  1. Candelerio ended up 4-5, all singles. Giosker Amaya had 2 doubles. Nice to see those two putting something together.
  2. They're going to win the division and we're not a playoff team. Probably best to not worry about their latest collection of superstars until it comes time to root against them in October. A lot of those superstars will still be around by then, along with Oscar Tavares, Shelby Miller, Carlos Martinez, and a bunch of guys we don't even know exist yet.
  3. Apparently the guys in charge of making those decisions agreed with me, so I was in good company. With Raley, I never thought him to be anything special; just a guy who deserved a chance toward the end of the season while we were shoving Coleman, Lopez, Germano, and whomever else they could dig up through a revolving door and calling it a pitching staff. And even the greatest of skeptics we're beginning to be fooled by LaHair for a while there.
  4. No, but if the need for a reliever arrises, that's justification. Especially if these guys are putting up impressive numbers and will be minor league free agents again after the season, which I'm assuming they will be. Isn't that the purpose behind signing minor league free agents, especially those that were once fairly well thought of as prospects? I know that Mosocoro was once a somewhat well regarded prospect.
  5. Any chance that Dunston or Baez make their way to Kane County or will they start at Boise? And where is Michael Jensen?
  6. To me, it's about trying something new. We pretty much know what we have in Raley and Rusin. We don't know what we have in the other three. Especially if it's September and we're in the position we've been the past 3 Septembers, I'd rather take a look at the new guys. And if it results in us losing all 5, they're all very replaceable. Even in the immediate future , if Camp keeps sucking we should cut him and try Negrin or Mosocoro rather than one of the same guys we bring up over and over. Of our AAA relievers, the only one that could really be more than just a guy at best is Dolis, and even with him, I'm starting to doubt that he'll ever get his command down. Another one I'd be interested in leapfrogging is Rosscup; though I'd also be interested in stretching him back into a starter.
  7. Maybe Castillo should get to AA first. Or leapfrog to AAA. Wouldn't he be a minor league FA again next year? At 24, he's probably more polished than a lot of the guys that are given a shot via the Rule 5. Negrin and Mosocoro would be in line ahead of him, but my point is that next time we need a reliever called up, we should take a look at one of these guys rather than have Coleman or Dolis rack up another set of frequent flyer miles. Who would you like to drop from the 40-man roster? I think there's an extra spot or 2. If not; or even if there is, 1. Camp 2. Rusin 3. Raley 4. McNutt
  8. Maybe Castillo should get to AA first. Or leapfrog to AAA. Wouldn't he be a minor league FA again next year? 9. Camp should be the obvious choice. At least with Marmol, he has a shot at building trade value. Camp's just a pumpkin that had a bit of magic left, but has long since been drained. The move certainly conflicts with Epstein's MO.
  10. Right now, we're 18-25. We've had 10 blown saves, or fall from ahead L's. of the 10, 3 stand out as games we should have won; 4/6 vs. Atlanta, 4/14 vs. San Fran, and 4/22 vs. Cincy. Give us those and we're 21-22.
  11. Even I don't get this POV. Marmol is a terrible relief pitcher. This is a one-run game late. Don't use terrible relievers in one-run situations. It was a bad call despite working. Maybe I'm forgetting a few, but ever since losing the closer role, Marmol's been fairly decent with the exception of that game vs. Cincy a few weeks back.
  12. Yoanir Negrin pitched 4 innings of relief with 0/4 BB/K. Between him, Mosocoro, and Yeiper Castillo, we've got an intriguing batch of minor league free agent pitchers. I'd be interested in seeing any of them in the big league pen.
  13. please don't be some stupid not running hard thing again. well, if it's that, please don't let the manager be an [expletive] and talk to the local papers and chicago radio about it. He was pulled defensively to start the bottom of the 6th after popping out in the top of the 6th. So...He likely either hurt himself on that swing or didn't run it out after he popped it up. My money is on the latter. I don't suppose it was because he's spearheading a package for Giancarlo Stanton?
  14. Yesssss. Stewart is a poopyhead and Vitters has a quad strain. And Brent Lillibridge is Brent Lillibridge, still making him the least desireable option.
  15. Using ERA as the pitcher's tell all stat that it one was, no, Travis Wood is not a sub 2.00 pitcher. Still, there's more than luck to it. Luck doesn't take 4 middling at best pitchers and transform them into studs. I expect that once the smoke clears, Travis Wood will be the type of pitcher that your average big league team would love as their 3 starter.
  16. There will be a baseball game today in just over an hour. I think that the Chicago club will emerge victorious.
  17. Hopefully the NL will add two DH spots, one for the pitcher and one for Darwin Barney. Then we could use both Vogelbach and Shoulders. Maybe a 3rd one for Geiger. Or maybe replace 3 relivers with bench bats; does it matter if there are 3 guys blowing 1 inning or 1 guy blowing 3 innings?
  18. While he might not fall into the relevant catogory, Yeiper Castillo is 24 at A+ with 4/27 BB/K with a 2.33 ERA. 2nd season off shoulder surgery. Could be time to see if he can do something similar at AA. Similarly, I can't help but notice that while Rafael Dolis keeps racking up frequent flyer miles and the Iowa BP regulars seem to be whipping baseballs toward home plate with reckless abandon, two more minor league free agent signings seem to be doing very well for themselves; Yoanir Negrin 23.2 IP 7/31 BB/K, 2.66 ERA 1.44 WHIP Guillermo Moscoso 21 IP 5/24 BB/K 2.14 ERA 1.29 WHIP Moscoso's been a starter. While I can't see him as a starter for the big league club, I'd be interested in seeing either of these two called up as relievers next time the need arrises.
  19. You're just doing this to torture me, right? I really thought we had a chance to get him in last year's draft after he fell past the first two. Buxton or buxt. You can blame the 2011 Cubs deciding to play above .500 for no good reason in the final two months of the season for that.
  20. Hopefully he wasn't referring to Dillon Maples. If so, boo to Mr. Law on that.
  21. So who gets the boot then? If Bowden has any options left, he'd be the obvious choice. Rodon hasn't done himself any favors, but the Rule 5 status will likely keep him around. Then again, we could always make a deal to keep him. Camp or Marmol could be trade candidates. Detroit for one is actively pursuing pen help.
  22. Does Pierce Johnson have a shot at any mid-season Top 100 lists?
  23. The oft forgotten upper levels add to the weekends offensive outburst. Torreyes 2-4 with a 2B, Szczur 3-4 with a 2B, Villanueva 1-4. Even Ian Strwart is 2-2 with a 2B; is that his first multi hit game of the season?
  24. Assuming he manages to avoid any felonious assaults, I'd think so.
  25. I'm I the only one thinking in terms of extending Feldman and Garza at a reasonable price? I'm really liking the idea of a few more years Garza/Smardz/Wood/Jackson/Feldman with a consistent offense backing them while we wait on the kids to grow up.
