  1. No, that's he main problem. He's never right. And what the hell are you talking about with Chicago blaming Steve Stone? I don't think the city of Chicago necessarily blames him for anything, but it seems like all the hatred toward him spewed from the whole debacle in 2004 with Dusty and some of the players. Personally, I don't see how he could be loved, or at least tolerated for so many years and then everyone turns on him over a spat with players. I know he's badmouthed the Cubs since he was let go, but to be perfectly honest with you, if I was let go because I said a few things that just happened to be true and upset some very sensitive multi-millionaires, I think I'd rip the team on the way out as well. Stop saying Stone was let go! The Cubs offered him a substantial contract that he turned down. He thought he'd be hired on elsewhere FT rather quickly but he didn't get back into TV FT until 2 or so seasons ago (he was not offered a full time gig with FOX and he was turned down for the Nationals TV job that he openly coveted). Reluctantly, he took the White Sox radio job and was subsequently moved to TV... So while some in Chicago may love him he's obviously viewed as just a guy nationally. Stone's made it his business to bad mouth the Cubs, in his arrogant snarky way, ever since. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against someone expressing an opinion but there are ways to make a point diplomatically (like he does when he discusses Sox matters).
  2. Thatsv kind of dumb. If anything move Gorz to the rotation and Wells to the pen. My guess is that Russell goes down though. He's been pretty good for the most part but bad yesterday and I believe had one more recent bad outing and knowing Lou, that's probably enough to send him down. Then again, there's also the chance that thyere working on a Gorzalanny trade. If they were looking for a starter, there's no way that even our organization picks Atkins over Gorz, Diamond, or Jackson. My guess is also Russell; Not just because he had a rough outing but because they may need a fresh arm. I don't think Silva will go deep if it's as hot and humid as expected (85 degrees is forecast this afternoon and the wind may be blowing out). I think Silva only lasted 5 or so innings in TX which would be the most recent start that closely mirrors today's expected game time conditions.
  3. I posted about this in the Minor League section because I wasn't sure if it was true. TCR tweeted about this almost an hour ago. They speculate Wells may go down.
  4. Any truth to TCR tweet about Mitch Atkins being recalled (and possibly Wells bring demoted)? My guess would have been Russell because of his recent struggles but we'll see.
  5. I heard Dan Bernstein on the radio the other day trying to educate fans on advanced baseball statistics, and was using FIP like it was the king of all pitching statistics. Whoever was with him (not Boers) was noticing that Jimenez wasnt among the top 10 pitchers in FIP and calling the stat out based on that. Dan's response was to defend that damn stat to the death and kept talking about how its more important than anything else you can look at because it's independant of fielding. I was just shaking my head. These stats are great, but people have to understand that there is not one single stat that determines the value or worth of an individual player. Old farts like Boers have to understand that if a new stat doesn't fit your preconceived notions of who's the best, it doesn't mean they're not good. What's the point of judging a new stat solely based on whether it lines up with old school stats? It was not Boers it was Laurence Holmes and he's not old
  6. Jeeze, Peavy almost got a hit. Wells is done.
  7. Yeah it sucks that the non-Cubs broadcast is on WGN for the rest of the nation.
  8. http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/06/angry-piniella-answers-back-to-stones-critique.html Reading those comments don't do them justice. I just saw Lou's interview on CSN and he was really angry. I don't always agree with Lou but I definitely agree that Stone should shut the hell up about the Cubs. He doesn't agree with everything Ozzie does but he doesn't call him out; Ozzie would roast Stone in the media. I'm glad Lou stood up for himself
  9. People start making crap up about everybody just because the team is bad. Come on, this is some dumb blog [expletive]; Aramis refuses to take the field (in spite of the fact that he's been both bad and hurt but still wanting to get ABs)? Latin divide in the locker room? I'm sure it's no different than any other group of people with commonalities sticking together. Frankly, that's as stupid as believing Lou doesn't care, in part, because he's decided not to shave. What the hell does facial hair have to do with anything? If this team didn't continue to find inventive ways to lose there wouldn't be this speculation. Oh yeah, it's the rookie bullpen guy who carries the candy backpack so Castro wouldn't have done it anyway. I saw Cashner wearing it on TV in Houston.
  10. Theriot's terrible AB with bases loaded stands out even more. BLAH
  11. Marmol always seems to be his worst when he hits a batter. Oh well. Lilly deserved better.
  12. Yeah, I thought it was just me for a second... And Theriot is useless. The video for the Sox game went out on the main channel too which is why I thought it was my satellite. Sox are back on CSN. Marmol hits Weeks but Gomez pops out on a bunt attempt.
  13. Yeah, I thought it was just me for a second... And Theriot is useless.
  14. Theriot is always [expletive] swinging at the first pitch after a walk in front of him!!
  15. As mentioned, that blog says Wilken was afraid another team would snatch up the guy. If he turns out to be the next Oswalt or Lincecum, Wilken looks like a genius. Right now this pick definitely looks suspect.
