  1. These idiots at ESPN think the Cubs fans were giving Glavine a standing ovation. It was for Kerry Wood.
  2. Realistically, at 5-1 in the 6th inning and Glavine at 299 wins? Yes it is. No, it's not. They could wait until the late innings.
  3. SHUT UP ESPN. THIS ISN'T THE GLAVINE SHOW!
  4. Yeah, aside from the fact that he hasn't. Damn it DeRosa, what the hell What was his July ERA again? 6? Yeah, he's awesome. Look at his game log. He hasn't been as bad as you make him out to be. As I said in another thread, he's the best 5th starter in baseball too. You're right, I was wrong. He's been bad for 9 weeks. His June ERA was over 5 and his July ERA was over 6. Yeah, great, he can mix in one good start amidst 3 godawful ones. We should be lucky we have him for 3 years. 3 of his last 6 starts have been quality. No 5th starter in baseball has a better ERA than Marquis. Keep the hyperbole coming. Come on, Mizzou. "5th starter" is nonsense. That's a cherry picked fact. He's a bad starter. No contending team should have a 5th starter who pitches with an ERA above 5 for 2 straight months. You know better that that. He had a very good April and a decent May. He's fallen off a cliff since. This isn't my argument but I have to step in because Marquis hasn't been that bad overall. Look no further than the Brewers rotation and you'll see guys who have been more inconsistent. Marquis', arguably, the Cubs least dependable starter yet he hasn't been so bad that the Cubs are blown out every time he pitches. This wouldn't be an issue if the Cubs had scored some runs tonight. Hell, I'm still not ready to concede this game (although, Eyre could make this a moot point). The Brewers have a great offense, we don't. If we try and crap our rotation down to theirs, someone will win this division by 5 games. Exactly...all our pitching has to do is come back to earth and we are toast. come back to earth? I don't know why people contend that our pitchers are pitching well over their heads. There are 52 games remaining of a 162 games schedule. I think it's too late in the season to say that they have been lucky. Glavine has been lucky tonight however! Lineouts all over the place.

If we try and crap our rotation down to theirs, someone will win this division by 5 games. The Cubs have better pitching. More often than not, the Cubs will keep their opponents under 4 runs. That's a huge difference between the 2 teams. I'm not going to freak out about this game or Marquis.

  7. for the cubs it is. lol, yeah I know this is a game thread and we all get emotional so I'm just going to leave it alone.
  8. 5 games, 10 games or 1 game, it really doesn't matter.
  9. That ball probably should have been caught by DeRo. Get this out here Marquis and it's only a 3 run deficit. That's certainly not insurmountable.
  10. Just throw the ball in Pagan, don't bother looking in to see if he's tagging...
  11. WTH Joe Morgan? I guess Castillo never played for the Marlins. It's not like he hasn't played at Wrigley Field.
  12. I know why you are saying that, but I believe it's dead wrong. I believe we would have needed Sori to go on a prolonged hot streak to get to the playoffs anyway. If he's out, that has no chance of happening. Murton's not going to get more play time, if that's what you are thinking. Lou hates Murton, it's pretty clear. The current run has been accomplished with Soriano putting up some very mediocre numbers. Losing Sori would hurt but it doesn't mean the season's over. The current 'run' has actually been over for awhile now. We're 5-5 in our last 10 games. Soriano was extremely hot when we were actually hot as well, though not for the entire time, it takes multiple players getting hot to put together a prolonged streak like we had. Murton won't play more. Look for Pagan to get the play time. This lineup is now severely underpowered. If that works out, then fine. I still think it's a huge loss. Nah, it's not over. The Cubs still have the best record in NL since June 3 (36-20 the Yanks are first in MLB at 37-20. The next closest NL team is the Rockies at 30-26).
  13. Season over? LOL, it's not like Sori was carrying the offense on his back. Heck, the Cubs won games when both DLee and Aramis were out of the lineup (and they are far more important to the offense). If the Cubs lose Soriano to the DL they will be fine.
  14. Yep because we have enough power to back it up He hasn't been hitting for power lately. If they can replace him with someone who can get on base at a higher level it will be fine. right quad strain...
  15. Hopefully, it's just a cramp for Sori but even if he's hurt, it's not a devasting loss IMO.
  16. I'm late but, Cubs Win! Cubs Win! Cubs Win! It's also great to know that I can go to bed knowing the Cubs are in first place.
  17. ESPN News says the Pirates sent Raji Davis and PTBNL to the Giants.
  18. BBTN reporting that Rob Mackowiack is going to the Padres from the Sox for a MiL'er
  19. Duncan's voodoo must be on strike! It isn't helping Maroth and Wells.
  20. The Cubs are a half game out of first place and a full game ahead in the loss column. My how things have changed in a month; on June 23rd they were 8.5 games out. WOW!
  21. A fan has run out onto the field...
  22. Wow, the Brewers are in 100% CHOKE mode and I'm loving it!
