    Somehow your numbers don't quite come out right. Jed has the money to sign Imai and maybe Okamoto, but can't sign Fairbanks ($13 million) and another $10 million pitcher? Then later you talk about Bregman or another high-end pitcher. Bregman will be $30 million, Imai or another high-end pitcher will probably be $25 million.

    The Cubs (so far) have painted themselves into a corner because of their reluctance to trade top prospects. Ballesteros needs to be part of a package (Wicks, Birdsell, Triantos, Brown, etc.) to obtain a TOR. Alcantara should be taught to play 1B (6' 6") so that he could back up PCA and Busch. Andujar would be a great addition, but Jed will wait too long, and he will sign elsewhere.

    How do we know what The Cubs offer was? The only accurate numbers are when the player signs with a team.

    Have you forgotten who the owner of this team is? Do you remember what they did with the money saved by trading Bellinger?

    My out-of-the-box take is that we go to the Yankees and see if they would trade Stanton for Swanson which would solve their SS problem and give us extra money ($9 million this year, $12 million next year, and $53 million after that ). We get a DH that will probably hit 35-40 HR and frees up Ballesteros as trade bait. Obviously, Hoerner moves to SS and possibly Shaw moves to 2B. Use our truckload of trade assets (Alcantra, Ballesteros, Wicks, Assad, Brown, Birdsell, Long, Triantos, etc.) to get either Cabrera or Gore. I would try to keep Cassie, Rojas, and Wiggins if possible. Sign Imai or King using some of the money. Talk to Texas about trading for Jung for 3B. Sign Fairbanks as a closer. Another possibility is trying for Lowe (for 2B) and Jax which would put Shaw in the pool of tradeable assets.

    I take it as there's no reason for them not to sign Imai, Suarez, and Bergman except they refuse to go over the LT. The second part is a reason for them to not sign those players.

    You mean teams are actually allowed to trade top prospects for TOR pitchers? Somebody should tell Jed.

    You contradicted yourself when you said that " they are counting dollars to try being under the LT" and "There is no reason they shouldn’t get Imai, Suarez (RP) and Bregman this off season".

    It sounds like a whole bunch of gibberish to me. He might do this, but we might not, or we could do this first, but we're not sure and we're not mentioning any names positively.😂

    I agree with Chibears that all of these "rumors" are just reporters matching needs with names. The Cubs have been linked to numerous SP, RP, and 3B because those are their needs.

    One reason is that Cassie is not the starting OF on the Cubs (yet), while Shaw is the starting 3B.

    Unfortunately, it would take eating more than a little of Dansby's contract. I don't think there would be much interest in a 33-year-old SS owed $81 million over 3 years.

    It's hard to criticize an owner that takes his obscene profits and put it into improving the team. If only we had one of those.

    Well, I agree with you if your scenario of 2-3 starters are going to be on the DL by the deadline, but that wasn't what I initially posted.

    Using my scenario, a great reason to trade Taillon at the deadline is to get something of value to complement the roster rather than letting him walk and get nothing at the end of the season.

    Goldschmidt is the obvious choice, but a cheaper option could be Mountcastle.

    Assuming we get a TOR, the rotation looks strong and with Steele coming back in May/June, Jamo would be a strong deadline trade asset.

    A cheap solution to the bench might be trading for Josh Smith who literally plays every position except catcher and pitcher. He had a 3 WAR season with a line of .251/.335/.366 with 23 doubles and 10 HR. Speaking of Texas, I'd love to get Josh Jung.

    I saw that Mountcastle was probably going to be non-tendered. He might be a good fit for platoon 1B/DH/PH, but I'm sure some team will offer him more playing time.

    Cabrera, King, and Andujar would be pretty cheap financially. Luis Urias could be our new Brujan/Berti.

    Hoyer has to wait it out until prices drop and good players are gone.
