there are 13 games scheduled that day, so 4 teams have off. 6 teams have off on July 4. The Reds are one of those teams, so it's a possible makeup date for earlier games (Cubs/Reds have 9 games schedule prior to 7/4). The CWS and Cleveland also don't play, and the Cubs have three scheduled games vs CWS earlier. My guess is Friday of holiday weekends are generally low attendance/ratings. I know I wouldn't be watching a Cubs game that day. I'll be at the beach. Do something enjoyable. I get all of that, except Fridays are the most expensive ticket of the week in MLB (another thing that sucks about the Cubs never having Friday night games - especially back when their revenues were so driven by ticket sales). A Friday in the middle of the summer on an extended weekend... Seems pretty dumb to not be selling tickets. But, hey, the Cubs don’t get any off days in September. Yeah, most Fridays are key dates. But the Cubs and White Sox would not have accepted a day off on this day if holiday weekend Fridays were expected to be as good of a turnout/ratings.
