  1. Does he do that Horatio Caine sunglass readjustment thing often? It was so dramatic when he put them back on.
  2. was our deadline the same as mlb's? i'd trade anybody, this league is boring.
  3. The only thing I can blame them for is apparently not being open to letting him start in GB. But you are dead on in that they have absolutely no reason to let him dictate where he goes. He signed a contract, and retired. His fate is up to the team.
  4. Tyler Colvin ends July with a line of .236/.301/.377 for the season. He was .237/.283/.392 for the month, and has been consistently incompetent month-to-month, with OPS of 696-682-661-675 (678 for season). I'm fairly certain this includes his big July 31. I've been trying to stay patient with Colvin and checking his numbers at the end of every month. It's hard to come up with anything other than extreme disappoint at the utter lack of progress. This is a guy who many, or at least I, thought was a safe pick who would at least be decent even if he had little upside. Even the marginal upgrade in plate discipline has left him with a K/BB of 2.21/1.
  5. I would absolutely love to go to Shea 4 straight nights* with nothing on the line but setting up the playoff rotation. *did I just write that?
  6. Then again, if Favre accepts that $20m to stay retired, you can look back and say maybe Thompson was right, and Favre really wasn't committed to coming back.
  7. Only the people who refused to admit that Barrett made the first move. please don't let this stupid argument start up again. there was absolutely no way to tell what happened from that choppy youtube video. I saw it on a tv.
  8. I think it reads like an extended intro into a bigger article.
  9. Only the people who refused to admit that Barrett made the first move.
  10. http://www.jsonline.com/ I've been meaning to read up on some MJS articles about this series, so I check out the site. I love the picture and headline right next to it. http://graphics.jsonline.com/graphics/sports/brew/img/jul08/edmundsJ1073108-200.jpg Suspect in quadruple homicide arrested
  11. Here's a lesson for all you kids out there, can't be too careful with slumpbusters.
  12. A dangerous place to be an Astro? Is Cuba going to attack Houston?
  13. Too much room for shenanigans, and I don't see why they should consider allowing it.
  14. 5 minutes ago ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNnews all had Favre stories on. Mike and Mike have spent the vast majority of the past two days talking Favre while at the same time saying we realize people are sick of the story but it is big news. No, it's not big news because there hasn't been any news. It's a story at intermission. There's nothing to say about it.
  15. I never said it wasn't a hurdle, all I said is that Detroit should think they can pull if off. It will be difficult and the odds are against them, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they won that division. But I don't think even a good RP makes those odds any better, esp if they have to give up Pudge. I just don't understand why you trade Pudge for Farnsworth. His Ks are still good, but a hit an inning and a HR every 4 IP seems a bit high. And they just got Rodney back. Zumaya is back too (though he might have a bit of a nagging injury still). I don't think Farns is a difference of 5 games for them. So if getting Farns means banking on Inge to be productive for 2 months as an every day C, I think I keep Pudge. For what it's worth, I said the same thing.
  16. They lost a guy who was essentially a 110 OPS+ hitter with a backup who has something like a 60 OPS+, so they went out and got a guy with an OPS+ over 100. I think it's a lot more than a name acquisition. They needed a catcher.
  17. I never said it wasn't a hurdle, all I said is that Detroit should think they can pull if off. It will be difficult and the odds are against them, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they won that division.
  18. Like saying people annually claim the Cardinals overachieve?
  19. I had minor hopes for better than expected, but nothing like what he's done.
  20. Even if Kyle Farnsworth were a good RP, why would the Tigers want him? They can't truly think they can jump up 5.5 games in the next 2 months, can they? I'm not sure if this is sarcasm, but yes, they could, and probably should, think they can jump 5.5 games in 2 months. They aren't exactly chasing a juggernaut.
  21. Farnsworth has given up 2 ER in a month, but he's managed to put up a 5.40 ERA post ASB. The NYY are a big money "must win now" team desperate to make the playoffs, and they just lost their very good hitting C for the season, and have no legit replacement. You have to hold their feet to the fire and come away with something more than Kyle Farnsworth.
  22. Michael Kay giving Farnsworth a sendoff on YES.
  23. That didn't work last year, but maybe one more year off that contract would help. I think taking that year off his deal will help a lot. Teams still use stopgaps, and he could be a decent 1-year guy to bridge the gap to a prospect that's not quite ready. I don't see how it could help all that much. He's still owed $12m, with 10 of that being next year. If money was the issue, it's going to remain an issue in the offseason with the extremely backloaded contract.
  24. The Marlins were trying for him earlier, right?
