  1. This might shed some light.
  2. I think a player can quote scripture without being Billy Sunday.
  3. Sounds to me like a kid eager to get started but momentarily forgot that his agent told him not to sound as such.
  4. 6-7 years worth of the SSS numbers he's put up for the Pirates this year.
  5. I know that it's something to file under easier said than done, but if we were to pool as many of our tradeable assets as possible toward Price, we'd have Price, Smardz, Wood, and E Jax as a very nice 1-4. Even if Vizcaino were to emerge as a starter, it's likely not until 2015, so we pencil in Villanueva at the 5 spot, but also sign a few Maholms and Feldmans to minor league deals or low risk big league deals, and we have a very nice rotation.
  6. At the right price; say 12MM, 15MM max. We need someone in the OF until Soler and Almora are ready. Beyond Ellsbury, the FA market doesn't offer much, and now that we've drafted Bryant over pitching, a pick that I do like, I'd prefer use our trade chips toward pitching. And at 3-5MM/year, even if he does end up a platoon guy, he's on the right side of the platoon and should be very tradable if one of the internal options proves ready to take over.
  7. We'd all prefer silence over an obnoxious MSPaint response. I like Sweeney. He has a good pedigree and skillset, and he's proving useful as a LH reserve OF. You can also say similar things about Borbon, and even if DeJesus is traded there's only really playing time for one of them. The biggest problem is that Sweeney is a free agent after this season, while Borbon has quite a bit of team control remaining. If the FO have a good enough relationship with Sweeney to bring him back they should do it, but I'm apprehensive about giving Sweeney PAs at Borbon's expense in the instance we've traded off DeJesus unless they were really certain he were going to be around in 2014 and possibly beyond. Borbon just seems like an all or nothing player. Either he manages to get on base at a respectable clip and he becomes a lead off hitter ala a lower middle class man's Michael Bourn or he doesn't and he's a spare set of legs for a new team every September until they give out. Sweeney seems like a pretty safe bet to be at least a Reed Johnson. I'd be very intersted in extending him at the right price for 2-3 years to bridge the gap between now and when Almora and Soler are ready.
  8. Not familiar with Tyler Bremmer, but have to love the 3/27 BB/K in 27 IP.
  9. I said start shopping him. Never said rush him just because. If there are teams in search of a SP now, the market is thin. By July, who knows what could be available. Just saying that it couldn't hurt to send some feelers out to contenders with either injured pitchers or lack of rotation depth.
  10. As of now, Ryan Sweeney has a line of .357/.426/.521. Obviously, it's going to take a lot more than 42 ABs to escape the LaFoxPauir stigma, but as I said while he was raking away in Iowa, he has the past big league success and versatility as well as being a one time top prospect to separate him from three large men who put a charge into the ball when they happened to make contact. And off hand, in around the same SSS, does anyone have an idea how the other three matched up with Sweeney when first called up? I'm most interested in the OBP. I don't expect him to sustain the monster SSS numbers he's put up, but is anyone else beginning to entertain the thought that he could perhaps get back to the type of numbers he had with Oakland in 2008-2010, even if as a 4th/platoon OF? Maybe even a slight boost in OBP and/or slugging to push his OPS into the .800 neighnorhood. He should certainly get the chance if/when DeJesus is traded.
  11. Personally, I think we should start shopping Feldman ASAP, before other options start to become available. As of now, the competition is Rickey Nolasco, who's having a nice seasons and has a better past track record than Feldman. Right now we have Villanueva as a ready set replacement as well as Scott Baker, who is doing something somewhere. I'll assume, so if we were to somehow weasel into contention, we'd have in house replacements and no lt have to hunt down the next Rodrigo Lopez.
  12. The Brewers are 15.5 games back with a .379 WP. They may well do that regardless. However, Ramirez, Weeks, and Lohse are each come with significant salaries and red flags. The Brewer's will likely have to decide between eating large chunks of their salaries or accepting lesser returns.
  13. On the off chance that these games happen, between them and the draft it's going to be an eventful night of following things on phone while while tag teaming between feeding the baby and keeping the toddler occupied.
  14. Paul Sullivan ‏@PWSullivan 11m Junior Lake to make debut at Triple-A Iowa on Thursday. Will play third and center. Ian Stewart? Still there. I hope not. For his sake. The need to give this kid his walking paper if he's going to have some shot at a somewhat meaningful season. Surely they can do so in a way which allows both sides to save face. A year or so in Japan shouldn't be out of the question.
  15. My thinking is that prior busts are included on the list. So with Cabrera, he served his 50 games; assuming that the offense in question is the one that he was previously suspended for, I can't imagine that the players union would allow MLB to give him double jeopardy. As for Braun, his case is more complicated; on one hand, if this is the same offense that he was already given a suspension, appealed, and won, if MLB re-opens it that too would be double jeopardy. Even if it is re-opened, and MLB aggressively pursues a 100 game suspension, the players association could be extra protective of him due to the sentiment that MLB's coming down on him extra hard as an act of vengence to save face after allowing him to slip through their fingers last time, thus making their system look bad.
  16. I sell, but not fire sale; Definitely move Feldman, especially if he can somewhat maintain his success. We have Villanueva to take his spot, and Baker is hopefully ready, or else it was $5MM down the toilet. I entertain offers for Gregg, DeJesus, Schierholtz, and Soriano, but without urgency to rush them out of town. The tricky situation is Garza; on one hand, he's our #1 starter; no offense to Smardz. If you're contending, you don't trade your ace. On the other hand, if we have no hope of re-signing him, he's a chip that you almost have to cash in; unless we'd end up with a top draft pick for him. Even then, teams could be offering far more valuable packages for a few months of his services. And if win now and later guys like Price and Stanton are on the block, I definitely get in on the bidding.
  17. Not sure if this is somewhere in this thread, but it's my first time seeing it; Ryan Braun's Feb. 2012 after winning his appeal. Starts off standard enough before spiriling into a self important sea of douchiness. http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=kPKurzzwGxg&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DkPKurzzwGxg
  18. Some other recent offenders believed to be on the list are Melky Cabrera, Bartolo Colon, and Nelson Cruz. In opportunistic news, the A's may soon need an SP and the Rangers an OF/DH type.
  19. In Tenn, Szczur 3-3 with a GRD, Torreyes with an HR, Alcantara with a 2B, and Villanueva with 2 BB.
  20. Braun will get off. Who won't? A bunch of guys whose last names end in Z.
  21. In 19.2 IP since being demoted, Takahashi has a 2.45 ERA 0.95 WHIP with 6/20 BB/K. I know he's a lefty, so he couldn't possibly anything more than a LOOGY, but maybe if they want to take a break from having Iowa relievers draw straws they can give him another shot.
  22. I'd forgotten about Weathers. Mercifully. The last thing we need is a poorer mans Marmol. And I'd just assumed that Gutierrez was let go after ST. Was somewhat intrigued by him, so good to see.
  23. I've seen "AA" a few times here of late, are we talking Almora or Alcantara? A.Al. That's what I was thinking. I think I was the first one guilty of it today, but Almora was spelled out at #4 when I posted AA at #6 in a list of prospect rankings. Yeah, Almora's my AA; didn't even think in terms of Alcantara. Not a nickname so much as an abbreviation.
  24. Those guys give me a confused smirk. Soler gets maybe a leering grin, but my boners are reserved for .900+ OPSes. This is a very disturbing way to grade young men. Get with the program. Next year, BA changes their system to Nice Personality to Hope You Brought a Spare Set of Underpants.
