  1. Well, that's what you're going to see b/c the people doing the hiring subscribe to that baseball philosophy. No Dierker. Maybe a Francona, but he's seemingly not available anymore. Girardi is a guy that leads by example. Personally, I've always prefered that type. Guys like Girardi are leaders. Guys like Baker are managers. We need his fire and discipline in this clubhouse. A fat lefty setup man who complains about the fans needs to get his priorities straight. Winning is what matters, not keeping the media, fans, or the Front Office happy. Girardi made that clear in Florida. Are we really back to the "fire and discipline" argument? Those are not the 2 traits that kept us from winning this season. Those are not traits than really ever make a difference between a winning team and a losing team. Those are not important traits in a manager of a baseball team. Yeah, we do need discipline, but that wasn't the main part of my post. "Girardi is a guy that leads by example. Personally, I've always prefered that type. Guys like Girardi are leaders. 2. The biggest positive in BB's favor is his MAN LOVE FOR MURTON!!! Hendry allows a lot of player acquisition input from his manager (Dusty was 90% according to Hendry). I'd have to believe that BB keeps Murton, especially since BB has noted that the "big bats" available in LF don't give that much more production than Murton for the money and Murton is developing nicely. I'll be happy with either BB or Girardi in the dugout. Louie P can wait another couple of years for an immediate contender.

  4. Hi Len! What kind of mid-game snacks are you and Bob into? (I know Bob sneaks a beer or two in there - my hero) What is Mark Prior's status? There have been rumors (Will Carroll, BP) that he has the same shoulder injury Woody had going into this past season. No performance at the Len and Bob's Bash? Not even some sweet air guitar? lol At what point does GM Jim Hendry become truly accountable for his failures, rather than merely stating that he accepts some of the blame for the on-field product? Could anyone have managed this club to above .500 this past season? I really don't miss Stoney and Caray in the booth anymore. Thanks for all your efforts!
  5. Still hanging on to 2003. Jim get over it! It was three years ago... If Dusty's responsible for '03, what have you given us, Hendry? It should be your azz on the block right now. You're the architect of this mess.
  6. Hey Eyre, less crying about the fans and more winning next year ummmkay.
  7. Billy Beane's s**t doesn't work in the playoffs!!
  8. Conference is on ESPN News as well, like someone else said.
  9. Jones (other than his arm) isn't the problem. Our MIF, CF, rotation, and closer are. Izturis is an injury nightmare waiting to happen (that he's even good is debateable). Cedeno is AAAA at best. Pierre is garbage, plain and simple. I'm glad he isn't upbeat on coming back. Good ridance. Our rotation is a joke other than Z and Hill. How Hendry fills that out will determine our success next year. Injury projects and 2nd tier free agents won't do it. Jones's problems with throwing accuracy are fixable given a coach that addresses the problem instead of letting anyone do whatever they want, whenever they want just so everyone stays happy.
  10. Will Carroll reported that Prior has the same shoulder injury Woody had going into this season (via Cubs sources). I don't know about that source, but Carroll has a great track record as far as Prior is concerned. If it's true, we shouldn't count on Prior at all. Trading him is stupid as his value is rock bottom, but we should fill out the rotation w/o taking him into account. MacPhail said earlier today that the Cubs should take health into account from now on (DUH!!!) when making player acquisitions. There's hope.
  11. MiniBake: "What the f*** is this?" BigBake: "My lineup. " MiniBake: "No wonder yer gunna get fired." BigBake: :?:
  12. It'll be interesting to see how MacPhail's departure and Dusty's extension/good-bye affect Ramirez's decision on staying in Chicago. Personally, I think Hendry will keep him here and that's why Hendry didn't get the axe. Lord knows he deserved it.
  13. Having a marketing guy as President is great! We don't need a "baseball guy" a.k.a. someone who thinks OBP is a "fantasy baseball geek stat." MacPhail was one of the key guys keeping the hardcore scouting system alive in the Cubs org. Now he's gone. There aren't a lot of SABR guys ready to step in as Pres. GM's make the baseball decisions anyway, but presidents get to pick the GMs. Once Hendry fails, we may be seeing a new approach. Businessmen aren't opposed to statistics.
  14. OMG!!! OMG!!! Deliver us from evil! Whoohoo
  15. Zambrano and Murton would get him, but I would be worried about that deal afterwards. Zambrano's approaching FA. What's the Marlins' payroll again?
  16. Hendry said Monday was the day he'd discuss this, not today. Say what you want about Hendry, his word is good.
  17. If the Cubs offered me Pie, EPat, Murton, Hill and Veal, I'd still say no if I was the Marlins GM. We just don't have the talent to get Cabrera in a bidding war, which there will be if he ever hits the open market. Pretending otherwise is ridiculous. Our farm system is devoid of top tier talent.
  18. Umm the feds busted into his home and threatened to give him a long stay in federal prision if he didn't name viable steroids users. What does that have to do with him telling the truth? If I was him, I'd just throw out some high profile names and sprinkle in some lesser known nobodies who I knew would be easy targets. The best lies have a nugget of truth and an untied ending. People can claim whatever they want under whatever pressure is applied. None of it is true unless verified by other independent sources.
  19. Personally, I hate Clemens, so I tend to beleive this story somewhat, but still...what evidence is there that Grimsley is telling the truth?
  20. Even Hendry can read splits. I think Dusty might have been the stumbling block with Jones WUERTZ FOR CLOSER!!!! Whooohooo!!!! Where's TT? He'll be happy about that bit, lol. I think the Royals became a good trade partner for us when Moore stepped in. Schuerholtz and Hendry love each other. It's only natural that a little bit of that rubbed off on Dayton Moore. Think the Royals would take Cedeno as the MIF prospect? lmao I'm sorry, but don't we need a platoon partner in RF that can actually hit lefties? Isn't that the whole point? 2006 versus LHP Brown: .239/.316/.471 Jones: .229/.257/.420 Sanders: .268/.385/.443 Sanders isn't too bad vs. lefties, but Brown...meh, he mashes righties like Jones. Hoops, do you think we'll keep Murton in LF? How high are the Cubs on him?
  21. Where are you hearing this "word"? Link or source please? Please, source. This would be terrible, terrible news. No Aramis means 2007 is almost certainly lost. I heard it from my friend (in the RF bleachers today) during the game via phone (I was stuck at home, grrrr). I guess it's on BCB too. It's just a RUMOR as far as I know. He was just talking about it with some dudes who sat next to him. Supposedly they knew some front office people. How credible that is, I don't know. I have no idea what BCB's source(s) are. It could be just talk that went around the bleachers today. I certainly freakin' hope so.
  22. Well, personally I think both Aramis and Pierre are gone. The rumor going 'round is that Aramis is going to break his verbal commitment to Hendry and test the FA market. Pierre is lukewarm on Chicago after all the poor treatment Jones and Baker got. I think we end up rebuilding, even though Hendry thinks we can contend next year. No way we contend in '07 without Aramis.
  23. I'm pretty sure Pie was leading off this season in AAA as well. The bunting I don't know about. Stealing bases isn't a bad thing provided you do it well, which he was doing the latter part of the season. Use that plus-plus speed. Right now he's just fast enough to run himself off the bases. Less CS is a good thing. Bunting sucks.
  24. If that's the case, then I want to be incredibly weak. But seriously, I guess this disease doesn't have a cure. It's kind of surprising that Jada had this happen now. Usually it's a newborn thing, no? This really has been a messed up season for the Cubs. It's been so bad that losing doesn't even hurt that much by comparison.
