  1. What a load of garbage. It's like they are trying to put the spotlight on the Cubs so as to deflect from what's going on with the Yankees Yeah, I guess by entire Cubs pitching staff they are implying that everyone of the former Cubs on the Report, and the bogus list, were doing PEDs while Cubs... Nice assumption. :eyeroll: Prior Wood Mercker Farnsworth Heredia (who was suspended under some other team's watch) et al
  2. You had to figure that Roberts' name would be on the list. IIRC, he was caught up in Grimsley's mess. This isn't a surprise.
  3. I'm happy that they aren't on the list but now that MSNBC has smeered them the suspicions won't go away.
  4. Yeah but those guys might not have all been using as Cubs. Lawton claimed that he started them as a Yankee because, in part, of the terrible way he played for us and fear of not getting another contract.
  5. I'm disappointed in Wood but no one ever asked him directly about PEDs. Prior however vehmently denied doing them even with his Tom House association. Also, I have more sentimental feelings for Wood (mostly because he has pitched longer for the Cubs). I'm convinced that Prior knew he was on the list and he wanted to leave because the media would have been merciless with him! He basically called all of the local media guys liars and said they were on a witch hunt and now, apparently, he has been caught. Quite frankly, I'm glad he's gone now because having both of them on the team would have caused too much drama; much more than usual. There's no denying that the local media doesn't like him but much of it was his own doing.
  6. I'm disappointed that Woody is on the list but from a selfish standpoint, we didn't even get a championship out of it and a number of the bigger names on that list have won!
  7. You don't think Prior's partially responsible for this move? His unwillingness to give the team an extra year (when everyone knows he won't pitch until mid-season or later). If some team had been willing to take him in a trade he would have gone that way but no team wanted him because the writing was on the wall; it was obvious he wasn't going to relent and now the other teams can try to sign him for pennies without giving up talent. . He didn't want to be a Cub and he forced Hendry's hand. Say what you want about Jim but he has a reputation for beiing fair and honest with players (and usually will work to find them soft landings when things don't work out). I truly believe that IF Prior is ever successful again, it was never going to be as a Cub (and I don't think it's going to happen anywhere).
  8. Prior wasn't in Chicago nearly as long as Wood was. He was also abused by the coaching staff and treated terribly by the fans and media. But since it's a business, that's how the decision should be made. It would have been in the best interest of the Cubs to tender him a deal. I've heard that he was very nasty to the media which made them take off the kid gloves with him... I wish Bruce Miles would add some insight into Prior behind the scenes (both in the locker room and with the media). Aside from that, I think it was time to move on. If he goes on to be a successful pitcher elsewhere then so be it. I don't think he wanted to be apart of the team.
  9. Technically,he isn't allowed to speak openly about another team's player; that's tampering. Someone should get after Towers for his "morning walks" with Prior!! On a side note, I really think Towers put a bug in Prior's ear about pitching in his hometown. It's wrong by itself but he brazenly talked about it in the media which requires some sort of sanctioning from MLB (and I read the Cubs are likely to file a claim against him in hopes of recovering monetary damages).
  10. FYI, he'll also be on the Mike North Morning Show (yuck) tomorrow around 8:20am CT.
  11. Me too but there will probably be a PR hit because I expect his name to be on the Mitchell Report.
  12. According to the dudes on the Comcast Sports show a few minutes ago, Dan Plesac said earlier today that he felt Fukudome and Roberts were an "either or proposition" and that the Cubs wouldn't go after both of them. Which led to a discussion of which one would you prefer and a lot of discussion on how much Fuk's Japanese stats should be discounted. Plesac was on Comcast yesterday and he doesn't know any more about Hendry's plan than the average fan.
  13. The discussions have been very limited. It's Bears season and a bad team seems to get people talking more than having one that plays to expectations.
  14. I can assure you that Towers would be willing to wait another year for Prior. If you believe the recent reports, Prior will be nontendered tomorrow and Towers will be able to pick him up without giving up any of his talent. If Prior refuses to add a year or option then he's going to have to go... ESPN's Jerry Crasnick believes that the Cubs will tender Prior a contract. I guess it's a matter of opinion because Buster Olney was on the Waddle & Silvy show this morning talking about how Prior's most likely going to be nontendered. The local media is saying the same. I think the Cubs will try to get him to sign a two year deal or they will make one last effort to include him in a trade. Tommorrow's the deadline so we'll all know soon enough.
  15. I can assure you that Towers would be willing to wait another year for Prior. If you believe the recent reports, Prior will be nontendered tomorrow and Towers will be able to pick him up without giving up any of his talent. If Prior refuses to add a year or option then he's going to have to go...
  16. It's going to be interesting to watch the White Sox on this. They've had a lousy off season thus far coming off a lousy year with an owner, who loves sticking it to the Cubs. I think they're a legitimate threat. I think they're at the point this offseason where they might feel desperate to sign someone, just to try to offset the failed Hunter and Cabrera attempts. They don't normally do 5-year deals, although they offered one to Hunter, so it'll be interesting to see if the Hunter offer was an abberation or a shift in their policy. If the Cubs land Fukudome, do you think Pie becomes trade bait, or will Fukudome play right field? I think including Pie in a trade may be dependent on the Cubs move(s) following Fukudome (assuming they sign him). If the Cubs also acquire Brian Roberts they may be inclined to put Fuk in CF and DeRo in RF or, they could keep Pie and look to trade DeRosa in the same or a subsequent deal.
  17. Lou is on record saying that Theriot is the starting SS, what more do you want them to do? There is a definite argument for upgrading at SS because Theriot's offense is subpar. Who knows, the Cubs could be considering getting a SS via trade (and maybe their public support is a smokescreen). I do know that we need to upgrade elsewhere if Theriot's going to remain a starter.
  18. He is a class act and it really stinks that he is being jerked around like this. Isn't something we haven't seen in the past though, right? He does seem like a nice guy but I'm not sure he's being jerked around. DeRosa has spent the vast majority of his career being shuffled around the field so this should come as no surprise to him. I know the Cubs told him he would start at 2B, which he did to start the season (but his injury, coupled with the injuries and suspension of other players, helped to cement his role as super sub). Few teams will guarantee a player, especially one who can play multiple positions, that he'll never be moved. I can recall some quotes by Lou last season that also lead me to believe that they told him he would have to sub when needed. Hell, I remember DeRo admitting as much in the first few interviews I heard from him.
  19. The show's podcast will probably be available tomorrow if it isn't already available. He was on the Waddle & Silvy show. You can find it at ESPNAM1000.com
  20. I think he's doing his work behind the scenes. Last year, after proclaiming that he wouldn't be outbid for Soriano, he was very quiet until the signing was announced
  21. Towers is making me angry. His constant comments to the media, tampering with Prior, and pursuit of Fuk are all making me sick!
  22. Think about the herpes that would invariably come along with her. she's too much of a tease to have herpes Tease? Correct me if I'm wrong, but tease implies that she's ultimately unattainable... She's been linked to just about everyone in Hollywood. BTW, is she still running around with RayJ?
  23. This would definitely work. Japanese dudes dig busty blondes even more than we Americans dig adolescent asian chicks. We? :-&
  24. It's not a bad place to live... It's not about living there, I'm sure he's talking about a hitter choosing a pitcher's park over a small field. These guy play half a year in a city and can make a permanent residence anywhere. How many of the Cubs players live in Chicago during the offseason? Not many. Most live in warm weather states, or outside of the country, to avoid Midwest winters.
