  1. can SD afford to offer him arbitration?
  2. I think they see his age and his numbers and think decline. He is also perhaps asking for too much. Though GM's are overpaying, perhaps they learned something about ageing outfielders.
  3. what in the world would make you worry that the cubs will sign giles?
  4. .350 .484 at Chavez looks pretty good to me, at least for CF. For RF he would be marginal.
  5. http://baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=4623 If you aren't a BP subscriber, join. Will seems to think the Cubs will end up with Bradley after he is non-tendered. The question is do you give the Dodgers something or take the risk that no on else wants to give them anything either? My bet is the Dodgers get desperate and take a token offer. Other interesting tidbit is that Will thinks Dusty has in essence approved having Bradley on the team.
  6. Yes, I'm a mod in a forum that never needs a mod!
  7. Do you think Mr. Miles will have anything to contribute to this thread?
  8. You'll just have to take my word for it. That's really Bruce. It was really Len Kasper, too. And Jim Callis. And, well, you get the picture. But how do we know you're really Tim? How do you know you are really you? I wear a nametag at all times We are really desperate for anything to happen now. We have gone down to the depths of not knowing who anyone really is. How do we know that everyone on this earth is not just multiple personalities of a single person and that everyone we see is just a figment of that person's imagination? SCARY really if you think about it... Like that movie about the guy's identity, and how he had different identities all stuck in a motel while a psychiatrist tried to figure out which identity was the real identity? I think it was called, The Motel That Was Open Late At Night In The Rain. Excellent simpsons steal with a slight modification. you're disingenuine, I like that!
  9. I'm sure that's all true but I still like a him better than a soft tossing lefty that doesn't strike anybody out.
  10. also, do you post under alternate names Tim?
  11. are in this league now? Tim, are you able to temporarily suspend members? This seems like a possible solution to the growing rancor and personal attacks. Some people just can't let things go.
  12. You'll just have to take my word for it. That's really Bruce. It was really Len Kasper, too. And Jim Callis. And, well, you get the picture. But how do we know you're really Tim? How do you know you are really you?
  13. clearly vance, the problem was with the statement that Jehrico was "making it up as he went along." This statement is definitely inflammatory, insulting, and contributes nothing to the topic. I enjoyed seeing the scouting report but could have done without the personal attack. Piggy's k rates are likely what excites people here more than the odds being stacked against him, but I'll speak only for myself on that topic.
  14. The later you go, the more starters you will see. Don't stay in Mesa. Stay in Tempe or Scottsdale. Go to Fitch Park and see the minor leaguers. Go to away games as well as games at HoHoKam. Sit on the berm - you can move around, hang out, relax in the sun.
  15. I'm saying market value can be overpaying. eg Beltran. As much as you may love a player, sometimes you have to walk away from paying market value.
  16. I like to think all Cub fans are part of a family. A bitter and cynical one, but family nonetheless. Are you implying I'm a Cardinals fan incognito? the Beijing Cardinals? If so, Tim should be censured for slandering you.
  17. If everyone is overpaying. Therefore no one is overpaying. Wow is this statement wrong. Overpaying is overpaying. I think we are seeing a new market plain and simple. Therefore it's not overpaying. If everyone were overpaying it may be but not all teams are overpaying as some may not get into the free agent market because of the high prices. If everyone is buying a Toyota Prius for 32K and the sticker price is 30K does that mean that everyone is overpaying or just the people that are buying the Prius? Everyone pays when the market moves up. Teams may sit on the sidelines for awhile but in the end they will have to sign somebody sometime. There was a time when 1m was a lot of money to give a player, now that's chump change. Folks, we are seeing a strong uptick in the market. Sooner or later you don't have to overpay - you can still identify value and sign value.
  18. If everyone is overpaying. Therefore no one is overpaying. Wow is this statement wrong. Overpaying is overpaying. I think we are seeing a new market plain and simple. Therefore it's not overpaying. That's different. I think you can only evaluate if someone is overpaying by evaluating opportunity cost. Does signing Eyre and Howry cost the Cubs the chance to sign a productive RF? Then maybe they are overpaying. Do the Cubs have in-house options that are cheaper and would allow them to sign a RF and SS if they went that route? etc etc
  19. =D> That's sort of boring isn't it? What's the point of posting on this site if you won't predict, analyze, evaluate and offer opinions? I've never understood this idea at all.
  20. Well, we know the bonuses based on performance are bogus so I give the rumor zero credibility. Oh, I see now these are "titles" - is that allowed? I wouldn't pick the Cubs to win anything with that middle infield. I thought Hendry liked guys who catch the ball? Maybe its guys that throw hard? The obp problem will still be there and the offense will again disappoint. Wood and Prior still have to be healthy. This better be false.
  21. If everyone is overpaying. Therefore no one is overpaying. Wow is this statement wrong. Overpaying is overpaying.
  22. Yes, he deals with them by running them out of town.
  23. He had a complete meltdown performance wise. 14 Appearances, 6.1 IP, 23 ER, 4 K, 30 BB at Boise That's not a typo. Maybe was changing his mechanics to avoid future injuries.
  24. good point cpatt - at least bradley has some passion and fire. a bit too much perhaps.
  25. I guess I thought he was ready based on what he did in 2005 and didn't really need that affirmation. Of course, Dusty will probably decide based on 50 spring training at-bats.
