    The guy didn't really say anything of interest. IMO, he sounded like he was afraid to offend some of the O's fans by speculating on the trade. Either he doesn't know or he was keeping his true feelings close to the vest; at one point he admitted that the O's have been shopping Roberts for a position player(s) and pitching then he says he thinks it's "70%" that he doesn't get traded. Which is it? So he refused to spout off a tirade of rumor and innuendo and present it as if he has "inside information" so everyone should just believe him? There's a novel concept. OK, I'm not sure what you're getting at here...

    If we have enough prospects to do this after the Roberts deal, I will be very happy. There are rumors that ML players could be used to acquire a starter (or at least be the center piece). The AJ Burnett talk mentions DeRosa and Dempster (and perhaps others). The Cubs have parts to trade however, some of the trades could leave them thin against injury and or ineffectiveness.

    Some of the angst surrounding trading both Marshall and Gallagher (which has yet to be seen) is based on the idea that the Cubs would be left thin in the starting rotation. It doesn't take into consideration that the Cubs may acquire a quality starter that makes Marquis a decent fifth starter option. As stated earlier, if the Cubs start the season with Marquis and Dempster in the rotation I will be disappointed but I'm trying to not get upset until I see how this offseason ends... BTW, Mike Murphy will have some guy on from the Baltimore Sun soon. Listen live The guy probably won't be able to verify anything but it might be a good listen.

    Someone made a great point at OH: the O's 40 man needs to be reduced before this deal with the Cubs can be finalized. It's very possible that the O's are working with another team, on a separate deal, that moves some players. One of their Insiders mentioned that they will be trading pitching soon (Bedard is assumed). Perhaps there will be an exchange of player that makes room on the roster. Or it could be a small transaction that makes room on the 40-man.

    Once again, put a lot of credence in this or none at all. It's certainly subject to change, as this whole strange process has a few times. Crap, Hendry bid against himself again. Zambrano and Pie going over to the O's Edit: Oh and some credit for Nav please. He posted this a half hour ago and no one really said anything. Do you have a source Nav or was that just an educated guess? Yes, but my source is media not within either organization (although, I know he has contacts within the Cubs). He told me this morning that the names were wrong; to paraphrase, he said that two of the "original" names may still be included (but he didn't want to elaborate further--this was after disputing the deal altogether only to call me back and say that the deal is true but the names were not all accurate). My educated guess is that Murton is included.

    FWIW, my source also says the deal is final but one of the names is wrong; he wouldn't say which... Take it with a grain of salt but I think he really knows something.

    FWIW, Bruce Levine stated that he knows Stone declined a fulltime TV booth offer by the Sox that would have paid him $600,000 per season (I can't remember how long the proposal was for). Anyway, my guess is that Stone is holding out for the Cubs job (speculation is that new ownership may make changes in the booth OR Stone could be leaving himself available for the "consultant" position, that he's been lobbying for, within the new ownership group).

    Sosa was mentioned in relation to amphetimines not steriods. And it was about overhearing a conversation that Sosa was having with Tejada. I know it's hard not to try to drag Sammy through the mud on this one, but let's at least get our facts straight. Facts straight? Where did I mention steroids? I said he was mentioned in the affidavit; which is true. edit: The Trib article was updated this morning:

    I don't trust ESPN to have or tell the whole story. The Trib story is a reprint from the NY Times. Beside, ESPN's too busy trying to clear Clemens' name to concentrate on other matters...

    Maybe, the Cubs aren't looking to sign So for a platoon with Pie; maybe, he's going to play the same role for Fuk that Jack played for Rodman on the Bulls that one season...

    I'm so sure that's true. I don't think these rumors are out of left field. I also think the MItchell Report mention and Fuku's press conference could have pushed things back (plus, the O's have other deals they sre juggling).

    give that kid a chance too...i am secretly praying he wins the job during ST...anybody but theriot... is fontenot still on the team because if he is he shouldn't be If Roberts is traded for there almost certainly won't be room for Fontenot anymore. And his ABs from last year will be DeRosa's ABs this year. :D Fontenot for Bedard. Straight up. A guy can dream, can't he? LOL, I'm not sure if that's dreaming or evidence of a crack addiction. :lol: J/K

    An out is an out. You do realize that DLee also strikes out over 100 times per season on average? Anyway, getting back to your original point, you talk about "leadoff hitter" like it's a position on the team. One could make the argument that someone with a high OBP could/should be at the top of the lineup but Soriano isn't going to kill the Cubs there. The Cubs got good production from that spot last season. BTW, what is a traditional leadoff hitter?

    Why do strikeouts matter? An out is an out. Wishing that he had a higher OBP is one thing but I don't agree with your criticism.

    Phil Rogers alludes to the possibility of the Sox trading Cabrera to the Cubs if they can not sign him longterm. I don't know if this has been discussed between the teams or if Rogers is puling this one out of thin air.

    Everyone is culpable to some degree. However, I don't think that the managers are suppose to police what the players do on their own time. It's a weird situation for managers and GMs because they are in the business of winning but if they care about the health and safety (medically and legally) of their players they may have to do things that are counter to winning. These are interesting tidbits from the Report that give us some idea about who knew or didn't know... Looks like Dodgers officials were well aware of what their players were up to and only wanted to get rid of them when their production dropped (not that I can blame them). BTW, I guess they meant to say 2002 above. Knowing all this, the Red Sox traded for him anyway and he was terrible. LOL, I guess his supply dried up from TX to BO.
