Unless the injury coincides with an excellent season while healthy otherwise, I think both of these scenarios at least give you clarity in knowing you cannot count on Fields to be the guy. You’d have to at least look into bringing in competition for the starting job on 2024 and at least be prepared to move on after that season.
this past years results left a lot of questions unanswered, but the extenuating circumstances that existed this year won’t exist next year.
2022: The GM tanked. The system was new. The line was unaddressed. The skill positions were bottom of barrel.
2023: They aren’t tanking, at least in terms of trying to score. It’s the second season with the offense. The line has been addressed with free agent and first round talent. The skill positions have been thoroughly, if not massively, upgraded.
