  1. Why don't we get 1 OF before we get 2 OFs and start talking about a platoon. Also, anyone who doesn't think Bradley and/or Floyd are questionable hasn't been paying attention. I think Floyd is the best option, but he has had a career full of injuries and Bradley is liable to go off the deep end any minute. I still don't understand why some of you still want to replace or platoon Murton. He has earned the starting job until he proves he doesn't belong there.
  2. Browsing the White Sox MLB boards, they have been saying that Mackowiak fills a couple important roles as utility man. They said if center fielder Brian Anderson fails, Mackowiak can fill in. Or, if Joe Crede has to go back on the DL because of his bad back, Mackowiak can fill in there. Also, as you'd expect, there's a certain South Side chest-beating about how successful Mack has been against the Cubs and how he is from Oak Lawn, a Southwest suburb. Mackowiak is a good addition to the WS, but if Marte returns to the form he showed before last year, The Pirates got the best of this deal. A lot of Sox fans were fed up with Marte's 2005 season and yearly regression. The fact that Mack costs less than Marte is an added bonus. Some said they were happy to have a left-handed bat off the bench.
  3. The Yankees are going to sign Nomar and then trade for Tejada. Jeter will move to CF, Tejada will play SS, Arod at 3B, and Nomar will DH.
  4. These baseball writers now have to "invent" stories to keep their names in the news until spring training. Furcal went for the most money in the fewest years so that he could be a free agent again at 30 years old.
  5. Isn't that the break-even point of SB effectiveness? I wouldn't call that "can't steal to save his life". I think one of the "experts" on Baseball Tonight said that Pierre started last year with a leg injury which hampered his base stealing.
  6. Speaking of Scott Elarton, why don't we talk to the Indians about Coco Crisp and we can send them Williams and Welly to replace Elarton.
  7. I think these baseball writers now have to "invent" stories to keep their name in the news until spring training. Furcal went for the money and also the opportunity to hit the free agent market again at 30 years old.
  8. I like this move a lot. Plus, we need some of the fire that he brings to a team... until he calls Kerry Wood a racist. And Wood breaks his arm taking a swing at him.
  9. From what I'm hearing it looks like it's a safe bet that Manny will stay with the Red Sox (can't get equal value), Abreu will stay with the Phillies (can't get a #1 pitcher for him), and Dunn will stay with the Reds (move to 1B after the Casey trade). I still would like to get Floyd and Mench (or Kearns) for RF and platoon them. Floyd back home in Chicago might be very productive with Pierre batting leadoff, Lee batting 3rd, and Ramirez protecting him batting 5th.
  10. Lowe and Penny give the Phillies a #1 & #2 starter or at worst a #2 & #3 starter. Williams might be a #4 this year and Hill could eventually be a #3 starter. I would assume that Abreu and Bell's contracts would be pretty close to a wash with Lowe & Penny.
  11. Bring in Floyd and either Mench or Kearns to platoon in RF. I think Floyd would be a great addition depending on the cost.
  12. Now that we have a leadoff man, they need a #9 hitter.
  13. If he went to the Dodgers, I'd assume it would be for Bradley. So does Hendry then turn around and make another trade for Soriano and Mench? Interesting. I assume that Mench or Murton would then be a fourth OF? If Walker goes to LA it will probably be for Bradley. Then I can see Hendry go after Soriano and Mench which probably means Murton will be on the bench or at the very most platoon with Mench. The scary thing about all that is going down and the fact that Neifi signed a 2 year deal is that in my opinion Baker and Hendry have made up their minds that at the very least Perez will be platooning with Cedeno but most likely starting at 2B over Hairston. If Perez starts this organization has no clue. Murton platooning with Mench wouldn't make sense since they both bat righty.
  14. How about using 2 of our "untouchables", Pie and Hill, and talk to the Marlins about Cabrera. They have already said that Cabrera and Willis are available. I'm a firm believer in keeping Pie, but a deal for Cabrera would change my mind. Pie, Hill, Guzman, plus ? for Cabrera and right field is set for the next 12 years. He's not a left handed bat, but we can make some exceptions.
  15. That Phillies-Dodgers rumor is really something. Abreu & Bell for Lowe & Penny would certainly give the Phillies the starting pitchers that they need. Apparently the hangup is that the Phillies might not have the money to pay the salaries of Lowe & Penny.
  16. The interesting thing about the Yankee rumor is that if they signed Nomar they would have all 3 of the "great" SS (Jeter, Arod, & Nomar) in the AL.
  17. I totally agree with you. I'm getting tired of all of the naysayers on December 6th. If Hendry gets Lugo, Huff, and Wilkerson or Bradley, this team is easily 10 games better. As you said, we start out with a closer, 2 experienced set-up men, a much better top of the lineup (hopefully Perez isn't part of it), an everyday LF, and a stronger bench (where Macias isn't the 1st bat off the bench). The two things that could stop this team from showing that much improvement are injuries and Dusty Baker. If Baker insists on playing Perez or not giving Cedeno and Murton enough playing time, then we will be in trouble.
  18. Speaking of all your eggs in one basket, I'd love to have someone like Abreu in RF, but when people propose trading, Pie, Zambrano, Lee, Ramirez, or Prior, you had better make sure Abreu will put you into the WS because the Cubs would be out of it for the near future.
  19. If we don't get Lugo, I would hope that JH would realize that Cedeno/Walker would be the best middle infield combo left. Walker isn't the greatest 2B around, but at least you know what you're getting offensively. I would love to have more speed at the top of the lineup, but Walker/Murton, Walker/Bradley, Wilkerson/Walker, or Pierre/Walker would certainly give more RBI chances to Lee and Ramirez than last year's Patterson/Perez. Unfortunately, Walker has become this year's Sosa and JH is obsessed with getting rid of him.
  20. but he would have $10 million more guaranteed with the Cubs offer. When he becomes the next Alex Gonzalez at Chavez, he won't get those last two years worth of money. Yes, the difference is 10M. Do you think that when Furcal hits the FA market again (assuming he doesn't re-up with the Dodgers) that he won't command at least 10.5M/2 years? he's going to have no problem making 50M over 5 years after taking 39.5M/3 from the Dodgers. Maybe maybe not. how do you know he won't get hurt? We didn't sign AGonz did we? I thought we just inherited that contract in the trade. If he has one leg amputated, one of these crazy, out of control GMs will still offer him $8 million per year.
  21. I hope they address their OF problems before going after another pitcher. That is unless the do both in one deal (Bradley & Lowe from the Dodgers).
  22. Not only is it about the money, but also he gets to be a FA again in 3 years and will be 30 years old. There aren't many players who get to cash in on free agency twice, but he might be able to do it.
  23. I hope Nomar goes back to the AL because I think he is very capable of putting up some great offensive numbers (if healthy) and I would hate for him to do it against the Cubs.
  24. Sign Nomar (lol). The Indians supposedly are interested in Nomar for RF.
  25. Can you imagine JH negotiating with DLee's agent for an extension if he had paid Furcal $13 million per year? The numbers would have to start at $20 million per year.
