  1. I mean... it likely is. The Loria-era Marlins -- one of the stingiest organizations in pro sports -- had their financials leaked several years ago and they were actually cash flow negative for many seasons. Of note, ticket revenues were ~$22m on 1.5m attendance and baseball team payroll was ~$45m (lol). Even if you were to triple attendance, it doesn't get to an enormous team payroll on its own. You're talking about the Marlins, that can't get people in the door for $5 and don't get 10,000 people to watch on TV. This isn't the Cubs. As for your other point, Guggenheim did buy the Dodgers and paid a lot.
  2. and they can't even make money off that hotel
  3. defensive men have been a problem in this country long before 2014
  4. Wait, the trade deadline hasn't passed yet? They still have 20 games to get back to the top of the lottery.
  5. people are astonishingly dumb i'm not saying it's a bad idea for the upper echelon teams to add premier free agents, but it confuses the hell out of me how the media and fan consensus seems to be that it makes more sense for those teams to add the high end guys than the teams on the fringe... like HMM who stands to benefit more from adding 4-5 wins to their projection? a couple chatty cathys on the ferry this morning were talking about it, and all I heard was "I don't get it" and "there goes the collusion idea". I had to turn up my tunes to block them out.

  7. When they offered him candy ones he declined knowing full well they weren’t real.
  8. $20 to the first beat writer to ask Jon when stopped beating his FIP if this season falls apart.
  9. The first three paragraphs suggest the 4th is actually quite optimistic.
  10. Who is surprised?
  11. yeah, the cash isn't going to the Cubs.
  12. That all depends on negotiations, but most likely the majority of chicago area folks will get this on their normal cable package, or whatever tier they need to get CSN and the cable company will include the fee into the bill.
  13. Hey don't forget MLB donating to Cindy-Hyde Smith!
  14. Another new change in stance for heyward? This one is the wildest yet.
  15. in response to joe's "own it now" slogan
  16. he looks like chris sale's shedded skin
  17. history's greatest monster
  18. The number of very good pitchers who hit arbitration and don't end up making 40+ million is...substantial. Pitching is fleeting, take the money. So if Nola is the benchmark, what's a Hendricks extension look like? $3M signing bonus, $9M in '20, $12 M in '21, $12 M in '22, $15M option in '23 with a $4M buyout? He's a free agent in '21, so how would you propose convincing him to take $12m in both 21 and 22 and lock into a 15m option in '23?
  19. account suspended
  20. I seem to remember that was a popular opinion of him for some dumb reason or another too. Weren't there actual NFL teams that asked him to take snaps at WR? but a WR taking snaps is technically a QB
