  1. mabry shouldn't have been punished at all. if you think of it in terms of a players contribution soccer, it makes sense. while a pitcher only pitches every fifth day, that means missing two starts as bad as a position player missing 10 games (ie they each miss about 1/16 of their playing time).
  2. hopefully you two will have similar weeks next week making for another epic matchup!
  3. wow, a little bit of pop in that one!
  4. I believe the trend will be working in the right direction once again this week! did you catch me? The Lynx sort of coasted through the weekend. I only care about two weeks from now though with regard to outscoring NSBB. How'd our matchup in the other league turnout?
  5. Soul I agree with what you say, but its still a valid point that AJP could have and should have slid. Of course Barrett should be suspended and shouldn't have hit him. AJP's history though suggests he should have some culpability as well. And definitely Anderson should also be facing a long suspension - his actions were as bad as Barrett's IMO.
  6. What are they gonna do, set up a fight in the alley after today's game? AJ does nothing after getting clocked, but then he calls out Barrett? A.J. will probably just use Contreras' fastball to get payback. I doubt it since contreras would then be tossed from the game. not to mention he will be batting in wrigley in july.
  7. a light comes on! Wow, too bad its too late to change the roster. "I don't stress power to him," Baker said. "Certainly, we need power. I was thinking about it last night -- you need some home runs. Small ball is good, but you need some two- [and] three-run homers." The Cubs rank last in the National League in home runs with 27. The White Sox, on the other hand, have belted 59. "The thing I try to stress to 'Murt' right now is get hits and RBIs," Baker said of Murton. "That's what we need right now. I still think his power will come. I'm not worried about it, and I don't want him to worry. "In the past, we've had quite a bit of power, but not base hits and speed in between," Baker said. "Now, it seems like we don't have the power, and the speed hasn't been getting on base."
  8. yea. but the gap continues to close! well, on a weekly basis anyway!
  9. Won't contreras be on a pitch limit? Or does that violate Guillen's machismo code?
  10. End of your argument you mean? Barrett wasn't down blocking the plate - AJ could have touched the plate without sliding and still avoided Barrett. Or he could have slid in easily and safely. Legal or not, it was a dumb, unneccary and cheap play.
  11. yes, they could see this coming from the stellar minor league numbers, right? whatever, dude. you're just looking for some way to bash people that think hendry and dusty are doing a terrible job. this is stretching. hill sucked last year. he's 26 and hasn't done anything yet. a lot of older minor leaguers have put up good numbers and not amounted to anything. heck, they brought up someone who has barely pitched AAA, guzman, before hill. the incessant ripping of hendry and baker's reluctance was off-base & way overboard. not really troll, the point was that hendry refused to trade him but wouldn't give him a chance - pretty simple concept really. Of course, you presumably think all major leaguers come to the majors and dominate right away.
  12. why would you expect a baserunner to blast the catcher? They are far more likely to score safely by sliding not to mention far less likely to get hurt themselves. Blasting the catcher is a terrible play. This isn't football.
  13. he should have slid. that would have been the smarter play as well as the cleaner play. then he got up and went looking for barrett - if he was trying to avoid him, why did he lower his shoulder?
  14. Webb is the least surprising but top five is still pretty impressive. he hasn't let a ball out of the infield tonight. The Cubs need to be talking to the DBacks about Maddux.
  15. Pujols Thome Hafner Swisher Carlos Lee
  16. Mussina Capuano Webb Glavine Arroyo
  17. Will the Sox hit Barrett knowing they will have to bat in a few weeks at Wrigley?
  18. Barrett clearly says he was confused and that AJ didn't really instigate things. That being said, AJ is the type that would make sure to get close to Barrett.
  19. LOL, you sound like Jim Hendry, "hey, this guy isn't working out, you want him?"
  20. see cubs lineup sans lee and ramirez. no power. hit for average with low obp and no power. see Kent Oberkfell
  21. that's right! And I'll even be over .500 after this week (probably). Ironically, Larry the Lynx just brought me home . . .
  22. Well, we're moving to Davis, not Redding. I know there is train service from Davis to Portland. Remember when I travel, there will likely be a baby and wife with me . . . actually, the wife has a really good friend in Portland so we could likely stay there. July may be too soon though.
  23. oh, since there are other problems we shouldn't rip jones for his ridiculous baserunning? I don't get it. When a player does something that indicates he is completely not paying attention, he should be ripped for it. I don't understand why people shouldn't rip him just because there are other problems on the cubs.
  24. A problem with what? with a professional baseball player getting doubled off second three times in two weeks - that's what this thread is about, isn't it?
  25. no one is saying there are no other problems with the team! Do you seriously not have a problem with this?
