  1. Back of the napkin math that’s a 21/22 win season
  2. It's not going to take a miracle to finish out of the bottom 1/3 FFS Experts (for whatever their opinions are worth) are predicting a 6-win season. That would be bottom 1/3 And it would not take a miracle to outperform expert predictions
  3. Definitely a lot of pitching death with this organization. Not as much as cardinals though
  4. I’ve turned to the hoge and jahns podcast to catch up on Chicago sports talk from time to time and it’s weird how much they are lamenting Jack Sanborn’s demotion due to new free agent signings. It’s almost like they are living vicariously through this guy and taking it personally.
  5. And that’s by choice so the people that made the choice should be held accountable. They have an outside chance of being a dangerous offense with a variety of weapons. It seems like the goal is to overwhelm the opposition with competent skill position guys. You won’t win 12 games that way, but you can compete in every game. 4 top 64 picks should net you 4 starters. It won’t, but it should.
  6. I think fans can and should demand a winning team. There is absolutely no excuse for a multi year rebuild in the nfl. They were bad in 2021. They were bad in 2022. They had the ability to drastically improve the team in the interim and just because they chose not to does not mean it was inevitable. A 6 win 2023 is a disaster and a situation where you have to look to replace the qb, GM, HC.
  7. 2-1 win. Reichel scored. I wonder what they can get for him at the next deadline.
  8. Watching the devils play tampa and seeing Hagel flying around just reminds me of a point about this unique tank job people seemingly ignored when arguing it’s just like Detroit or some other teams. They traded away 3 very young foundational pieces in 4 months, not just for the returns they got, but to encourage Toews and Kane to request trades, which obviously didn’t work out. They didn’t just trade off expensive old guys in this tank. They traded young cheap players. And the tank ain’t doing so hot either with them winning 2-0 late. It’s going to last 5+ years. On the plus side we might lose another Wirtz by then.
  9. I’ve thought that too. They’ll also have 2 first round picks with at least one of them hopefully being top 10. But I don’t think Poles is a splashy FA guy in general. Not sure if he’ll ever make the splash you think he makes. I think he is carefully building this thing up and doesn’t necessarily have a timeline in his mind. He absolutely should be trying to win ASAP with Fields on his rookie deal though “At least one hopefully top 10?” It better not be 2.
  10. Clowney and Floyd are definitely fun ideas. Too old for Poles to commit but maybe get at a discount for short term? Also like Gesicki.
  11. And these were problems when he was in his peak physical condition. He’s now old and worn down and cannot be counted on as this teams starting center.
  12. No. But “or rookie” is doing a lot of work there. You either upgrade the line or you stay below average. End of story.
  13. I was specifically thinking of Bryant, Rizzo, Baez & Contreras. But essentially swapping Schwarber for Joc was indeed dumb. Meh. Schwarber was a career 113 OPS+ guy with no defensive value when the Cubs let him go. What the hell were they going to get for him? He has hit better the past two seasons, but still has yet to exceed 3 WAR in his career. Not sweating him or that decision whatsoever. The hindsight angst some people have over it is overblown. Hell, Joc was a better hitter last year. it’s not hindsight angst. It was strictly a cost cutting measure and not a baseball decision. They also could have approached Rizzo in the middle of his under market extension and negotiated a reasonable extension to end his career as a Cub. That one is a little hindsight because I didn’t realize how incompetent they would be finding a first baseman. If I did then I would have been begging for this move rather than just thinking it was a nice idea at the time.
  14. That was hardly the only mistake. Losing Schwarber for nothing was dumb.
  15. Also I know there's still a lot of offseason and more chances for players to be cut, etc but is there a chance the Bears don't actually spend to the cash floor and pay the extra money out? Feels more like a possibility each day. But my current theory is they'll throw the Kittle extension at Kmet which had a massive frontloaded signing bonus and that will more or less carry them across the finish line (along with a few small signings) Paying Cole Kmet along the lines of Kittle would be the least value focused move Poles could dream of.
  16. A poor man’s version of your starter as the backup is not good
  17. Such a dumb pointless tournament
  18. Elite NFL players are not a luxury, they are a necessity if you are interested in winning football games
  19. That’s what the money (and all the other draft picks) is for. It may not be the right move this season but it’s a perfectly reasonable option to consider. That's what luxuries are. Things you do in the right situation but not when you have more pressing needs hard disagree. I don’t know if the player is worth it, but if he is you make the pick. Waiting to acquire elite players until everything else is right is for cowards
