  1. So Lilly is still not any further along than yesterday, then?
  2. Is there some new news they reported on either pitcher? Or is just the same Lilly stuff we've been hearing for a few days?
  3. Isn't Burnitz available this offseason? That sounds like the kind of mistake Hendry would make (again).
  4. I'm absolutely with you there. Jones is a better option than Lofton or Lugo in center.
  5. Guys, guys, the Cubs have gotten great returns on players in the past even when everyone knew that Hendry was desperate to trade them. Just look at what we got for Sosa and Patterson!
  6. Makes me especially curious to hear his comments on ESPN News. Unfortunately, I don't get ESPN News.
  7. I'm with you 100%. I'm a bit ashamed to admit I booed him during the epic Barrett grand slam game against St. Louis. It was a stupid thing to do, but everyone was doing it. He then came out and hit a three run homer to notch his first Cubs hit.
  8. According to the Denver Post, Jacque formally requested a trade at the end of the season. Check it out. If Jacque wants out, I'm more than happy to accommodate his wishes. Ideally, I'd love to bring in Ryan Church as the center fielder after Jacque left town.
  9. For what it's worth, Steve Phillips says a trade involving Carlos Marmol and Jacque Jones for Jason Jennings is being discussed. He also says he expects Lilly to sign with the Cubs tomorrow.
  10. ESPN seems to think we're closing to acquiring Lilly. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2685697 I'm a big fan. Also on rotoworld now: ESPN's Jayson Stark says free agent Ted Lilly is rumored to be signing with the Cubs. It's believed the Cubs' offer resembles the four-year, $37.5 million pact that Jarrod Washburn signed with the Mariners alst season. The Blue Jays are also bidding for Lilly, and the Yankees, Orioles, Rangers and Giants are believed to have some level of interest.
  11. I'm fine with Lilly being the 2nd banana to whomever else they sign this year. I just think it's inaccurate to paint him as a reliable #3. He's never even thrown 200 innings in his career. I do like that his name is Theodore Roosevelt though. I keep hearing that about him-doesn't his 2002 numbers add up to 200 innings exactly though? Only if you add up his innings with NY and OAK, and then add that total to his total (ie, doubling the actual total of 100) I would think you would have to-I mean, it was 2002, and he did pitch those innings. So he has reached 200 innings once, and gotten within 3 innings another time. That's still not great, but it's not as bad. I'm awful at math and I'm laughing at this.
  12. I'm all for this signing, if it is indeed true. Lilly is just the kind of guy we need.
  13. The names are definitely back on the jerseys for next season, right?
  14. You heard your stories wrong. Maddux never threw that hard and he's never had the movement that Z has.
  15. I don't think it's a terrible hire, even though I've been more of a Girardi guy from the beginning. Just gotta hope Lou's reputation as someone that can adapt to his personel holds true. Bruce, what do you think about the possibility of bringing back Todd Walker to play second? Would the Cubs have any interest?
  16. I'm talking optimistically, here. Though in all honesty, I don't see Aramis leaving.
  17. Scott Moore continues to impress. I think he could be a really good player in terms of spelling D-Lee and Aramis next year... perhaps the corner outfielders too.
  18. Eh, too bad Murton couldn't get that insurance run in. Cedeno certainly won't. Maybe Lee can get some insurance in with two outs.
  19. Another chance to get a run. Don't frigging blow it!
  20. Personally, I think Pagan could've made it to third on that play. I hope it doesn't come back to bite us in the ass.
  21. Impossible! Cardinals fans don't boo! That Zambrano error won't even shave his ERA a bit. Damn.
