjia, Castillo, Barney, Schierholtz, Valbuena, Wood, Edwin Jackson, and Russell fitting that description to one degree or another. It's certainly the start to a strong core group of players under team control that can help us win games. If we could add Stanton to that equation, I'd feel incredibly good about this group going forward. Especially if we could extend Shark and add another front-mid rotation pitcher somehow. Could be our upcoming draft pick.

    3rd baseman throughout the organization have simply given up on themselves due to the greatness that is Luis Valbuena.

    I Cubs going against one time top prospect Chris Volstad. And Brett Jackson's back. Grounded into a fielders choice in his first AB. Better than a swinging K.

    Chase Headley would be a great addition to any team. We'd surely plug him right into the 3 hole. His position and that he's a switch hitter certainly adds a lot to his value. On the other hand Giancarlo Stanton and Anthony Rizzo could potentially be the one of the premier 3-4 combo in baseball for years to come. If there's any chance of acquiring Stanton, I'd much rather hang on the assets it would take Headley in hopes of doing so. Headley: potentially great. Stanton; potentially once in a life time. If we have to start with Soler, so be it. In the most perfect of worlds, Soler becomes something resembling Stanton.
