  1. You think the guy chooses which conference he wants to coach in over which team he wants to coach for?
  2. I can only assume he's going to throw more money at "proven relievers".
  3. Sorry man, but "we" the fans are not to blame. There were small pockets of idiot fans who contributed to the problem, but I sure as heck didn't participate, and the vast majority of people I saw in Wrigley in the 2 games I attended immediately following that meltdown weren't participating either. Are you really trying to argue semantics? And your vast majority is different from everybody else I've talked to. I don't believe it is semantics at all to excuse myself from the blame. And while the majority may be in favor of trading Milton now, my point was that at the time, at Wrigley field, the majority were definitely not booing his every move. There were 2 guys in a crowd of a couple hundred near me being loud and obnoxious toward Milton. It may have seemed like a crowd hassling him, but it was literally 2 guys. It was not the majority booing and making things worse.
  4. I'm not going to worry about trying to get tickets this season. Not worth the hassle.

  6. The black X over the silver lining is that the team could luck into an 85 win season where they contend based on weak opponents and everybody will applaud the move and pressure them to keep Hendry.
  7. You can have all of our first and second rounders in 2010 for him. That deal is dead in the water. Only the 2nd.
  8. Some people will frame it in a "when you consider he absolutely had to trade him" this is as good as you could expect to get, when in fact there never was a reason why they had to trade him. Of course, I haven't seen any confimation on this yet.
  9. They've really got Mesa scrambling. I think it's mission accomplished for the Cubs, no matter how this works out. Good. The facilities in Mesa are horrible and easily the worst in Arizona. But I want the Cubs to stay in Arizona. Somebody wrote that the facilities in AZ are only 12 years old. Is that true? I was there in 2005, I believe, and it was a dump. Are they talking Fitch Park or HOHOKam?
  10. I don't really care what kind of stats Silva has put up, I'll wait to judge until after I've seen him pitch with my own eyes. As long as he's a good guy I could totally live with it.
  11. Paul Sullivan is such a freaking tool. What? Advertisements on the 'tron? I guess Sully assumes the Jumbotron would pay for itself, and more. That's kind of why teams have them, to surround them with ads, and run ads on them during the game. They aren't there for your viewing pleasure.
  12. relief pitchers ACTUALLY serve a purpose on a MLB roster, all DH does is waste spot for somebody who deserves said spot. yeah, how dare edgar martinez unfairly take a spot on the mariners roster when there was probably some no-hit, slick glove ss that was left without a job for the entire decade of the 90s. Did redflash actually say that, and mean that?
  13. He's been hurt for a couple weeks and Cutler's gone in the crapper.
  14. Really? Sounds a little melodramatic. This has been quite tame.
  15. offensive line without question. There are no receiver stars, but there are a couple guys capable of being solid 2s. The line is completely inept. I will not debate this.
  16. Sounds like WR is a position they'll probably leave as-is. WR is a position of strength? That's delusional on Angelo's part. Completely delusional. from a quantity standpoint, I agree with him. they have several nfl caliber receivers. What they don't have is the one stud to dominate a game. Without a stud RB, or a high quality line, that leaves the offense as a whole lacking. Forte is never going to be a guy you have to game plan around. You can't have an offense with every skill position player being good enough, but not of them great. And that's what the Bears have at every running and receiving position.
  17. Surely they have a few bucks laying around. Have they really splurged on anything since Miguel Tejada? Was it Baltimore or Washington that made a massive offer to Teixeira last offseason? I think it was the Orioles, but I'm not sure. Baltimore made a play for the hometown kid, not sure how massive the offer ended up being. Baltimore had the highest payroll in the league back in the late 90's, leapfrogging with the Yankees until NY pulled away. Andy MacPhail's MO has been to allow for one big contract on the team, with Sosa, then nearly Hampton replacing Sammy. It wouldn't surprise me.
  18. that's crazy If somebody said a couple years ago that Chris Henry was going to die young, i wouldn't be surprised. Can't help but wonder if this is a reverse Tiger, where the fiance drove off after arguing about infidelity, he chased after and paid the ultimate price.
  19. Absolutely not. A small part of me would die if the NL got the DH. Without a doubt I'd prefer if the AL got rid of the DH. But if it meant a more equitable playing field, I could probably live with it. I think Boston and the Yankees play a much greater role in that than the DH. Those two teams dominate the payroll battle and accounted for 4 WS titles since 2000. The NL is 4-2 in the remaining. That and the fact that Milwaukee went to the NL. They had more 90+ loss teams (4) than .500+ teams (3) since moving to the NL. That leaves one more bad NL team and one less bad AL team for most seasons of interleague play.
  20. Are AL west parks that bad? I thought Seattle was no longer a pitcher haven and only Oakland has any sort of significant negative affect. Angels are pretty average to hitter friendly.
  21. it's still a part of the risk involved with getting the player.
  22. He might be worth it, but it's hard to say. He's really sucked in most of his recent years and that was during what should have been his peak. He's already 32 and will be 34 by the end of the deal. He has no upside, but his he could have a really low downside. Short deals with little financial commitment cant have a really low downside. If he pulls a hamstring, cut him. That four million a season isn't going to break the White Sox payroll. It may require KW to get a bit creative and backload a contract, but it shouldn't impact them in any real direct fashion. Again, not saying the move was a good one. Just saying that it wasn't bad enough to justify some of the responses I've seen so far. Sure if they cut him that solves the problem, but I disagree that 2/8 can't have really low downside. First off, it's real money that eats into the budget, and second, managers have a bad habit of letting certain types of really bad players keep playing despite being awful. If he gets a lot of playing time and plays as poorly as he is capable, that could really hurt his team.

  24. To pee? I always assume those people have deep psychological problems and are probably child molestors. It was a Seinfeld line. As a Seinfeld quote enthusiast, I'm stumped. And now that I've looked it up I must tip my hat to you good sir. Well played. :hello:
  25. No they are just going to provide him stretchy pants so he has the ability to expand freely.
