  1. When did Dunn become "toolsy"? Those are the guys the cubs drool over.
  2. The cardinals really? Other than the implementation of the modern farm system. I couldn't tell you one other thing of significant they have done except benefit from the biggest joke of a trade all time (Cleveland Spiders to the Cardinals)
  3. couldn't give up shark is the real answer. There's no way he's accepting a trade to any team right now save the white sox.
  4. Hill? Rich Hill? He still has value? If I was another GM, I'd be trying to Anthony Reyes him out of Chicago. Hill at least has to show some semblence of control before anyone would take a flyer on him.
  5. ahhh thank you someone finally agrees with me on the Zambrano for Josh Hamilton I would agree with it if a top of the rotation type pitcher was coming on a short term deal. However, the market seems to not heading tht way. Where in five year or more deals are going to those types of pitchers. I have no doubt Z has a better chance of staying healthy than C.C through their respective upcoming contracts of course.
  6. Who's saying that? Alot of us just don't want to see the cubs slap a bandaid on a proverbial gaping chest wound and would rather to try to sew it up with possibly unsanitary instruments.
  7. No but I mean if we are building a team to win next year why would we trade the pitcher who was just about the best statistical reliever in baseball year? It's not like we are to expect him to decline suddenly next year. Everyone knows bullpens are a crapshoot, so if you can find a consistently dominating one, you gotta keep him because without him our bullpen becomes a major question mark. especially one that's still cost controlled.
  8. I agree then we can give the job to the Matt Murton of cubs relievers Michael Wuertz.
  9. I want no part of CC unless he takes a short term contract ala Andruw Jones. I got a feeling his contract is gonna be a Zito like albatross in a couple years.
  10. me, but it needs to be through a glory hole So IMB! is Yan from ASiP?
  11. Only way, I'd resign him is if the cubs either think Colvin or another minor leaguer will be ready in a year to be the everyday CF. If not I'd pass and give the platoon job to pie. Because I think the cubs are not going to make any real major moves in the FA market or trade market unless something falls into their lap or it's a part that needs to be traded (Marquis or Marshall most notably).
  12. You want a catcher that tips pitches? Also Hank did hit .292 last year.
  13. You would trade Derrek Lee for a slightly better version of Theriot that cannot play SS. Because that's Chone Figgins.
  14. Move Soriano to 2B and Derosa to right. I want nothing to do with Soriano in RF. He's a barely passable as left fielder (read as he's not Adam Dunn or Manny out there)
  15. If they don't get Prince for Cain of course. I think Lee would accept a trade to a california team to be closer to his family and daughter. However, the Angels and Dodgers probably won't want him as they have Loney and if the Angels don't sign Tex they sound like they are pretty happy with Kendry Morales. The A's might be a option along with the Giants
  16. Strikeouts are overrated. Dunn is a vastly superior player to Soriano. Not the same player outside of the horrendous strike out rate. There's not much difference IMO. Soriano is Dunn of the tools first guys. Dunn is the Soriano of the SABR guys. Both are really flawed players. Dusty? Is that you? Soriano and Dunn are not at all alike. They both strike out a lot and that's it. To say there's not much difference is pretty ridiculous. Soriano swings at everything Dunn swings at strikes. Yeah, pretty big difference. Plus Dunn hits for way more power while Soriano hits for better average and is faster. Same player though...totally. I'm glad you understood what I said thank you. They are not alike as players but in terms of where they stand on the SABR vs. Tools debate they both stand at about the same spot on the spectrum both are hilariously overrated by the guys on their argument side.
  17. Strikeouts are overrated. Dunn is a vastly superior player to Soriano. Not the same player outside of the horrendous strike out rate. There's not much difference IMO. Soriano is Dunn of the tools first guys. Dunn is the Soriano of the SABR guys. Both are really flawed players. i do know this much...when fans of other teams watched the reds or the diamondbacks...they cringed when dunn came up to bat... i think that cringe was always a bit nastier than soriano for us dunn in our lineup this year may have really been a huge difference maker for us I don't have the "Cringe Factor" standings in front of me, but I don't know about that. oh jeez, just because i didn't throw out a stat man...sometimes this board is tedious you mean to tell me you would rather pitch to dunn instead of soriano...i would walk dunn to get to soriano personally I'm not ripping you for not using stats, I'm just saying that I'm sure fans of he Reds and Dbacks, having been exposed to the flaws of Dunn, and not exposed to those of Soriano would probably think differently. You have a different perspective on a player once you see him play games for your team. I know fans of the Reds despised him, and even ones that could look beyond his BA and strikeout totals didn't exactly proclaim him a god like people on this board do. *ding*
  18. They are both flawed, but for different reasons. They aren't that similar, and having one on the team should not prevent a team from employing another. The both the head of the class when it comes to that side of the spectrum's fans. Soriano is a tools guy dream Dunn is a SABR guys dream both are probably the most overrated players on each side of the respective spectrum.

  20. Somebody who posts there needs to show him the season numbers of Roberts and DeRosa and then ask him to explain how Roberts would have been a big upgrade over DeRosa. As fr the second bolded pardt, ask if he was happy during the regular season when DeRosa was having a career year and outperforming Roberts. Or how about whether or not he was happy as DeRosa was one of the 2 Cubs that actually hit in the playoffs. Also, somebody needs to explain to him that we wouldn't have gotten the Fontenot production if Roberts was acquired. What was the overall production from 2B for the Cubs this year? Cubs 2nd basemen produced a 836 OPS. Meanwhile DeRosa's OPS was 20 points higher than Roberts
  21. Yeah more second basemen. Let's just trade Lee and Aram for Roberts and prospects and sign Orlando Hudson. Then we can have a lineup C Soto 1b Fontenot 2B Roberts 3B Hudson SS Theriot LF Soriano CF Pie RF Derosa Maybe they can convince Craig Biggio to come out retirement and catch and maybe sign Chris Burke to take Pie's spot
  22. .233/.373/.528/.901 <------------------- DUNN .219/.332/.410/.742 Little bit different, my friend. Prior to last year the difference between Dunn and Swisher was minimal and it's not like Swisher is washed up by any means. He's still a couple years under 30 starting next season. That being said I want neither on the cubs next year.
  23. It has more to do he wanted out of a team that jerked him around for the previous five years and it was probably a given they would exercise his option. He's publicly stated like two years ago he wanted to play for the yankees.
