  1. It wasn't just tweets, Vaughn McClure had a piece in the paper stating that league sources told him Bates was out.
  2. Yeah, I don't know what a "communication issue" would be. My assistant will set-up the time for your interview (assistant doesn't set up time for his interview).
  3. Interesting. I always assumed it was Bates who turned down the job because he didn't want to be on a staff with a lame duck HC....which Lovie was at that point. Also probably means Angelo was the league source that said Bates wouldn't be considered. What could have been the miscommunication? Angelo had a lot of glitches, from the checking boxes on qualifying contract offers, to draft day trades and now Lovie's staff. Did he tell him the job wasn't worth taking?
  4. Not sure how it would be perceived, but I think if Tice is OC and there is a QB Coach/Passing Game Coordinator under him with some semblence of a name (and I think Bates qualifies for that), then Tice would not get full credit for any improvement in the offense, at least in the passing game portion of that offense. There are egos involved with these titles and job descriptions. A guy hired to be offensive coordinator wants full OC responsibility and credit. I do see Tice trying to land a HC gig within a year or two, which is part of the reason why I'm happy that somebody who is at least theoretically qualified to run the full offense is getting this job.
  5. I'm having a hard time imagining a .388 SLG out of Cardenas. A very hard time. The BA/OBP sounds about right, though. he had a .780 ops in the minors while being young for his level most of the way; i think you're underselling his potential if he approaches his milb numbers, he'll be much more than a 'slightly above average hitter' for 2B In 3 AAA seasons he's got a 730 OPS. You don't really assume a prospect will duplicate his minor league numbers in the majors.
  6. http://aol.sportingnews.com/mlb/story/2012-02-07/yoenis-cespedes-must-clear-another-hurdle-before-he-can-sign-in-majors Kind of an odd thing for an agent to say, considering you would think he wants to represent more foreign players.
  7. That's what I wonder as well. My guess is Bates handles it. Not sure what the reasoning was behind the name. Part of me thinks Tice didn't want a passing game coordinator title under him which could leasen his perceived status as OC. I would guess Tice had to be talked into this hire.
  8. So I wonder who those league sources were that told Vaughn McClure that Bates wouldn't be considered. Angelo?
  9. I really don't know much about the guy but everything about him seems a bigger positive than Van Pelt, at least superficially.
  10. http://www.chicagobears.com/news/NewsStory.asp?story_id=8618
  11. Well I'll be. That's a direct contradiction to earlier reports, and moderately positive news if you ask me.
  12. 2Bs hit .260/.319/.388 last year; it's not hard at all to envision Cardenas being above average at the position, offensively But if the reports of being an awful defender are true I can't imagine the benefit of playing a slightly above average hitter there.
  13. This was quite an idiotic statement. I'm not freaking out at all. I saw some people talking positively about the acquisition and I didn't know what the positives were. So I asked.
  14. DeWitt is bad at everything, Cardenas might be good with the bat. We won't be needing a defensive sub on the middle infield, so a slight defensive downgrade isn't a big deal in order for potential offensive improvement. So, a pinch hitter? We're hoping he might not be a horrible pinch hitter?
  15. Brady/Belichick have lost 2, while they also lost to Green Bay and the Bears.
  16. Something I never thought I'd ever see: Americans in general taking joy after a NY team beat a Boston team. Not sure if anyone mentioned this earlier but, with this loss, the Pats have tied the record for most superbowls lost with 3 They have 4, as do the Bills and Vikings
  17. Same is true for college basketball, so let's just cancel the first two weekends. Fine with me, I don't care about basketball. But comparing football and basketball is stupid. You can't play 2 games a week.
  18. So, why does anybody like this acquisition? Where's the benefit?
  19. There's never more than a handful of teams that should be in the championship game. 4 is plenty.
  20. I'm starting to rethink my joy at seeing the Patriots lose again, the train was packed with horrible parents letting their kids out of school to watch a parade today.
  21. Pittsburgh is getting Todd Haley as their OC.
  22. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/college/chi-big-ten-idea-a-college-football-playoff-with-home-games-20120206,0,4747499.story Big Ten floating 4 team playoff with 2 top seeds playing home games and a "neutral site" championship game.
  23. next argument. New England had 2 TEs in their Hail Mary. A team whose top 3 WRs were outcasts from other bad teams just lost the Super Bowl. And the Giants were afraid to run their 2 min defense out against that team. If New England had a good defense I could see them being in the Super Bowl, but......... But what? You haven't made a lick of sense yet. This is the dumbest thing since the last time people said dumb things on this board.
