  1. if he had power, he'd be a better hitter.
  2. Yes, but the deadline for doing that is December 20th, not today. Why? Because he's arb eligible, not a free agent. yea, I get it - but why is he arb eligible and not a free agent? Because he has fewer than six complete years of major league service time. really? That surprises me I guess. thanks.
  3. no he said infield. That was dibble though not hendry. dibble is not really bright.
  4. Yes, but the deadline for doing that is December 20th, not today. Why? Because he's arb eligible, not a free agent. yea, I get it - but why is he arb eligible and not a free agent?
  5. What do you expect him to say? "The first major acquisition for my team this year sucks. Juan Pierre is an unreformable piece of garbage." I'm just reporting.
  6. missed part of it: I think he said "Cubs are going to add another bench player (Mabry?)" Talking up Patterson (so why'd you get Pierre?). Dibble suggests playing corey in RF or IF. Hendry doesn't rule it out (this was a leading question so I don't put much stock in that). Haven't heard anything about RF. Not interested in closers. Jokes about market for relievers. Goes through farm a couple times a year but mostly relies on Fleita and Hughes.
  7. Dibble saying what a great OF he is. Hendry: "There is nothing about him that is a deficiency. He can help the younger guys. Five or six clubs were after Pierre."
  8. Yes, but the deadline for doing that is December 20th, not today. Why?
  9. I believe the Cubs have to offer arbitration to macias or lose him to free agency.
  10. no, today teams have to offer arbitration. if a team offers arbitration, the player has until 12/19 to accept. The team would then tender a contract offer and the player a counter-offer. If a team opts not to tender a contract offer, the player becomes a free agent. I believe that deadline is 12/20. If a player is not offered arbitration by today, he becomes a free agent (this we can hope for macias).
  11. Does it matter where burroughs doesn't hit from?
  12. Pie is high risk high reward. you'd be crazy to trade cabrera for him and other prospects.
  13. Wouldn't you want to bat a Lefty #2 to take advantage of Pierre being held on? Or maybe we should put Lee there since the pitcher will be so distracted.
  14. Way better than what to expect from Hairston? The same Hairston that had an OBP of 353 in 2003, 378 in 2004, and 361 in the first half of 2005? MPrior was taking into account the automatic drop in skills that comes every time a player signs with the Cubs. you mean like lee, ramirez, sosa, etc.? hell, even neifi got better.
  15. Do we want to match Marte for Lugo? OK, I get it: you do not want Lugo or Pierre. Of the one's realistically left, who do you want? I want Lugo, but Marte is a better prospect than Pie. It's not worth it for what we want him for. Forget Lugo, lets get Marte.
  16. Burnett to AL East - Jays for 5/55 http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2249623
  17. Dodgers hire Grady Little. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2250256
  18. Did I read that score right? I'm very surprised.
  19. Pierre isn't worth Guzman. There are plenty of other options. I would trade Guzman for Wilkerson or Bradley - shoulder injuries are a big problem (ask the Mariners). There is no reason to make a bad trade here.
  20. why would you want to start pierre over murton? Kearns over Murton? If the cubs got some impact OFers maybe.
  21. Whatever you tell him. I don't think he's arby eligible yet. But, I don't know.
  22. well the age difference is the key seldom - there is hope kearns will get better particularly in light of his minor league performances. burnitz is only going to get worse. Now, I don't want kearns unless he can play CF, but the comparison to burnitz is not really a valid one in my opinion. now kearns ks are a problem in that they hurt his batting average. I don't however think beane would base his evaluation on his ks so much as his obp and slp.
  23. optimistically a couple years. he has a long way to go before we can know if he will or won't make it.
