  1. Yeah Fangraphs has right around 55 too, I guess the disconnect that I can see is they have 14 million for pre-arb contracts(not including 40-man minor leaguers) and I'm not sure how they come to that considering they have 7 players in that bucket. Even doubling it for the likelihood of Estrada, Wesneski, Mastrobuoni, etc being major leaguers, there's only so many slots considering those minor leaguers + guaranteed + arb salaries. One other thing to consider is the major league IL. If a big leaguer is on the IL and replaced by a minor leaguer, you're paying an extra $800k. I thought the tax took into account the 40 man, wouldn’t that amount just be prorated for the time on the roster? A relative pittance
  2. Get back in the tank. There’s no point trying to win 82 games in 2023.
  3. I’ve spent more on a box of burgers
  4. he went from being okay last year to bad this year. it was bad regardless, but now we don't even get a decent player out of it yea, Keith was [expletive] but I dearly miss the days of a D-man who could take over a game - Seth basically gives the game away one could argue that this is his job at the moment
  5. Yes, but did something new happen on this front?
  6. When you only have to watch 7 full games to beat the number... I’m not sure I watched a full game start to finish in 2022. I’m fairly certain I have not watched 75% of a full game since ~2018?
  7. The one American sport where financial dominance can secure you regular playoff appearances, we cheer for an extremely wealthy and profitable team, and they can’t commit.
  8. You’re gonna have to show your work on this theory.
  9. Whatever D.B. Sweeney got for Cutting Edge. Toe Pick.
  10. I’m gonna go get the papers get the papers
  11. Who will have a lot of questions to answer, and from whom? This isn’t a publicly traded entity with shareholders nor are they elected officials. They are hyping a product they are attempting to sell, a product that they have been happy to sell while defective for most of their tenure. They aren’t Steinbrenners.
  12. Because the GM is obsessed with efficiency and the owner is comfortable with the business model of a losing Cubs team still being profitable.
  13. I really don’t get the thinking that Jed might get fired for saving Ricketts money. Ownership has taken heat and ticket sales are down so biz people are talking a big game, probably precisely because they have faith that Jed won’t spend like Theo.
  14. My wife picked a HELL of a weekend to host the south jersey family
  15. I don't see a meaningful difference between "worried the money will dry up" versus "worried the money will dry up unless the Cubs hit some undetermined benchmark of performance" Same. When I read Shadev’s response, I thought, “yeah, that’s basically what he said you said.” No. Dom is saying he reported Jed was afraid it will dry up. He responded that what he was speculating it would be natural to have that concern in the back of his head. He wasn’t reporting Jed had that concern, but Dom made it sounds like he did.
  16. I don’t know who runs things there but Kingsbury in year 5 with up and down success so far doesn’t seem like a good tank option. They may just lose anyway.
  17. Why would anyone care what this chick thinks? Chicks man
  18. Troy Aikman is really Smoltzing it up out there tonight
  19. It likely means Justin fields winning games on his own which is the only exciting thing this organization is capable of at the current moment. I get that, but I don't personally attribute wins to individual players. Fields has been playing his ass off, he doesn't need the team to win to prove it. but watching him win would be fun

  21. pulling the rug out from theo right before harper was so bad that it is in our GM's head several years later I can't really say I blame him. Although as was asked up thread, why did he even take the job if this were the case? . because it is a very high paying job that will remove the need for work later in life, and there was no pressure to succeed for several years. Ownership isn’t really going to be pissed at a guy for not spending money. All he needs to do is field a team that can flirt with the playoffs.
  22. TO12
  23. If you’re worried about not getting a great players best years only, then just be the A’s and sell every 18 months
  24. I think he's saying he's heard from a source that the Cubs are close to a signing. And that the source was reprimanded for leaking previously
