I was starting to feel sorry for Brewers fans because, I can understand feeling badly when my team doesn't come through. However, after listening to the bush-league crap their fans are spewing on MIL radio, I no longer sympathize... "The favorite drink of the Cubs is choke-a-cola so you never know what might happen this week..." This coming from fans of a team that once lead by 8.5 games and the reigning champs of finding new ways to lose games with a lead of 3 or more runs. Some other delusional person made the point that Boston once had a large lead (the only problem is it didn't all disappear in 6 days). The Cubs don't need to worry about the Brewers, they can take care of this thing on their own. That being said, I don't believe the Brewers are capable of winning 7 games in a row at this time of the year! Everyone talks about them being 20 games over .500 at home but their only 18-14 there since the All Star Break. That's not going to get it done.
I think you just misunderstood the article. He says that Soriano "stars" in the song. I think it's just that his name was mentioned in the lyrics. It's poorly worded. (shocking) I guess... Sori didn't star in it any more than D-Lee, Aramis, Z and Kerry Wood. lol I think Jay was just adding some fluff to his story about Soriano
If crazy = stupid, then yes. LOL, I hear ya... I just figured out that the guy rapping is the same J. Roman from B96 radio (of Stylz and Roman fame for you Chicago people). I think Mariotti got the story wrong.
Is he serious? What luck! We haven't won squat in almost 100 years! Gimme a flippin' break!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah, that guy keeps spewing the same garbage. It's silly and not true. The Cubs have been the most consistent team in the NL since June 3. In fact, only the Yankees have won more games in all of MLB since that time. After today's win the mark is up to 60-42 (.588) Link
Yeah, Sheets has been lit up in two consecutive starts so it's not inconceivable that the trend continues tonight. The odds are against the Astros but the Brewers bad defense might come into play tonight. Who knows? It would be nice to see their road woes continue!
The Brewers' next ten games are against the Pirates and Reds. This season is OVER. I know. We still have to play the Padres, Mets, Phillies, D'Backs... Nevermind. We play the Pirates and Reds too. Cubs record against the Reds: 5-7 Cubs record against the Pirates: 4-5 Yeah, that's a playoff team right there, folks. You should change your name to Pollyanna. It would suit you. The Cubs will have every opportunity to end the year with winning season records against both of those teams... Being 16 games under .500 on the road (Brewers) isn't playoff worthy either and neither is having a starting rotation patched together with duct tape (Cards) but one of these teams will win (and it might as well be the Cubs). Blown saves happen (it was just Demp's third of the season). For every bad thing you can say about the Cubs there are more for the Brewers and Cardinals. We'll see how the Brewers do on the road; 13 of their remaining 23 games are away from MIL. We'll also find out how the Cards cope without any more off days for the rest of the season. Eventually, that pitching staff is going to fall apart completely (especially with the starters leaving after 2-3 innings).
I'm predicting "Big Game" (yeah, I said it) Marquis shows up. It seems like he pitches well when we really need him. Come on Jason, don't disappoint. FYI, Lowe got slapped around for 7 runs (6 earned) in 4 1/3 last time out.
The only saving grace about this disaster is the Brewers and Cards both lost (with MIL getting it's ML leading 15th loss after leading by 3 or more runs). This also means one more day in first place and another tick off the Magic Number... Having said that, it would have been nice to gain a game on both of them! Come on Gallagher!
The Cubs will be going on a road trip after tomorrow's game and a double header could put a real strain on the pitching staff if the starters can't go deep in the game (not to mention the Cubs lost Z after he pitched 3 innings; they'd have to find an emergency starter if 2 were played tomorrow). Also, tomorrow's weather may not support one game... Finally, don't underestimate the value of the gate. The Cubs (and every other team) would much rather try to reschedule a single game (or schedule a day-night double header days into the future), if necessary, instead of playing a double header the next day because far fewer people would be in attendance on the short notice.
