  1. Go all in on King, trade for Cabrera, and trade for Jung.
  2. It drives me crazy when we hear about the "supposed" offers made by the Cubs when they fail to sign someone. None of us (including the media) has any idea what an offer was, and the speculation is leaked by the FO or agents. Ricketts and Hoyer have the same credibility as Trump and his staff. Most of the local media insiders are just reporting what Hoyer tells them.
  3. Most of my memories of Burgess was with the Pirates in the early 60's. He was short, round, and could hit like crazy. He played for quite a few teams in a long career that spanned the 50's and 60's. As my username suggests I became a fan when Ernie was a rookie.
  4. Mo reminds me of Smoky Burgess, except Burgess could catch. For those of you who aren't baby boomers, see if you can find video of Burgess.
  5. Hoyer can't get creative when he doesn't want to spend money or trade prospects.
  6. If Long could make the team, we would be in great shape. He could be a platoon DH/1B.
  7. Apparently, you must be dreaming because Swanson and I are two generations apart.
  8. Spending more money puts the responsibility of spending it wisely on Hoyer.
  9. They will put Mo at DH, Suzuki in RF, and pocket the money.
  10. Sounds a lot like the Cubs during the regular season. They pounded all of the weakest pitchers on the lousiest teams, but now they have to face good teams.
  11. It would be great if long could make the ML roster next year. A perfect (and cheap) platoon DH/1B.
  12. All I said was that the call changed the momentum of the game. Actually, it was a very bad call.
  13. One bad call by the umpire changed the momentum in the Padre game. It's unfortunate, but it happens.
  14. Actually, he is a great defensive SS with an average bat making superstar money.
  15. I'll take an average defender with an above average bat for $27 million per year anyday.
  16. He gets a lot of his WAR value because of his great defense. His critics complain about his offence.
  17. Swanson and De La Cruz are very similar in their stats, both for their careers and this season. Swanson certainly has the edge defensively, but Cruz has speed and is a switch hitter.
  18. In sports, you pay for the name and hope for expected return.
  19. My point is that the manager has very little effect on a team.
  20. Most managers get more credit and blame than they deserve. He's not a C+, but the Cubs have the best roster in their division, so they should have a good record no matter who the manages the team. He left the Brewers and look at their record.
  21. He has been in 25 games of the 37 that the Cubs have played since the trade deadline. Nothing in his performance offensively in those games has shown that he deserves more playing time. It would be great if he found his groove, but the way things have been going we certainly don't need another .159 hitter in the lineup.
  22. I do think that if he became more proficient at it, he might reduce his Ks and increase is OBP and BA. With his speed, a bunt single very well end up with him at 2B. I know everybody loves the HR hitter, but he may be more valuable batting .280 with OBP of .330 with 25 HRs.
  23. Yeah, the wind blowing in affects both teams. I got a kick out of Boog & JD talking about how big the outfield is in Colorado when they're hits were falling in while our guys were striking out against the starter with the lowest strike out rate in the league.
  24. HR hitters make more money.
