  1. Is something missing here? How does a 1-3 effort sink Vitters' numbers?
  2. Its the Women's World Cup. I doubt Fifa cares that much at all. It sounds like they did. They were going to offer their first open statement denouncing homophobia in exchange for use of the Gate, but when they couldn't get a big enough music act to draw the crowd, they opted out and maintained their pro-homophobia stance.

  4. Ladd got a pretty nice extension.
  5. That seems like a tough claim to make given how many people think a deal is pretty close.
  6. I am a Hendry critic for certain. We are all judged by results, not effort. The problem with Hendry is too many of his deals have not worked. I think he has a reasonably good idea of what he is doing, he just is not getting the results. As I said, we live in a society that does not care if you: 'tried". We live in a results only based society. Pure effort does not cut it anymore. Where did I say anything about effort? His stupid FA spending is what has crippled this team, not that list of slightly positive, benign at worst deals. His trade record is very good, by and large. I want him gone, but there's no need to paint everything the guy has done as grossly incompetent. If his trade record was very good, this team would be better. Soriano is overpaid, but the thing that has crippled this franchise is not contracts, it's a lack of good baseball players. Hendry is in charge of acquiring those players, and he has done a poor job of doing it. You can't be very good at acquiring good baseball players and have a very bad baseball team.
  7. The myth that henry is great at midseason trades is just dumb. If he was good at that they wouldn't suck so often. And the notion that the best and only candidate for the Kobe is a currently employed gm is just a superficial nonsensical made up restriction against making change. If you want hendry gone you want him gone today. There is no justification for wanting to wait.
  8. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/ct-met-mcdonough-obit-20110627,0,3671250.story McDonough's dad passed away, he was 98.
  9. I definitely have no problem with them trading Marshall. It's going to get to the point where they will have to sign him longterm if they want to keep him and I hate longterm reliever contracts. If they can get some quality for him, or in a deal that includes him, I would not mind.
  10. It was a slider away that look way away, but the pitch track thing had it just outside.
  11. My guess is that is probably not what happened. He did look awkward bending for that bunt while running.
  12. Relievers with a greater WAR than Marshall since Opening Day 2010: Brian Wilson, Carlos Marmol Relievers with a better xFIP than Marshall since Opening Day 2010: Billy Wagner, who retired before this season He's owed a little less than 4 million through the end of next season. He's about as valuable as a reliever can get, the only way he could have more value is if he still had arbitration years in front of him. Except he's not a closer. Right or wrong, teams won't be giving up their top prospects for a setup guy without real closing experience. The solution to that problem is don't trade him.
  13. In fairness, anybody they call up from their system is probably going to be even more awful.
  14. Koyie Hill is the king of the incredulous shoulder shrug after a guy slides past him at home.
  15. http://twitter.com/#!/helenenothelen/status/86475028895514626 Colin Fraser will be out for 4 months. Kings got him in Smyth trade and they are not happy.
  16. http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/5940 From Bruce Miles: “I think it would have to be great for both,” he said, referring to himself and the Cubs. “Obviously, Sarah and I will talk about it. We have a little bit. It would have to be ideal for both. It would have to be something that is definitely going to help this organization down the road and something that’s going to fit for us, which is, right now, here. I know the talk’s going to come. I’ve already been hearing it. So we can address it now. I doubt it. We’re committed here. We’ve got an event in September. So I’ll just leave it at that. I don’t see it. I don’t see it happening.”
  17. I was talking with a colleague when the TV suddenly turned to WGN at 2:00. Forgot I set a reminder earlier today. Oops.
  18. I'm in it for the lightning strikes and sports bras.
  19. Doesn't mean we have to give up actual talent for him. He's more of the type of guy they could use than the type of guy they need. They actually need a hell of a lot more than him.
