  1. how can this guy be making $4 million a year? its incomprehensible.
  2. when lee and ramirez are both healthy and hot, I would take that combo.
  3. I agree with you quakers. btw, aramis ramirez is good.
  4. don't worry, sheets will be hurt again soon.
  5. my problem with this is the young pitcher - I don't think the Cubs can afford to give up anymore young pitchers at this point. I would look to the free agent market. btw, why oh why can't we have jason bay? Pittsburgh doesn't need him . . .
  6. http://www.baseball-reference.com/games/standings.cgi?date=2003-09-03 yep
  7. I don't think the Cubs are cursed. pitchers get injured all the time on all teams.

  9. you lose! :D same as the regular season - 2 versus 3 in the first round - winner plays first place in the 2nd round. final is two weeks with lineup changes allowed between weeks.
  10. I think most people are ready to pencil izturis in because he will be starting at SS sure as the sun will rise whether we like it or not.
  11. I'd say its a very big week for me and just about nobody else. I have to win to stay alive whereas tim can lose as long as he wins next week.
  12. he'd fit right in - lots of walks and injuries.
  13. Lilly has never thrown 200 innings, and has only had 30 or more starts twice. He's a sub 100 ERA+ guy, who had an 80 last year. He might be worth taking a flyer on, but he's no better than half the prospects the Cubs could throw out there. but he can throw a punch apparently.
  14. Wakefield would be a nice pickup at the right price. generally solid, lots of innings. not sure what his injury status is though. How about Smoltz? Zito I think would do well moving to the NL. A staff with barry, marshall and hill might be redundant however and Zito may be very expensive. I don't really agree that pitching is the Cubs biggest hole, however. They need at least one MI that can get on base and some power in the oufield corners desperately. I would target Soriano first and look for a bargain amongst the pitchers - particularly given that underwhelming list.
  15. we could include dempster too.
  16. I would say neither should be fired.
  17. I don't think dusty's comments are anywhere near the level of campanis. I do think if dusty were white, he may well have been fired for the remarks. his remarks are silly but don't necessarily reveal a bias for or against one race. His treatment of certain players does suggest a bias, however. this would be pretty difficult to prove though and may just be random. comparing this to the death threats is absurd in my opinion. particularly when you consider that it hasn't been very long since black people were in fact publicly lynched. to dismiss these stories is pretty callous and reckless in my opinion. getting back to the article, the problem is that the author mixes two stories- one is racism and the other is the growing discontent of the fanbase. lumping them together implies that the discontent of the fanbase is causing racism amongst the fans. this leads to the conclusion that anyone that criticizes dusty is racist - clearly a ridiculous concept.
  18. seems like I've seen this debate before - I vote for No. 2.
  19. I'm sure this is a temporary glitch that will be resolved today. there were scores last night - you were losing 100010101010 - 10
  20. "the respect wasn't the same?" huh?
  21. During the season. There is no DL during the offseason. Correct? I'm not sure - the way that sounds the 25 man is irrelevant in the offseason and only the 40 man matters -which would also make the DL irrelevant. what difference would the 25 man make when there are no games?
  22. dusty's gone. if he were going to be re-signed I think they would do it now.
  23. you're absolutely right raw - the excuse that I've heard that is most plausible is that the sun wears the players out- also used by the rangers with regard to heat. I think the players don't like daygames because they want to go out at night.
  24. so DL players count against the 40 man but not the 25 man - that's how I read that anyway.
  25. yea, now how do I send it to him?
