  1. The Orioles would surely say no for a Bundy/Wood swap, but that alone does not necessarily mean that it'd be a good trade for the Cubs. My big issue with Bundy isn't just the TJS, it's that plus the fact he's pitched like 17 innings in AA and another 1.2 or whatever in the majors. IOW, given the fact that he just had TJS in June, it's possible that you're not getting any above-replacement-level MLB innings as a starter until mid-2015, if not later. I recall that the Orioles hadn't really ever properly stretched him out as a starter in the minors even prior to his injury; that added to the fact he'd likely start in AA once he's healthy, and you could be looking at quite awhile before he's ready -- physically or otherwise -- to start for the Cubs. Now Shark for Gausman AND Bundy would have my attention, but I doubt the Os would do that either. (If I were them I would think long and hard about it, though; as has been mentioned often, the Orioles are similar to the Pirates and that they should absolutely cash in their prospects now while they can, given the perennial strength of the divisions they play in.)
  2. The first closer domino has fallen. Orioles gave up Delmonico for K-Rod a week or so ago, IIRC.
  3. Baez hits his 2nd HR of the game in the 9th inning. Finished 2/5 with 2 HRs and 3 Ks.
  4. Yea, so Mike Trout... 2012: .326 / .399 / .564 (.963 OPS) 2013: .324 / .401 / .562 (.963 OPS)
  5. Sori 4/5 with a HR and the game-winning RBI single vs. the Rays today. Good to see.
  6. Whether it's regarding Garza or Samardzija, I still don't get why it's any kind of news that a team would like to pay a non-free agent price to a player under team control who, accordingly, isn't yet a free agent. No [expletive].
  7. Javy now 1/4 with a BB and 2 Ks through 8 innings. And is it me or has Javy cut down on his errors drastically over the past 1-2 months? Seems like just yesterday when he was committing an error every other game (if not more often), but recently he seems to have reduced his error rate significantly.
  8. Ostensible insider "Assman22" on BleacherNation said this morning that the Cubs are talking to multiple teams (including the Indians and Yankees) about Valbuena, FWIW.
  9. David Cameron ‏@DCameronFG 1m Still can't remember last thing Cubs did that I didn't like. Jeff Passan ‏@JeffPassan 1m Sources: A's late involvement in Garza sweepstakes pushed Rangers to up ante. General sense is Cubs got great return for 2 months of Garza.
  10. Clay Buccholz is scheduled to see the one-and-only Dr. James Andrews for his neck/shoulder "discomfort." You'd think that Buccholz's questionable availability combined with the Rays' ongoing surge, which now has them only 1.5 GBs, would spur the Red Sox to be more willing to part with one (or several) of their more notable SP prospects. You'd think.
  11. I'm assuming that review also includes his performance in the actual game as well. The game in which he hit a HR, if I'm not mistaken.
  12. Baseball America had him ranked as the Nats' 27th best prospect before the season. Given his success at Low A this year, I'd imagine he'd be slightly higher than that now.
  13. Bauer's love affair with walking everyone who steps into the batter's box scares the crap out of me.
  14. Almora finished 3/4 with a BB and an SB. All 3 hits were singles. (His lone out also was NOT a K.)
  15. PS Kane County sucks as a baseball team.
  16. Almora 2/2 with 2 singles and an SB. Guess his butthole feels ok.
  17. The Nats have a few interesting arms in their top 20 (according to Sickels, at least): Cole, Karns, Giolito, Solis, etc. Several of them have already have TJS, though, and I'm not sure we'd be able to pry away Giolito from them given Garza's only a rental. Someone with more knowledge please speculate.
  18. Christian Villanueva up to a .455 SLG% after last night's HR.
  19. Yea so umm...apparently these 3 bros are basically MLers basically none of whom have any chance of being a big-league starter, much less an impact one. Nice work. JJ Cooper ‏@jjcoop36 57s This Ricky Nolasco trade is (another) sign Marlins ownership simply do not care about winning. Wow.
  20. Rumored minor leaguers going to the Marlins are Stephen Ames, Josh Wall, and Angel Sanchez.
  21. Joe Sheehan was saying something on his most recent podcast that for whatever reason, Cole is throwing few (if any) changeup this year, despite the fact that his changeup is supposedly his best pitch. Not sure if it's rumored to be an organizational thing a la Bundy w/ the Orioles or what.
  22. No clue if at all relevant but Skaggs is dominating the Rockies tonight (6IP 1H 0R 0BB 5K). I'd definitely take a Garza / Skaggs swap at this point, though it doesn't sound like the D'backs are on Garza anyway.
  23. David Cameron ‏@DCameronFG 8m Good for BAL, better for CHC. RT @fangraphs: Orioles Upgrade With Scott Feldman; Cubs Continue Stocking Up http://bit.ly/14Lqmqo
  24. Apparently we're also sending Torreyes to Houston? Paul Sullivan ‏@PWSullivan 1m Marmol trade to Dodgers official. Cubs gets Guerrier. Dodgers also get No. 4 intl signing binus slot. Cubs send Torreyes to Houston.
  25. keithlaw ‏@keithlaw 3m Fair both ways, IMO. RT @Hockey442: @Ken_Rosenthal @keithlaw initial thoughts on who got the best value?
