  1. The Luxury Tax is so fun. Owners insist on these punishments for crossing an arbitrary threshold, and now that those punishments are in place the owners cry "what are we supposed to do in the face of these harsh punishments??" Last year's payroll ended at ~240, with the highest LT level starting at 246. This year's limit is 248, so I'd imagine flat-ish means they probably can do 240 to start the year and have a little breathing room for the trade deadline. Where does the money from the luxury tax go? The Cardinals
  2. flat-ish payroll with expanding revenues is just wonderful
  3. this front office and coaching staff is almost exclusively mayo boys, they need some diversification
  4. unless there's some kind of scandal behind her departure
  5. somehow, this dumbass team is again a favorite to win. (-3) how? anyway, they resigned bradley sowell for the 15th time this season
  6. He's shell shocked and confused as hell. His decision making is so slow that by the time he'd be ready to run, he's already been sacked.
  7. I had absolutely zero faith in Mitch this summer and I have to say, he has rewarded me in ways I never would have imagined. Just so much worse than my worst worries.
  8. People I know handed out 1,250 pieces of candy tonight and had to resort to pretzel snack packs for soccer for end of night. I think that’s acceptable.
  9. they are making moves
  10. I am screaming up the list. Seems I was around 50000 a year or 2 ago. I moved from 26365 in June to 26364 today.
  11. what a horsefeathering meatball
  12. So teams should sign and trade for great players and give big contracts to the ones they draft? Yup. But in the meantime most (domestic) superstars stars go in the top 10 picks, so teams at the bottom of the standings are going to get first crack at them. And most of them are going to fail miserably and most of those teams are going to keep picking there year after year and sucking.
  13. Gerrit Cole, Stephen Strasburg, and Carlos Correa were all #1 overall picks. Verlander and Bregman were #2's, while Greinke and Rendon were both 6th in their respective years. Max Scherzer and George Springer were #11's (Springer in probably the best draft class of this century), and Trea Turner 13th in his year. The merits of tanking can be debated, but this series does not make the argument you seem to think it does. So teams should sign and trade for great players and give big contracts to the ones they draft?
  14. How so? Brent Seabrook is one of the least consequential players on the team. He's bad at hockey. He is going to be shuffled aside at some point during this contract, it's just a matter of when and how. Why would he be the linchpin of the team?
  15. Philly is favored by 5. The last time Chicago visited I was "gifted" free tix that I had no interest in using, as the Bears were predictably trounced by a very good Eagles team. This version of the Eagles isn't that good, but they are good enough that this game is pretty close to a gimme.
  16. well, yes, actually it is pretty close to a gimme. the 80% is fgs from 40-49 yards. clearly a 41 yarder is easier to hit then a 49 yarder and if 80% is the average overall, I'll stick my neck out ans say a 41 yard fg in the nfl is pretty damn close to a gimme. 39-44 is 77% this season 80% means 1 out of every 5 misses, which means it is not a gimme. Those kicks are missed every week. There is a reason extra points were moved back, because those are not gimmes.
  17. a 41 yard fg kick should be placed left, center or right in the NFL and be pretty close to a gimme, so Pineiro can kiss my ass. That doesn't excuse Nagy, he's an idiot for not trying for more with that much time left, but it sounds like Pineiro is just saying horsefeathers to provide cover for himself. A 41 yard FG is in no way shape or form a gimme.
  18. Why would he not start? It's not like Chase Daniel is any good. Jersey already answered for me, but frankly, I'm done with the Trubisky era. I'm not a fan of tanking the entire season. The only problem I see with this team outside of play calling is QB. They have a 24 hour window to improve the QB situation, and already announcing before the deadline passes that Trubisky is starting next week tells me they aren't going to address the problem. Well, trading for somebody would probably be something they regret. But even if they were going to trade for somebody, it makes no sense for Nagy to say anything other than Mitch is starting Sunday. It's not like making that announcement today forces them to stock to that decision when the time actually comes.
  19. Why would he not start? It's not like Chase Daniel is any good. trade deadline is 24 hours away
  20. As long as they do not pick up the option year, or god forbid, extend him, I do not care what they do with him next season. I don't want them spending $100m on some journeyman nobody who happens to be a hot free agent. Go ahead and make him play for all I care.
