  1. I highly doubt it. Roberts would have been traded yesterday then. I don't think we get Roberts. we do play the orioles though...man, i hope we give em a nasty wallop every game!
  2. at this point...if we sign lofton then we can probably muse about putting pie in a package...but...until then...who would play center?
  3. wow, just, wow i think i may stop looking at this thread for a while
  4. alright, i resigned to strapping myself in for this one
  5. another day begins...yes...it is early... but the possibilities!!! :pig:
  6. I'm confused why people are worried about Marquis while Dempster is currently considered to be a part of the rotation. I'm no fan of Marquis, but at least he's been league-average three of the past four seasons. If we're going to get another starter, let it be part of an effort to replace Dempster. If the Cubs can replace both with better pitchers, I'm all for it. If not, they can probably get away with Marquis at the back of the rotation. But Dempster should not be starting. you realize that me saying we need someone better than marquis means that i would be comfortable with marquis in the 5-hole right? that means dempster no longer has a slot... as much as i would prefer to not have marquis on this team...that just isn't the case...he is going to pitch and he is going to start...so...to maximize the efficiency of our rotation it only makes sense to slot a better pitcher in the 3-hole (preferably a rightie)...thus making our rotation balanced and more well rounded... Z Lilly ? Hill Marquis dempster can go braid the ivy for all i care, just as long as he isn't in the starting rotation or sniffing the ninth inning...i will be fine
  7. We're not exactly fielding the same team as last season. Pie will finally be given the chance to start everyday..he's a question mark on his production. Soto is the same way. Will the pitching be once again one of the best staffs in the National League, and if not, which pitcher is going to cause that? There are a lot of people on the Cubs roster that are currently slated to start that have potential for great upside, but also potential for great downside. By the deadline we'd have a better idea which ones became good everyday players and which ones need to be replaced. ok...i will agree with the soto and pie factor...although soto can't be any worse than the musical chairs we had at catcher last year... but we already know that we need an upgrade at SS, and another starter better than marquis...i would even be willing to say that an upgrade like roberts over derosa will pay dividends as well...unless somehow he has an outstandingly huge career year...which i doubt will happen... and don't get me wrong, i am excited about fukudome...but i believe there is probably going to be an adjustment period for him...kind of like soriano last season... i may be in the minority here, but i think the smartest thing for hendry to do would be to try as hard as possible to get another starter before the season begins...
  8. can't the same be said for right now in terms of knowing what the needs are on this team? i mean, we are basically fielding the same exact team as last season...we all know what the needs are...it isn't exactly jumping blindfolded into a sea of poisonous snakes...
  9. i was thinking of renting once tonight...good idea or bad?
  10. thank you for summing up why the cubs need a new GM! \:D/
  11. QFT (except for the overmatched part) underwhelmed indeed!
  12. how come we have only been linked to friggin lieber this offseason...? is jim playing secret agent man?
  13. i was kind of hoping i wasn't going to be seeing him this season that was my reasonable expectation
  14. i hope not either...if that is the case you would think that hendry would do everything in his power to make a couple of more additions to this team so lou can have a viable shot at winning another WS
  15. yeah, but the question remains... will he get it done?
  16. I brought this post to your attention in another thread and you have completed ignored responding. So, I'll point it out again. Please show me how in the numbers above Soriano is an extremely overrated lead off hitter. he isn't overrated but it would be nice to get someone in the leadoff slot who doesn't swing for the hills on every pitch
  17. too back those bloody diamondbacks got haren...he would have been a SWEET addition to our roster
  18. god, i hope this thread doesn't mirror the upcoming season or even the rest of the offseason for that matter... lots of action and nothing to show for it
  19. someone go ahead and explain to rich hill that walking cameron is the best option for the upcoming season... god...he eats him for breakfast
  20. marshall and gallagher are fair considering what the indians have offered i would take our deal personally...although i would be a little hard to pass up on adam miller
