    But there is, because they dug such a big hole they need to climb out of. It’s not May anymore. The season is more than halfway over and they’ve been mired in a several games under .500 record for a month and a half. If they don’t get within striking distance by august they’ll throw in the towel.

    Yes, people gripe about the lineup every day. But that’s because of who is available on the roster. Hosmer played too much, but he was intentionally brought in to play too much. People begged for Mervis who came in and stunk. There aren’t good alternatives that Ross could be playing more to make this a much better team. That’s on the front office.

    I don’t quite get the idea of noting there are multiple black holes in the lineup and then blaming Ross. It’s not a good roster. The good guys aren’t great and the bad players are terrible. That’s on the GM. Ross probably doesn’t matter. It’s the roster.

    I really disagree. The problem is the “core”. They’re all secondary type guys. What they need is impact, high end players. Sure, if your entire team was Happ and Hoerner you’d be alright. But when those are two of your three biggest pieces…, you’re in trouble.

    What? No. That is not the problem. they cut costs and intentionally got worse it’s hard to get better after intentionally taking a step back. They need to constantly acquire and pay for assets. Their financial advantage is the only thing going for them since they cannot scout or develop.

    If you are stl, why wouldn’t you trade him to the Cubs? He does nothing for the long term competitiveness of the Cubs roster. They stink this year and probably want to shake things up. If the cubs go on a run and win a World Series this year or next, what is this hit you think they take from their fans? Are they not going to show up Next year? If anything, I think the cubs would be more hesitant to trade away prospects that will haunt them for the next 6-8 years, than Stl would be to give the Cubs a couple WAR boost that costs a lot of money.

    Such a weird couple offseasons. From trading away good young players to grossly overpaying mediocre old guys, and you can make an argument that it makes perfect sense.

    After tomorrows game they will have played half the season and best they can hope for is 3 games under .500. That also means the best they can do by Fourth of July is be at .500. They can still cross the mark before the all star break and be in a position to contend. But they can’t really afford too many more 4 game losing streaks. the four game set against Milwaukee could make or break the season, but will most likely leave a lot of questions unanswered.

    Yes, and he was mocked to the hawks with their 3rd/4th picks in round two, and nobody that I saw had him going that early, or as the first goalie taken. It’s not a crazy reach or anything but it was probably not a selection they would have made if they didn’t have 3 more picks that round. again, I dont hate it, but Davidson does seem to be a guy that will not seek to maximize value. Hes got a type, and they really went hard after that specific type of player. I think they’ll need to learn to branch out very soon. You can’t be all 5’11 skating phenoms.
