  1. It's really easy in my book. Kenny Williams comes off as an arrogant loud-mouth. His players won a championship but 2005 looks very much like a fluke right now. Good GMs build teams that are consistently in contention (which is why I contend that people give him too much credit). The topic was Hendry. Bringing up Williams adds nothing to the discussion.
  2. That isn't entirely true...he does go on sports radio, but often yes questions are softballed to him. As for KW and his WS ring, that is 3 years ago and really meaningless at this point. I have NEVER heard Hendry go on the air and take direct questions from fans. You're right, when he appears on WGN Radio, Kaplan asks fans to email questions-filters out the more controversial ones and then asks the obvious ones. How about a little give and take with the people who pay your salary, Jim? Kenny Williams at least has a plan. Funny that Jim Thome came to Wrigley and Hendry barely talked to him. Williams snapped him up pretty fast. Jim Thome grew up a Cubs fan and wanted to play for the team but the Cubs had other plans. By the way, what have the sox won since they acquired Thome? Also, you apparently don't really listen to sports radio in Chicago because Williams hasn't fielded questions on The score (the home of the Sox) or ESPN AM 1000 (the former flagship) almost two years. Hendry took questions from fans last season on Mike Murphy's show and he also did it on the Mike North show. At least be truthful. Oh yeah, the sox plan is to try to win more than 72 games and stay above the Royals.
  3. Hype surrounding Octavio Dotel. Who knew? I think he's living off of reputation. He didn't have a particularly dominating year in 2007 (outside of his ability to strikeout hitters). His WHIP wasn't impressive at all. He would benefit more by returning to the NL with a good defensive team.
  4. I heard Mike North mention this as a done deal too; It was based on a story from the Dominican Republic. Apparently, now the agent is saying there are a myriad of other teams chasing him... Sounds like hype to me.
  5. Just heard it on The Score.
  6. hmmm...this seems pretty ok... how would he "know" that? North's just talking about rumors. I wouldn't put too much faith in what he said (besides, he said Pie, Colvin, and others...)
  7. Let us know if it's anything substantial. I'll wager on that not being the case though. North asked him about steroids, Miggy, and Selig (and I think he was alluding to Roberts). Hendry tried to stay neutral on the subject of commenting on other team's players ( and GMs) in general. He also refused to discuss the names of players that have been mentioned in trade rumors (tampering). Finally, Hendry's hoping to pull off "two more trades" before Spring Training. He also said that the only players that are untouchable are those with no trade clauses; it is possible that another team could convince him to part with guys they assume are on the Cubs untouchable list. FYI: the podcast will be posted later on The Score website. Hmm, I didn't hear that quote. What question was that a part of? My guess is those two trades would be Roberts and a platoon outfielder to go with Pie. That would probably mean that Murton is gone in the Roberts deal, but who knows for sure. He said it more than once but I remembered it because he repeated it towards the end. He was responding to the question about the Cubs being in the playoffs again this year; he said he felt they had somethings left to do this winter and he wanted to get two more trades before ST... He also recognized that to get the trades completed he'll have to get the other team to oblige and compete with other teams who are after the same players...

  9. So now Levine is saying the Cubs and O's are still talking about Robert. I just heard the update on ESPN 1000. They will be talking baseball soon (now Bulls).
  10. FYI, I just heard that Hendry will be on Mike North's show tomorrow morning at 9am CT. It would be nice if he had something else to talk about...
  11. Have you been talking to Ryan or Mike? Cause the Bayou Basher isn't a Cub any longer. Huh? Who isn't a Cub? Todd Walker. I see. That's what was strange about it. When I searched for Bayou Basher, the first thing that popped up was an article or two about Mike Fontenot, and the second reference to Bayou Basher was an article or two about Ryan Theriot. Nowhere on the first two pages of results is a reference to Todd Walker as the Bayou Basher. Since the term seemed to reference two current Cubs, it didn't make sense that he said the Basher was not a Cub anymore without some type of knowledge. Bayou Basher is what Chip called Walker during the infamous broadcasters vs. players war of 2004. Walker apparently complained that Chip and Stone didn't give players nicknames like the Hawk so Chip and Stone came up with one inane nickname after another for an entire broadcast. It was an inside joke. I think they also called Walker "The Louisiana Lumberjack" at one point. They also called him "the Louisiana Larruper."

  13. Hmmmm...Perhaps a Trade brewing? Hmmmmm, has Marmol continued to pitch? Last I read he was being converted to closer, from setup man, for Licey. Marmol pitched as recently as Saturday. OK, thanks

  15. While you're calling people out, I have to ask why you keep bringing up the All Star game like it really equates to a player's worth? Sorry, but I just couldn't ignore it again!!!
  16. Dude, I don't want him either, but he got a minor league deal with an invite. Pardon my french, but BFD. Obviously a precursor to Wuertz going to the Yankees for Melky... Obviously
  17. Hmmmm, I think you're right but I can't remember. Anyway, Stone just said it on the radio (he's doing his weekly show with Mike Murphy). Stone irritates me the more I listen to him...
  18. Oh God, now we have Steve Stone, on The Score, advocating the Cubs get Eckstein if they can't or don't want to pay a high price for Roberts. No thanks. edited to correct spelling
  19. Maybe this deal has been completed but the O's want to trade Bedard first then figure out their 40 man situation: Rosenthal That's along the lines of what I was thinkin. Have you spoken to your guy since this morning, BTW? No but I texted and was told nothing has changed. This morning, the last thing he said to me was that Hendry was upset, the first time around, when Murton, Gallagher, and Patterson's names were floating around because he said those players had not really been used in concrete terms (yet he did go on to say that the final deal will probably include two of the original names). Anyway, I don't know anything for sure but I trust him.

  21. Sportscentral starts in about 30 minutes on WGN radio. We'll get a chance to hear first hand what Kaplan has to say about this purposed deal. I don't believe the Hill and Pie rumor.
  22. Oh goodness, 1300 is about to have loud-mouth Mike North on the show. They (1300 & 670 The Score) must be sister stations because their individual sites are almost identical. Both are CBS radio stations but 1300 is an ESPN affiliate.
  23. From OH The OF is probably Murton. Listen to 1300 for the updates live
