He got the job thanks to his speed, they admitted late last season that Bennett should have played more, he made numerous mistakes while route running, and sat out practice with a back issue this week. The coaches definitely seem to be coming down hard on the guy and I doubt it was just because they felt like it. If Knox is already threatening to leave, with his miniscule track record in the NFL, I have to question whether the guy has his head on straight.

Maybe I'm looking to much into it but I see Ramirez having a big influence with the kid and Ramirez has been fairly quiet throughout his time here. The media likes a good quote and in their collective minds it is a waste of time to try and pry out quotes from an ESL kid while there are plenty of fluent veterans and/or fluent English speakers; Dempster, Campana, Byrd, Pena, Wood and Garza. And Ramirez was here when the Sosa relationship blew up, so perhaps he's always tried to avoid it and now is steering Castro in that direction.

Monday's final line as a Cub, .272/.346/.507, you grew tired of that? I have no idea what kind of fielder he was, but if you grew tired of that type of batting line from a CF (133 OPS+) I'm not sure what you wanted.

What justification do you have for calling him an all or nothing hitter. His numbers on the Cubs do not support your comment. It's the lack of "productive outs" isn't it? You're hung up on strikeout totals and can't look past them.

I was surprised by how openly Stevie criticized Tiger for banging women and was kind of surprised the relationship didn't end sooner.

Something to consider is it was the first year in the system for all of them. I think Knox had the easiest transition because all he really does is go deep and hope Cutler finds him. I think the fact that he put up those numbers but was still demoted this year, when other better route runners got up to speed is telling. This isn't baseball. They didn't all get the same PA against the same pitchers over 162 games. It's harder to judge based just on receptions and ypc in one season. Hester went back into the return game more last year, but he's grown as a receiver. I don't see how any "analytical" football site can try and claim Knox is the best receiver. I love what he brings to the table in terms of big play potential and all that. But if I'm lining up 2 guys to start the game I can find many reasons to not have him be one of those two guys.

Isn't the thing with Lilly that he absolutely achieved his ceiling? It's not crazy to compare a minor leaguer to him for ceiling purposes, it's the likelihood of reaching it that may be a stretch. -
I hear ya. I just don't think Jerry knows how to do offense. I really don't. Cutler fell in his lap and he's been stumbling and fumbling to figure out how to take advantage ever since. Offensive line was the big bugaboo in Tampa for several years when their defense made them legit.

Don't worry about that Jerry, you definitely don't have stars at every position. Or any position for that matter. Well now, Peppers and Hester (as a returner) are stars. And Urlacher and Briggs if you stretch the definition a touch. But yeah, pretty ridiculous statement on his part. I was specifically thinking about the offensive line, it consists of 5 positions. In a more general sense the entire offense is lacking in stars. Cutler is star capable, but he's pretty far down the list of star QBs out there. Hester is a special teams star. Forte is a reliable runner, but no star. He makes a point that can't have stars at every position. It would be nice to have a legit pro bowl caliber offensive lineman, at least somewhere. And something resembling a star at WR. New England knows they can't have stars everywhere, but they have stars. Indy knows they can't have stars everywhere, but they have stars.

Yeah, I don't think he was the best. That's the point. He was targeted a lot and put up decent numbers, but in a very inefficient manner.

I think that supports the idea that he's an innefficient receiver who can beat you with his legs by going deep but far from ideal in an offense which requires route running, timing and being in the right place. The guy looked clueless out there many times. But with no few weapons available and his natural talent, they had to use him.

Hester is probably the Bears 4th best receiver, imo. Hopefully this is just preseason bluster. My impression of Knox is that he was not where he needed to be far too often to be considered the Bears best receiver last year. He may have ended with the better numbers, but he left a lot on the table.

Looking forward to having no option but Colvin in RF next year, were you? If Jim Hendry can't manage to find a corner outfielder for less than $6 million that can put up an OPS around .800, he's worse than I thought. I would imagine a corner OF with an 800 OPS for $6m or less would probably be pretty hard to acquire. -

Are there inside-the-park home runs that don't somehow involve a play being botched? Isn't it typically an OF diving for a ball and missing it, so it gets behind him, and then the other OF is slow to back him up?

Which makes me think that Chris Williams is probably the most likely candidate to get replaced by Spencer. Yeah, Tice's quote about the 5 being set unless one of them proves him wrong makes me think they are pressuring Williams to improve, or they will slot Spencer into C with Garza back to RG and Louis flipping to left side. They could also decide to just slide Spencer in at left guard to keep everyone else where they are. I think they actually like Garza at C. They could, but I think that puts more guys at unfamiliar positions. Spencer is a C, Garza is a G. Seems odd to try out an old guard at center and have your new center learn to play guard when you can just put them both in their normal positions.

5th time this year he's gone three straight days, 3rd time since the beginning of July. He went from being well off his normal games/innings pace to being right back in-line.
