  1. I think the point is that if they were so careless to screw up last year, they could easily be careless enough to screw up again, even if it's not the same mistake.
  2. Harden on 4 days rest against this lineup in Philly. Color me scared.
  3. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of all golfers would take any British over any PGA Championship if given the choice.
  4. The fact that they play San Fran next Friday has no baring on this game or series. Philly has played just three games in the past four days. They used 4 relievers yesterday but none of them pitched as much as 1 full innings, and none of them pitched the day before. Sure it's always nice to get to a pen early and often, but it's not anymore of an advantage this week than normal.
  5. Are you saying it would be foolish to assume one of those second rate teams don't get insanely hot? Because I think that's a pretty safe assumption.
  6. Is "when he's ready" a euphemism for when he recovers from his hangover?
  7. You don't think this will be remembered? I think this story will definitely be among the top golf stories for the foreseeable future. Man that was painful to watch.
  8. The Cubs haven't won the season series from them since 2001. 16-29 v. the Phillies since '02. I go every year. For a while I think Chicago won every time I attended. I'm on a horrible losing streak stretching back to at least the day of the Nomar trade. The only recent win I remember was the cheap one they got thanks to a really bad homerun call off a Mark DeRosa foul ball. At least Pat Burrell isn't there any longer to kill them.
  9. Are you angry that he's number 2 or that he's in the same photo?
  10. Man I hate playing the Phillies. They own the Cubs.
  11. I'm sure he knows who the Bears receivers are.
  12. His career splits are weirdly even: vs. righties: .271 .335 .394 vs. lefties: .271 .337 .380 To me, that's what ruins his value. In the case of how he fits with the Cubs, that might be a benefit. Since Fontenot can't hit lefties, and also probably can't be counted on to play against every RHP either, they could presumably do more of a 50/50 platoon rather than RHP/LHP situation where Fontenot would play a heck of a lot more.
  13. It doesn't matter what your musical tastes are. Elvis is much more of a cult icon than MJ. Think of all the merchandise you see that has Elvis on it, etc. He also had a bigger fanbase as well because of the different genre that he recorded under. I'd have to think that Elvis also had more of an influential impact on music. All of the early rock bands like The Beatles, Stones, etc were influenced by his stardom. There's a famous story that John Lennon always told about going to see an Elvis movie when he was 14 or 15 and going "oh my god...THAT would be a good job!" and thus getting into music hard and heavy because of Elvis. My choice is not to denigrate MJ's impact at all, because I think he was massively influential and certainly is among the biggest superstars in modern music history, right alongside Elvis and The Beatles. Personally, I'm not an Elvis fan and have only ever owned his greatest hits, however, I just think the cultural impact that Elvis had on the country is hard to even come close to measuring. Ever pop artist the last 30 years has been influenced by MJ. NKOTB, New Edition, Backstreet Boys, NSync were all huge groups...would not exist without the Jackson Five's success. MJ's stage show also made pop artists step up their game (Madonna, Britney, Janet Jackson, etc). Chris Brown, Usher, Timberlake, are all MJ clones. MJ had the best disco album ever made and the best 2 pop albums ever. On top of that, he still has bonafide R-n-B hits. Elvis did span rock-n-roll, the blues, and gospel, but he didn't spawn any of those, the way MJ did to pop. If Elvis has any advantage it's his movies. But the international appeal of MJ gives him the edge, IMO. Most of those names you listed should count as demerits against Jackson.
  14. I'm not so sure the recent numbers aren't at least equally significant. Fontenot was more or less a hidden asset back then, playing sparingly. He just hasn't translated that success into more regular playing time. There was very little expectation he could do that before he had the success he did in the majors. If anything I think it's safe to say over 800 is asking too much. So let's say that you weight your expectations 2/3 from this year and 1/3 from his past, you're still getting an expectation that's better than Lugo, with better defense, with a better recent track record, and with someone who's at an age where improvement is more likely than decline. Well I wasn't necessarily talking about Lugo, just Fontenot. There would presumably still be some sort of platoon. I think all PA vs RHP is too much for Fontenot.

  16. Say what? http://buffetoblog.files.wordpress.com/2008/04/hillary-elvis.jpg
  17. How does he not have the right to talk about players on another team? And why the heck does he have to know the guys personally to have an opinion on their skills? Quoting Mike and Mike doesn't help your cause. First: He doesn't know guys like Iglesias, Knox, or Kinder. Not to mention I'm pretty sure when the Bears and Packers play, he doesn't chat with guys like Hester, Davis, or even Rideau. Which means he is only basing his comments on what he sees and not on actually information. Not to mention there is a better then 50% chance that the Bears WR core could make a big step forward in their development now that the Bears have a legit QB. So why would Driver want to give these WR players bulletin board material, is beyond. Because I don't see Harris and Woodson shutting down the Bears WR this yr like they did last yr. Second: I like "Mike and Mike." And I wasn't quoting anything they said, just a segment they would run periodically that is call "Shut the hell up." And Driver definately would not to "Shut the hell up." So you have to have conversations with receivers before you can talk about their abilities?

  19. Tiger finishes +5, current cut line is +4.
  20. Not if you need a loogy in the bullpen and Hart doesn't really fit into your team's plans. If you think you need a loogy to the point where you trade a better pitcher to get one, then it's still overpaying and a bad mistake. It's nice to get a balance of lefties and righties, but what's more important is getting the best player.
  21. He wasn't all that great yesterday either was he? Missed a ton of fairways. He lost a drive today despite having several dozen spectators help him look. Watson just finished with a very long putt for a second round 70 and is -5, tied for the lead. Tiger is +7, tied for 107th, with Duval, Campbell and many others.
  22. If you want to increase your odds of finding the one who ends up decent the rest of the year you do. Well [expletive], let's just keep any real prospects at AA and save AAA for guys who are DFAd And rehab. Don't forget the rehab, fake injury or real.
