  1. They've had over a decade to do the right thing with this situation. Of course they deserve the ridicule.
  2. Peterno confirmed via statement "at this moment the board of trustees should not spend a single minute discussing my status" what a complete ass. first he tells his bosses they can't fire him. now after it's revealed he was complicit in allowing a pedophile to pray on children he tells his bosses to not even think of firing him
  3. This is easily the worst scandal in college football history and it all happened under Joe's watch. I have no idea how people can pretend he didn't know.
  4. So, like if he yells at somebody in the dugout he's kicked off the team no questions asked?
  5. or whatever they are
  6. but he passed it along to his "boss" who doesn't have the power to fire him
  7. Suspension or banned from the team? If he does something and they suspend him a couple days, I don't give a crap. If they are going to be idiots and ban him from the team again, that's a problem. Let's be realistic, if Zambrano stays and there is another incident they are not going to suspend him for a couple of days. Why?
  8. peterno stepping down at end of season pretty cowardly end if that's how it goes down
  9. I wish they would do a better job of having teams coming off a bye facing each other but it's never been a priority for them. The worst is how they handle the Thursday night games. When the Chargers play Thursday night, it will be their 3rd game in 11 days. Of course, they get extra rest before they come to Chicago the following week. On a side note, I'm looking forward to Rivers/Cutler. As a neutral observer I never understood what Rivers' issues were with Cutler. Rivers bugged the crap out of me then with his insane whining. Obviously now that he's a Bear I'm even more supportive of Cutler.

  11. Absolutely. I'm sure he's been going at it a lot longer, and I'm sure somebody at least had an inkling for a long time before then. But Penn State football was aware of it at least as early as the 90's, and Joe Paterno is Penn State Football. He's known since the late 90's, some indications that it was the mid 90's, and it's quite possible earlier. Senile old man Paterno today is not the man who knew what happened well over a decade ago.
  12. Oh my god that guy is terrible. There's still plenty of time for this team to right he ship and they remain a potential contender, but the fact remains Bowman hasn't built anything yet. All his tinkering post final, while necessary - to an extent, hasn't helped the product on the ice.

  14. It's still his fault for not putting forth the effort to understand the gravity of the situation. It's also still his fault that he fostered the kind of culture in a town that allowed someone to have unfettered access to victims in their schools, homes, his home and even PSU facilities. In a town where Paterno is god and football is everything, his right hand man had so much more leeway than the average pedophile. That lack of accountability is on Joe Pa. And I'm not talking about doddering old senile Joe Pa. I'm talking Joe Pa years ago when allegations first started coming out. But yes, in the big lineup of people who should have done more, the half-wit coward McQueary is #1. People seem to be glossing over the fact that this stuff started at least as early as the 90's. Paterno may be a senile old man today, but he wasn't in the 90's and early 2000's, when he had the opportunity to do something and chose not to.
  15. They already did that. After I saw the video last night espn was running a scroll of the text on the bottom line and they completely edited what he said, taking out the parts about "victims, or whatever they are" and a couple others things.

  17. Some authorities found out as early as 1998.
  18. so reports indicate that joe paterno told his team, or did not tell his team, that he is resigning. looks like ben jones quickly deleted that tweet and issued another one saying it was not true, from a source who would know.
  19. other than the fact that it's a huge black eye and they will probably lose some recruits in the short term, they probably won't get punished if the powers that be wise up and do the right thing.
  20. http://twitter.com/#!/Ben_Jones88/status/134050249789546497 @Ben_Jones88 Ben Jones Rumor is that Paterno has told the team he is stepping down. Not able to confirm.
  21. http://twitter.com/#!/Ben_Jones88/status/134046394230120448 "no matter what happens to some people I'm proud of you" Not sure about the context of that quote

  23. considering he admitted to it a decade ago to one of the mothers it's not so much that he got away with it. I think penn state canned him and pushed it under the rug, and thanks to their status as the king in town they were able to convince people they handled it and nobody else should worry about it
  24. It's absolutely not clear cut. As I said, if they clear house I would think the ncaa will stay away. If they don't, however, there's plenty out there to get the ncaa involved and it absolutely involves the football program. also, while the perpetrator is now a former coach, inexplicably allowed to hang around the program long after all the powers that be knew he was a sicko, he was doing these things while still a coach.
