  1. The Hitler thing was funny the first time, it's not funny when you use it for everything.
  2. Turner has been in charge of the offense for years now, and the offense continues to be mediocre. His NFL experience is coaching the Bears, and his other primary experience is coaching the illini. In that time he's never developed an NFL QB. He's done nothing good. Getting mediocre talent to put up mediocre results doesn't impress me.
  3. This is a fairly ridiculous point. Any prospect can be described as having no value to the team as currently constructed. Gallagher had value then, and he could have had value now if he was still on the team (considering their lack of rotation depth at this point). Calling him table scraps and saying he had no value is completely inaccurate. You can stand by it all you want, but you are wrong.
  4. I had no idea they were even in the top 8 right now. They suck. But their gs/ga stats would be pretty even if not for the Blackhawks matchups. Edmonton could easily overtake them though, with 3 games in hand and only 2 points behind. Chicago is probably going to end up the 4 seed though, and will be playing a significantly better team in round 1.
  5. The Cowardly Bears story continues. From the absurd punts inside opponents territory when the team desperately needed to score, to the GM laying the blame almost entirely on the QB position despite total lack of talent anywhere else on offense, to everybody's job being in danger except for the boss man and the guys making the most money. This is pretty disgusting. LB and DB coaches are taking the blame while Lovie's BFF gets to stay on and continue the leadership of a declining defense. So far I've seen no evidence that Lovie's authority has dwindled in the least, and that's incredibly disappointing. The team has gotten worse since the super bowl, and the guys most responsible - Lovie, Turner, Babich and Angelo - are going to keep their jobs while their underlings take the hits.
  6. So now that they've traded away their mediocre innings eater and saved $5m, are they going to try and spend that $5m on another mediocre innings eater? Harden is a sure thing to miss time. The best bet for 5th starter, Marshall, has hit own issues with 150 inning seasons. Zambrano still has the cramps and mysterious shoulder issues, and Dempster doesn't have much of a history of prolonged health after heavy workloads. Lilly is about the most reliable guy they have to throw lots of innings. Samardzija had a month or two of success in the minors, and mixed results out of the pen in the majors. Gaudin is not somebody I'd rely on. The free agent supply is still very large and more than a few guys are going to be left disappointed with what they get to pitch next year. I'd say it's quite possible you could see somebody like Jon Garland get $5m for one year as they try and wait for the market to rebound by the 1st quarter of 2010.
  7. Why? He's had as many disappointing teams as good teams. He's been given more resourses than most every other GM, and the team has one 90 win season to his credit. He hired Dusty Freaking Baker for chrissakes. So I'm guessing you gave the F? c
  8. Enough with the relievers. They already have too many mediocre arms back there.
  9. http://cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090106&content_id=3734267&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc So they save $4.875 on this one, but are down one starter and up one more mediocre reliever.
  10. [puts on tin-foil hat] The powers that be in MLB and the govt. made sure that Cuban wouldn't own a baseball team.[takes off tin-foil hat] But seriously, the timing of the decision to move forward with his insider trading allegation is really suspicious. I don't think you're in "tin foil hat" territory with that one. That seems to be exactly what happened, and I don't think they would be apologetic about it. You think the SEC stepped up to prevent his bid?
  11. People already do that. This isn't some new revalation.
  12. You're right. Being the best running back in the country is meaningless. Remember, like you said no national champion in the last 10 years has had a 1,000 yard rusher. Wait, how many times did you backtrack on that? It's much more impressive to throw slip screens 1-yard in front of the line of scrimmage (or 8 yard ducks to guys who are fass) all year than it is to be the guy to stop on an offense and still get over 6 yards per carry and 100 yards every week. Dude were not saying based on his numbers he had an amazing year...heisman is not decided by just players numbers it's based on the [expletive] media, There team being one of the top ranked teams, Then the numbers you can be pretty sure meph is talking about the numbers
  13. Huh? They regularly had a top 5 scoring offense, and finished 1, 2 or 3 multiple times during their run. They struggled to score in the early 2000's, but offense was not always a shortcoming. Wasn't their biggest issue that their better pitchers didn't always pitch all that great in October?

  15. Thats what I don't get from all the Iowa fans....you guys do realize that Heisman's go to players who are playing for teams that are ranked at the end of the year at the very least? He had a great year hell an amazing year, but that's not all that's factored in It should be all that's factored in. It's a joke of an award anyway, I was just surprised I never saw his name mentioned.
  16. It was added to the banned list after McGwire was found with it.
  17. Are you effing kidding me? What a stupid comment. Spoiled? The occasional division championships is by no means spoiling fans. Maybe "spoiled" wasn't quite the right word, though some people around here sure come across that way at times. I totally stand by the "neediest" comment, though. Uh, yeah, spoiled was wrong. Neediest? Well maybe that's because they've never seen a championship. Seriously, Yankees fans are far more spoiled and needy. They bitch when they don't get 5 all star free agents an offseason. Mets fans are more needy and spoiled. Red Sox fans are far more spoiled, and the only reason they aren't as needy is because they've won recently. But listen to Red Sox fans when they miss out on a free agent to the Yankees. Seriously, that was a horribly ridiculous accusation.
  18. I don't want the Bears backup to be used like Peterson. I want Forte to get less touches next year, or else he'll be useless by 2010. The pass catching is a concern, but I don't know if that's because they didn't use him that way or he can't do it. I definitely think it's easier to teach a runner to catch the ball than teaching a good pass catcher to run well.

  20. How does his speed compare to Thomas Jones and Matt Forte? The Bears need a complementary back. Not the guy you want if you want speed, he's slower than Forte on the field. Also doesn't catch a lot of passes. I can't say on Thomas Jones because I haven't seen him the past 2 seasons. You can tell by seeing him? Thomas Jones isn't fast. I don't necessarily want speed. I want a complementary running back. Speed can be easily overrated, especially at that position. I want a guy that can break some tackles, make some moves and gain yards.
  21. If rodent hair could cause you to lose your job, you should eat something besides popcorn. It's widely known that the supplements industry is unregulated. It's happened repeatedly where players have tested positive for something they were sure was perfectly clean. Jim Miller was a highly publicized case of this in 1999. You don't just accidentally injest supplements. Either take stuff that is known to be clean, or don't take the stuff.
  22. Idiots. Why would they say that? That's incompetence by the union.
  23. Bako is going to essentially make major league minimum. It doesn't cost them anything more to have Bako be on the major league squad and Hill on Iowa then to have Hill on the major league squad and another minor league player on the 40 man. It doesn't cost them anything in terms of dollars, but it's a roster spot filled by a horrible player.
  24. Soriano, Ramirez, Lee, Zambrano, Samardzija have full no-trade protection. Fukudome and Lilly have no-trade protection.
