I know a couple Cornell grads, and they are by far the least vocal of Ivy supporters, but man they really came out of the woodwork yesterday.

He also leads the team in AB and has only 1 HR. So the assumption that gaining weight gave him a bunch of power hasn't showed itself yet.

But there's been plenty of division games on short weeks, thanksgiving and the regular Thursday games. Just this year GB played Detroit on Thanksgiving. I still think there's variance for thanksgiving viewers and they would like to throw out good matchups when possible, including division foes.

Jim Hendry is the man in charge of the baseball team, he's been in charge for several years, and has been a major decision maker since the early 90's. There is nobody more to blame for the failure than Jim Hendry.

Because that's not his ceiling. He would have to change significantly for that to no longer be his ceiling. So I take it you haven't kept up much with this offseason? Putting on muscle doesn't change the fact that he's done crap in the minors and hasn't come close to showing any patience. I don't really care about media reports about what everybody does in the offseason to finally turn things around. 9 times out of 10 those efforst are meaningless. Prove it on the diamond.

What I don't get is why they rule out division foe. Why not play one of those games then? The Bears have played Detroit on Thanksgiving. Dallas has played division foes in the past.

They aren't screwed, but they aren't in a great situation either. Their superior resource advantage is compromised severely by those contracts, which effectively puts them in the middle of the pack with everybody else. -
A depressing look at the Bears' draft picks from Brad Biggs. I don't know if I really buy the whole draft pick value thing. Too many 1st round busts. It's only valuable until you screw it up -- and there's a lot of screwing it up going on. Yeah but the point is, that draft points indicate the trade value of draft picks. If the Bears traded their entire draft for something, it would essentially be like trading the 55th pick of the draft for something. Except that point system thing is considered way out of date, and mid-round picks have gone up in value and high 1st rounders have gone down, with the massive increase in guaranteed money those players get.

But if they lose in the 2nd round it would be much easier to take if they beat Detroit in the 1st.

Bridge the gap for about 2 maybe 3 years. They need to draft a QB either this year or next and groom him behind someone. Sure, but what good does gap bridging do? To go from a 1 win team to a contender, you need your draft picks to provide a lot of quality play for several years.

Yeah, it was a cold wet weekday in May I believe. They didn't start selling out the stadium until late that season. I can't remember if I heard the end of the game on WFAN picking up the signal or if ESPN picked it up late. Later that season WFAN kept picking up Sosa at bats when he was approaching the record.

I think it's kind of a pointless move by the Rams. A 34-year old oft-injured franchise QB might make them a .500 team, but is that some sort of goal?

This just proves he can handle the LOOGY position. Well done Sean I guess if he fails at that he can always be some sort of starter, as if that spot matters.

I think they have so many needs still that they can focus on getting the most value they can out of the picks available and still end up addressing a need. Whether it's an offensive lineman, DBack, DLineman (tackle or end), WR and even LB (often the best special teams players - and Urlacher is going to need to be replaced in the not too distant future). Maybe they stear clear of QB and RB, however, teams keep drafting QB's all the time and then trade them once they've become a little established, providing great value, and RB turns over all the time.

If he is going to develop, he has to be in the minors. There is no way he will get enough regular work in the majors. That being said, I still have severe doubts that he will develop any further than he has, and we'll just have to hope they get something out of the ridiculous overreach they made in the draft with him. If he turns into a usable 4th OF, it won't be a total loss.

A while ago I would have thought why not just give him the bench role he seems destined to fill. However, if he really has developed some actual power and still has a chance to be a little more than that, then you have to let him play everyday in the minors.

Of course they should trade him, if they could. But they can't, so there's no point. What does this have to do with forgiving him though? His weaknesses were well known before he came to Chicago and he's done nothing but play exactly like you'd expect over the course of three seasons in Chicago. It's not like he was Pujols before then came here and turned into Neifi. for the most part, except that he missed very few games in the seasons before he came to the cubs and now he gets hurt all the time. He was also under 30 before he came to Chicago and over 30 in Chicago. Missed time for a guy entering his 30's shouldn't be considered a shocking change in a player's profile.

I only worry about his desire to put his imprint on the game by "making things happen" which is just stupid baseball. Maybe, but that (small ball) has worked well for Scioscia, Ozzie and Larussa (hell he hits the pitcher 8th which is more than just stupid)...plus you manage a completely different way in the minors and the Majors. look at Terry Francona. I bet he bunted and tried made things happen while trying to hide a .200 hitting Michael Jordan in 1994 in Double A. How has it worked well for Ozzie? Ozzie ball is a myth. They won a WS in a year when they led the league in HR and had great pitching. It had nothing to do with small ball, and they've been largely mediocre outside that season. Scioscia is the only one to really make it work, but he's had the benefit of playing in a 4 team division with 3 really crappy rivals. Larusa lives on Pujols and Duncan's magic pitching coach abilities. There's plenty of failures in the coaching ranks who have tried this nonsense, notably Baylor and Baker. -

Would be an interesting road season for us, playing on Thanksgiving in Dallas' season, still possibly opening up the season on Sunday night to christen the Giants new stadium and then going to Toronto for a Bills game. All we need now is to get in on that international game. Too bad those teams are already picked out. I'll take boring 1 EST starts. National television games were not very kind to the Bears. If you could take out the prime time games from 2009 Cutler would've ended up looking a lot better. I agree, but not because I think it's bad for the Bears. It's just much more enjoyable to watch games in the middle of a Sunday than at night.
