  1. he's a little over enthusiastic about David Bote's playing time, but I'm not sure this response is necessary
  2. He's already down to 750 OPS against RHP for the season and pretty weak overall in the second half while Murphy is 830 vs RHP and scorching hot in the second half. I don't think they'll be riding the Bote train over Murphy much at all. That's kind of why they got him.
  3. there are 13 games scheduled that day, so 4 teams have off. 6 teams have off on July 4. The Reds are one of those teams, so it's a possible makeup date for earlier games (Cubs/Reds have 9 games schedule prior to 7/4). The CWS and Cleveland also don't play, and the Cubs have three scheduled games vs CWS earlier. My guess is Friday of holiday weekends are generally low attendance/ratings. I know I wouldn't be watching a Cubs game that day. I'll be at the beach. Do something enjoyable. I get all of that, except Fridays are the most expensive ticket of the week in MLB (another thing that sucks about the Cubs never having Friday night games - especially back when their revenues were so driven by ticket sales). A Friday in the middle of the summer on an extended weekend... Seems pretty dumb to not be selling tickets. But, hey, the Cubs don’t get any off days in September. Yeah, most Fridays are key dates. But the Cubs and White Sox would not have accepted a day off on this day if holiday weekend Fridays were expected to be as good of a turnout/ratings.
  4. I think he starts until Bryant returns (assuming Bryant is not actually dead). Then, I think Bote starts ahead of him, unless or until Bote is found out to not be an actual god. I don't think there will be many games with a righty on the mound and Bote starting with Murphy sitting.
  5. Anthony Rizzo has batted leadoff in 28 games this year.

  7. Plus a Friday "just in case it rains" off day in freaking Texas, which makes no sense at all. Doubt we've ever had 2 scheduled Friday off days. The average precipitation in Arlington, Texas in March/April is 3.66/3/15 The average precipitation in Chicago, Illinois in March/April is 2.72/3.62
  8. the fewer April games in Wrigley, the better.
  9. [tweet] [/tweet]
  10. Murphy's preachers
  11. Darvish and Bryant are doubtful, but they still have to play the games. [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet]
  12. Good thing Murphy is here to bat at the top of the lineup tonight with a LHP on the mound, against whom he's hit .250/.288/.333 this season.
  13. Wait, hold up. The thought is Murphy won't play 2B? Where will he play?
  14. everybody knew he was going to be out for the season after he, you know, pulled himself from his first rehab start.
  15. it's going to be pretty badass when the Cubs get to add Yu Darvish to the lineup at the deadline in 2020. It's going to be like making a trade without giving up anything in return
  16. murphy isn't into that sort of thing How does Wally act as the verb here? Doesn't make sense. We should try to be grammatically correct in our vastly overplayed and no longer funny jokes. pipp is the verb wally just means they'd pipp up against a wall.
  17. he doesnt want daniel murphy to wally pipp him murphy isn't into that sort of thing
  18. it was scheduled for 2pm today but he pulled himself from the machine 5 minutes in.
  19. Yeah, but the fact that Murphy spoke publicly about it and potentially made it harder on closet gay teammates (not to mention gay fans) puts him in a different class of awful. I’m not sure what I’m missing here. The remarks linked suggested that while he has different viewpoints he saw value “investing relationally” with people he disagrees with. That doesn’t sound homophobic at all. Quite the opposite. Totally different mindset than Hader and others. There aren't viewpoints to have. He said he disagreed with the lifestyle. A) It's not a lifestyle B) There is nothing to agree or disagree to It's how bigots used to soft touch their bigotry. Nowadays most of 'em don't even think you need to bother hiding it.
  20. Yeah, but the fact that Murphy spoke publicly about it and potentially made it harder on closet gay teammates (not to mention gay fans) puts him in a different class of awful. Yeah, I don't have high hopes for many of these guys, but he vocalized, and thus proved beyond any doubt, that he's a POS. And he did this pre-Trump. People who are willing to say bad things often believe even worse things.
  21. I must have missed this "favorable situation" that the Cubs found themselves in back in 2011. the team pre-tanked
